  1. If you have told Barclays that you no longer live in the UK, or that you no longer have a UK address, that is where your problem started. if you have family or a trusted friend that will allow you to use their address, you may be able to open a new account with another bank. Although it depends on what proof of address documents they ask for. Another alternative might be (if you do have a UK address that you can use), is to just go into your local bank branch and change your current registered address to that one. Take ID and they might not ask for proof of address that way. Just a suggestion.
  2. There was a KPMG article on this, but I cannot find it. Here is another: https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/thailand/individual/taxes-on-personal-income
  3. I remember a demonstration at college of how dangerous petrol vapour could be, where they had a long box about 6 feet long x 6 inches high and 6 inches wide. At one end there was a small candle burning. The instructor put a teaspoonful of petrol in the opposite end and told us to wait a little while. All of a sudden there was a whoosh and the flame shot along and up out of the box. The vapour is virtually invisible and creeps along the floor.
  4. Any money earned outside Thailand will be subject to tax if brought into Thailand in the same tax year as earned. So if you could afford to keep it outside Thailand until the next tax year, it would not be subject to tax.
  5. Which part? This part? How do you open a bank account as a non-resident tourist? Or this part? Or do I need to apply to some sort of a special visa in order to do so? I told the OP he can open a bank account. He doesn't have to be resident. If he can fit some of the requirements I stated, he can open a bank account and then leave the country.
  6. It is possible to open a resident bank account while being non resident. I had a friend do it recently based on a retirement visa. Of course, you will have to be here physically to do it, and meet the requirements for said visa. including being over 50 y.o. I would be more worried about taking the money out of the country again. As others have said, better investments elsewhere. Worth noting Thai banks deposit protection levels too.
  7. And once all the tourists, speedboats and long tailed boats come, how long do you think you will be able to spot Dugongs and Turtles? Be careful what you wish for Mr Tourist Council President. Look at what happened to Maya Bay.
  8. They should get a load of propeller driven planes to fly from north to south and blow it out to sea. ????
  9. Them refusing to do it for you must be a local thing. As I said earlier, they sent a technician to my house who did all the set up for me. In fact when I call them a few weeks ago with a problem, the tech actually said to me, "You have your router set to bridge mode." When I originally tried to do it myself, I couldn't because I didn't have the necessary login details. That's why I called them, and why they sent a tech to do it for me. Next time you call a tech out for a problem, it might be worth asking if he could do it for you 'privately' as it were.
  10. That doesn't make sense. 1. If he missed the accelerator, the car wouldn't go anywhere. 2. it would have to be in reverse. 3. The handbrake would have to be off. Still. This is Thailand.
  11. Maybe trying to avoid paying double to visit National Parks. ????
  12. Don't know how true, but I was told those guys that wear the elongated helmet with the red strip around it are military police and not to be messed with.
  13. That reminds me of a joke: Nervous new prisoner in cell. In walks new cellmate, big evil looking guy. Say to nervous guy," Let's play Mummies and Daddies. Which one do you want to be? Mummy or Daddy? Nervous guy thinks quickly and says, "I'll be the Daddy." So big guy says, "Good! Now come here and suck Mummy's ****."
  14. I have a feeling we will this guy again in the news sometime in the future. And it won't be for anything good. He's already made it at 22.
  15. I think that what you say is correct. They are a fashion fad. When I was growing up in London, tattoos were much less common. Gradually they became more popular on men, then women. Nowadays they are everywhere. Almost a rite of passage with the young backpacker crowd. I think eventually things will go the other way, and being tat free will be the cool thing for a while.
  16. Looks like the sicko has bitten off more than he could chew with this one. She is going to prosecute to the full extent of the law. And so she should.
  17. Minibus driver tip: Wear ear plugs when sleeping to avoid getting startled by screaming passengers.
  18. Seems like Bats are now off the menu. Monkeys are the latest fad.
  19. She might not have felt the effects after the accident, but I bet she felt them the next morning.
  20. I bet you were thinking hole sore and not hole saw.
  21. Thai health officials worried about growing number of fat kids. Why do you think motorcycle manufacturers are increasing the cc's of their smaller bikes and scooters? ????
  22. best locations in Thailand to spot wild elephants and if you’re lucky you might see a Malayan Sun Bear, leopards, tigers and porcupines. One would hope the tent area is fenced in. Not sure I would like to be sleeping in a tent if an elephant, leopard or tiger might pass by in the night. However unlikely. Imagine getting up in the night to go for a pee and seeing one of them in the dark.
