  1. With this one and the otherJapanese guy ramming cars in Pattaya in another thread running here, it doesn't seem like the Japanese guys are having much luck with Thai girls...or vise versa.
  2. I applied to renew my UK passport at VFS two weeks ago. A bank statement in English, showing my address was sufficient. I took along copy of blue book, but it was returned to me as not needed. No C of R was required. They told me it would take about four weeks, but surprisingly I received the email that it was ready to collect only ten days after application. I can't comment on a TIN.
  3. Many governments want to introduce these Digital Currency Schemes. That way they can see what you spend, and control what you spend it on. Be a naughty boy or girl? No buying bus, train or flight tickets for you. Only allowed to buy food in your local supermarket. Obese or ill health? No buying chocolate or cigarettes. You can only buy what we the government consider healthy food. But this one? I would describe it as Yingluckesque.
  4. NIST is lower Sukhumvit. But not within the limits you mention. https://www.nist.ac.th
  5. If true, what a come down. Leading Russian mobster to renting out motorbikes to hippie backpackers. Still, better than being sent to war. Have to admire his front on offering the cops 1 million baht though. I don't think I could do it.
  6. No one gets through life without possessions. One man's junk is another man's treasure. I presume you own a computer and a mobile phone. Others might think they are a waste of time and useless. Not everyone dies the same either. Some go quickly. Others a long lingering, painful death. I know which I would prefer given the choice. Others are never even here long enough to accumulate what you call junk.
  7. And more waste disposal, sewage disposal/treatment 55, power generation, traffic management and massage parlours to cope with the influx.
  8. They don’t need to lengthen operating hours. Just restore all the flights they have cut back. Bangkok Air website showing no flights some days next week from morning until evening. 9am until 7pm.
  9. Not seen one of those finger pointing pics for a while. Good to see they are still a part of Thai Police procedure. 😀
  10. You have to be careful buying tyres online. I bought a couple of tyres on Lazada. They cracked and lumps fell off when the mechanic tried to fit them. He said they were three or four years old. Could tell by the code on the tyre wall.
  11. Doesn't show much confidence in flying the National Airline.
  12. 15.3 billion? Will that include engines? Now we know why they want to tax us all on worldwide income.
  13. Am I misunderstanding that all income outside of Dual Tax Agreements brought into Thailand in 2024 will not be taxed, but from 2025 all income outside DTA's, including savings will be taxed? Wondering how someone can prove tax has been paid on savings built up over years.
  14. So much poverty here that people can't afford to have more children.
  15. Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok. I am going to mess about with my sight, I will go to an eye hospital. Just my opinion.
  16. And imagine if the exchange rate gets worse. You won't even get 8500.
  17. I think I watched the same interview. He didn't seem to imply any illegality either. It might make it worthwhile to pay (if possible) any large bills by foreign credit card. I already enquired about paying GF's daughters school fees, but not possible as school not set up to take credit cards. Therein lies one common problem here.
  18. You could maybe book a taxi tour through your hotel / resort. Maybe even specify a woman driver. Though I'm not sure how expensive it would be nowadays. Another way to get out and see things is a bicycle tour, where you would be with others, led by a tour guide. Obviously that requires a certain level of fitness. I've not been there for years, but the large botanical gardens were interesting, including the indoor topical part.. There was a zoo (not the Tiger Zoo), hot springs, temples, including one with a very long climb down and up a staircase. Others might know the names of these. Also an elephant sanctuary.
  19. "Phet and his family refused to be held accountable.".. Just about says it all.
  20. Apparently another power outage in Bangrak tomorrow morning (Saturday) 8-10 am.
  21. Yes. My GF told me Bangrak also has one, but not sure of the time it will start, or duration. It sounds like one of those rolling power cuts, where they turn off each area as they proceed along doing maintenance.
  22. i holidayed in Gibralter many years ago, and I imagine it is much more built up now. I think it might prove claustrophobic for any long term stay, but each to his own.
  23. And yet another one tonight. A little bit of rain a couple of hours ago and BANG!! nearby. Have slow fans and dim lights so likely another phase down...again.
  24. I always used to carry a laminated photocopy, but since it was stated in the news a while back that it was no longer necessary, I no longer bother. I do however always carry my Thai driving licence.
