FBU Manila staff seems to be very poorly trained and either do not understand English well or suffer from very poor reading comprehension. My results in communicating with them have been pretty much useless. After a long wait my email answer from them has rarely been relevant to the questions asked. I have 3 outstanding issues with SSA, some have been ongoing for years. Manila staff cannot seem to understand what is written in the POMS manual for SSA. Now, I bypass Manila and send email directly to the Office of International Operations (OIO). They never respond. I follow that up with a call to the SSA 800# (800-772-1213) and the staff there tell me what's happening with my 561's. It seems that the emails to OIO may have some effect. Unfortunately, it seems that the standard IRS documentation (account transcript) that I sent with my 561 has bamboozled every SS staff that looks at it. It seems the communication between IRS and SSA is malfunctioning. Either I'm the unluckiest SS benefit recipient or the entire SSA is in a shambles.😢

I checked with the Info window worker and was told that there is no need to update/verify my TM30 unless I leave the country. The ladies in that office gave me incorrect advice. Today I also asked at the Info window if I could renew my extension based on retirement using the combined value of my pension and bank deposit. My income letter from my consulate shows about 61,500 ฿ per month and I have about 100K-200K+ on deposit for many months. An Immigration Officer that came to the Info window answered my question said yes, they would give me an extension with that combination.

Nice rant.... but short on logic. The trade deficit with Canada primarily arises because US buys a lot of natural resources from Canada and sells very little of that type of commodity to Canada. Please explain how "woke" policies enter into this type of trade.

Almost all safe driving habits come from common sense. Better infrastructure and enforcement aren't going to provide much improvement in the incorporation of common sense into Thai driving practices. Every day that I'm on the road, I'll see some driver do something really stupid. Their actions often will greatly increase their risk and the potential gain is negligible. Not all of these stupid choices increase the real danger but they certainly increase the stress that the other driver's experience. Additionally, these poor choices also cause some other drivers to always drive overly slowly and cautiously which will generally add travel time to all trips.

No... almost all regular savings accounts at Thai banks can be used to receive IDD deposits. Bangkok bank can be used for the old original EFT transfers as well as IDD. However to use that method you must open a special restricted account that only allows withdrawals in person.

My wife spent many years in US before I met her there. She understands well what ingredients Westerners don't like in Thai food so her Thai dishes are much more palatable to non-Thais. Her CM larb made with quality ground beef (in US) is to die for.

I guess it depends on which regional version of larb you're referring to. CM larb contains makwen spice and is very different from Issan larb. I don't know the real name for the makwen spice but it looks a lot like black peppercorns and I think is grown in mountainous areas. We first bought some dried wild makwen still on the branches while visiting a hill tribe many years ago.

The peer to peer (PTP) method eliminates the middleman and is a very efficient way to change currencies. What you outline is not a PTP transaction. My comment was that WISE doesn't use PTP for Thai currency transactions so I agree that WISE uses a third party to provide Thai ฿.

I agree with you about the loonies and their distrust of complicated things like physics and science... however I don't see the benefit of greatly exaggerating the importance of the moon landing. It's far, far from Humankind's greatest achievement. I would rate the development of agriculture or the advancement of medical knowledge as much more beneficial. There weren't such serious national security consequences if the "truth" about faked moon landings leaked.

In the case of transfers to Thailand, WISE cannot solely use the PTP method. WISE doesn't offer the ability to transfer from Thai ฿ to any other currency. Therefor they don't have a source for incoming Thai ฿. WISE may use PTP for exchanges to Thai ฿, but that will probably be only in the short term. I would think they have a float of Thai ฿ available that allows them to offer speedy exchanges/transfers. The balance in the Thai ฿ float would have to be replenished frequently by buying ฿ through a non PTP currency exchange method.

BofA may have different limits for different methods of doing transfers. I suspect the $3500 limit is for transfers using your BofA debit card. You can also fund a WISE transfer using ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfers. There is probably a higher limit on this type of transfer. The cheapest way to get the funds into WISE for a transfer is to do an ACH "push" from your BofA account to your WISE account and then use those funds to transfer to Thailand. WISE has fees for all other funding methods but a "push" transfer from your US bank incurs no WISE fee. I think BofA also has no fee for that type of transfer.
