  1. Even if L and N is wrongly connected that shouldn't happen. Any metal which you can touch should be connected to earth.
  2. Why is it a serious safety hazard? One shouldn't touch L or N. In some 1st worlds countries, the plugs don't even have a difference between N and L. Earth should obviously be used, and it shouldn't be confused with N - which unfortunately is another "Thai" issue, much more serious.
  3. Maybe I am just getting too old for this. I still remember Thailand in the late 1990th when opening times were more relaxed. Nightlife started late. Then, when opening times were set to 2am or 1am lot of visitors complained. At the same time the whole operation just started earlier. Personally, I like that. Now I can go out at 7pm or 8pm and the dancers are already on stage. Because they will stop their official work at 2am. If they would have to work until 3am or 4am what would happen? They would start later. Then nightlife would only really begin at maybe 9pm. I have to admit I prefer when it starts earlier and ends earlier (like now). Full entertainment from 7pm until 4am is difficult with one shift - especially for smaller entertainment venues.
  4. A little consistency would be nice. I think I read a couple of times they want high-class tourists. Do they get more of those high-class tourists by allowing certain drugs and opening the bars until 4am? IMHO lots of people in bars are drunk before 2am. After that they just get more drunk. Obviously, some people want that. And looking at some creatures at 6:30am, when I sometimes ride to the fresh market, they also succeed now to drink more and more and more. In general, I don't think that is good for Thailand.
  5. I have to admit I had to google that word. This is what I found. No, I never applauded that idiot.
  6. NANA, Cowboy, Walking Street, Soi 6, ... I have to think about #5 ????
  7. Obviously from time to time the police have to show that they do something. And normally they inform all the paying places when the raids happen.
  8. Let's make a simple calculation. Let's say the taxi-no-meter guys charge 350THB per trip which is about 10 USD. 1 million / 10 = 100,000 taxi trips. I don't know how many taxis are in Phuket, let's just say 1000. Then that's 100 trips per taxi. I don't think any of them has less than 3 trips per day. So there you have your million USD in one month. And that's just the taxis. Then there are the jet-ski guys and the rental guys and and and. A million here and a million there, it adds up.
  9. You must be joking. They are organized crime. And most people use the word mafia to describe that. Let's look at the Phuket situation. Do you really think a couple of taxi drivers in front of one hotel are just a couple of friends working together? And how about the next hotel and in front of this and that bar and this soi and that soi? Groups of friends and groups of friends and more groups of friends? Are those groups of friends all independent from each other? Do they have their territories and boundaries? Do they have rules? Do they make sure outsiders know those rules and the consequences if they don't respect the people who make those rules? And how about the police and the local politicians? Do they have nothing to do with those groups of friends? What a hilarious idea. Anybody who likes to get an idea how this works should read this book. It was published a long time ago and it describes pretty much in detail what is going on. I bought it in a Thai bookshop, I guess they still sell it.
  10. Windows 7 is not updated anymore. It doesn't matter which anti-virus program you use. It won't be able to protect you as much as a newer system. End of Support for Previous Versions of Windows | Microsoft
  11. I think the biggest factor is the location. If you want a taxi outside of a hotel or Soi Cowboy chances are low that anybody wants to use the meter. Walk 200m away from those places and chances are much better.
  12. I guess that is easier than writing a letter to all the other places: It's time to pay, or else.
  13. I think it's nice of them to have that warning out there. It's like military compounds with warning that if you enter without permission you get shot. Same same, not much different. And obviously they get away with that because all the authorities are part of the food chain - since decades.
  14. Obviously it is sad that this happens. But IMHO it would be a lot worse if it wouldn't happen. Imagine Trump getting elected again (or maybe not even legally elected) and he knows he can do anything and nothing will happen. That is scary, very scary.
  15. Lots of fools do that all over the world. The big difference is that in most of the rest of the world people don't vote for the fools to become the leader of their country.
  16. I just described what is happening all the time. Obviously it's a good idea to follow all the laws all the time. But then, TiT.
  17. Legally that is correct. But in real life that can be very different. It depends a lot on the connection of the accountant, etc. And situations and "qualifications" like that can't be easily compared and advertised.
  18. If you followed the news over the last couple of years you would know that he committed several crimes without any doubt. Why he was not charged or convicted is a problem with politics and the justice system over there. To have just one obvious example: Obstruction of justice. https://www.lawfareblog.com/obstruction-justice-mueller-report-heat-map
  19. How many girls did you meet who were born in Pattaya?
