  1. Doesn't show much confidence in flying the National Airline.
  2. 15.3 billion? Will that include engines? Now we know why they want to tax us all on worldwide income.
  3. Am I misunderstanding that all income outside of Dual Tax Agreements brought into Thailand in 2024 will not be taxed, but from 2025 all income outside DTA's, including savings will be taxed? Wondering how someone can prove tax has been paid on savings built up over years.
  4. So much poverty here that people can't afford to have more children.
  5. Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok. I am going to mess about with my sight, I will go to an eye hospital. Just my opinion.
  6. And imagine if the exchange rate gets worse. You won't even get 8500.
  7. I think I watched the same interview. He didn't seem to imply any illegality either. It might make it worthwhile to pay (if possible) any large bills by foreign credit card. I already enquired about paying GF's daughters school fees, but not possible as school not set up to take credit cards. Therein lies one common problem here.
  8. You could maybe book a taxi tour through your hotel / resort. Maybe even specify a woman driver. Though I'm not sure how expensive it would be nowadays. Another way to get out and see things is a bicycle tour, where you would be with others, led by a tour guide. Obviously that requires a certain level of fitness. I've not been there for years, but the large botanical gardens were interesting, including the indoor topical part.. There was a zoo (not the Tiger Zoo), hot springs, temples, including one with a very long climb down and up a staircase. Others might know the names of these. Also an elephant sanctuary.
  9. "Phet and his family refused to be held accountable.".. Just about says it all.
  10. Apparently another power outage in Bangrak tomorrow morning (Saturday) 8-10 am.
  11. Yes. My GF told me Bangrak also has one, but not sure of the time it will start, or duration. It sounds like one of those rolling power cuts, where they turn off each area as they proceed along doing maintenance.
  12. i holidayed in Gibralter many years ago, and I imagine it is much more built up now. I think it might prove claustrophobic for any long term stay, but each to his own.
  13. And yet another one tonight. A little bit of rain a couple of hours ago and BANG!! nearby. Have slow fans and dim lights so likely another phase down...again.
  14. I always used to carry a laminated photocopy, but since it was stated in the news a while back that it was no longer necessary, I no longer bother. I do however always carry my Thai driving licence.
  15. If I send early UK time, my Wise transfers are usually same day. I just did one at 19:50 Thai time, which is 13:50 UK and they said it will arrive 10am tomorrow. As for asking for proof of identity, these KYC rules are getting more and more intrusive and frequent.
  16. Heinz Beans THB 129 0n Lazada. Or in the supermarket, a good substitute is Watties Beans from New Zealand.
  17. i used to go to the Snapper, New Zealand owned, in a bar in a small subsoi off Nana Soi 8, I think it was. They have now moved over Sathorn way somewhere now. EDIT: Changed it's name to Kai now: https://www.kai-bangkok.com
  18. Is that in Isaan dialect? I thought it was Hok in Thai.
  19. Double glazing stops most of it. It's not really that bad.
  20. Sook? What number is that? 😀
  21. My "go bag" is called a suitcase, and I will cram it with as much of what I consider important as I can if I ever need to get out fast. Luckily, the airport terminal is literally five minutes from me.
  22. I had to go in to my bank last week to prove identity to do bank transfers. while sitting there, I noticed on the screen the teller pulled up, several fields for US Bank Account No., Foreign Bank Account No.1 , Foreign Bank Account No.2, and Tax ID No. So it looks like the government are getting ready to grab as much info on us as they can. Maybe at the instigation of the Tax Dept.
  23. I used to pay THB 500 for two. They always came in twos for some reason. Then about two years ago I was refused at immigration. When asked why, I was told, "Boss say not do anymore." I tried the local DMV and Tessaban without success, telling them that Immigration had refused to give me one, and that I need one to change name on motorbike. Went back to Immigration a few weeks ago to get one to renew my driving licence. I actually wanted three, but was told, "No. Only two per application." This time I was given two for free. No fee charged for the first time ever.
  24. I wouldn't mind a George Daniels watch myself. Would make for a nice pension.
