Silicon Valley Bank collapses after failing to raise capital
ExpatOilWorker replied to Scott's topic in World News
CPI came in at the low end, so the stage is set for a pass on interest rates when the Fed meets next week. Let's see what the ECB will do in a few hours. Flat or at most 0.25%. -

The only beef I have with this is net present value. A 2023 dollar is worth more than a 2033 dollar. When the treasures department issue bills or notes and the Fed ends up holding them, it is starting to look like QE again. I don't recall the Fed reached out to me when I took a hit on my bonds in 2022, but hey banks are special snowflakes ????. -

It is not all good news: Russia’s relentless assault on Bakhmut is sacrificing waves and waves of unprepared men being sent to their deaths. But multiple defenders of this embattled city in Donetsk Oblast feel that they are in a similar boat, according to interviews with more than a dozen soldiers currently fighting in or around Bakhmut. During their brief visits to the nearby town of Kostiantynivka, Ukrainian infantrymen told the Kyiv Independent of unprepared, poorly-trained battalions being thrown into the front line meat grinder to survive as best they could with little support from armored vehicles, mortars, artillery, drones and tactical information. “We don’t get any support,” says a soldier named Serhiy, who has been fighting on the front lines in Bakhmut, sitting down with his friend, also named Serhiy, for a conversation in a small cafe in the Kostiantynivka market. Both men are in their 40s but one of them is a bit older than the other. https://kyivindependent.com/national/ukrainian-soldiers-in-bakhmut-our-troops-are-not-being-protected

They can just stick a containerized generator on the first wagon after the locomotive and save the batter swap.

An incompatible security update sound like a very plausible reason. After working fine for years, the fault just appeared one day, probably when some IT jockey implemented the security update. No fault of CAT for being late. The location is at a summerhouse and we have been away. I wanted to be present, to ensure the sensor problem was fixed. The CAT guy was actually a CAT/TOT service representative, since the two companies are merging there Internet services. Thanks for all the suggestions and hopefully we all learned something from the process.

CAT showed up, tested the wifi and installed a new ZTE router. Funny enough it has a separate little receiver box for the fiber optic cable. According to the CAT guy previous Huawei router was old and to protect itself from viruses it block certain sites, hence why it was blocking my temperature signal and some site when using iPhone. I have never heard of such a feature, but the CAT guy seemed competent enough and it is working fine now, so maybe?

The Baht Thread

Good info. Can you explain why they compare the export value in nominal $ to the GDP in PPP $? Seems like an apple to Orange kind of comparison. In macroeconomic terms, Thailand’s total exported goods represent 20% of its overall Gross Domestic Product for 2021 ($1.331 trillion valued in Purchasing Power Parity US dollars). That 20% for exports to overall GDP per PPP in 2021 compares to 18.2% for 2020. -
The floating movie add is the most annoying, making the site pretty much unusable.

I deliberately wanted to keep the GBP out of the discussion, as central banks still hold pounds in their currency mix. The debate is whether USD is involved in a tourist transaction between two banana republic currencies. I think yes, even with a Yuan transaction, you seem to think otherwise. Paul Krugman has a short dollar write up, that kind of support my side of the argument. The same article is available for free in a local Thai newspaper with the capitals name in it. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/03/opinion/us-dollar-reserve-currency.html -

In many ways historically Russia is a great nation, not only in size bit also cultural, literature, science, sports engineering and chess. If you could hit the reset botton in 1917 and insert a western style government, we would all play second fiddle to Russia today. With the current leadership everything in Russia ???????? is sh!t, except of course..... p!ss!
