Thaksin Reserved, Patient Over Move Forward/Pheu Thai Tussles
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Looks like they were out handbag shopping. -
Wasn't there a case where an old couple were given a really long sentence for picking mushrooms? Also another where a mother was found with about a tenth of a gramme of coke in her bag and given around 20 years. Are there any guidelines for sentencing here? Seems to be up how to the judge is feeling on the day, or how rich or well connected you are.

The problem you might have is that credit card companies are not allowed to hold clients funds. ( That's how it was explained to me). I had some credit on my credit card as had overpaid in anticipation of some big bills arriving. The card company contacted me several times asking me for bank details so they could repay me the money.

You can buy soda water makers on Amazon. The most famous being Soda Stream. Usually comes with plastic bottles and small charging gas cylinders. They have Soda Stream on Lazada, but the price seems expensive. Getting replacement gas cylinders might be the difficult part. Not sure if allowed to post by air.

Pay attention when police stops you
phetphet replied to FriendlyFarang's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Perhaps they have printed fake "official looking" receipts, or have an accomplice in the office that sends out the fines. Or as you suggested, quota filling. Certainly seems suspicious. -
Last few days, blue flags have appeared everywhere along the roadside with what looks like the Thai letters Jor Jaan and Gor Gai จก on them. The roads have been coned down the middle and no parking in Chaweng from lake road junction towards airport / Choengmon junction. Last night the police were all along the road in Bangrak until almost 4am. and out this morning when I took the little one to school. Anyone know what's gong on? Something to do with the recent election?

Thai Immigration Bureau Intensifies Crackdown on Overstaying Foreigners
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not so much a crackdown. Just a lot more visitors post Covid, so inevitably more overstayers to catch. -
If filling in on your computer, just make sure that you have the latest version for your particular immigration office. Just as each office has their own requirements, I don't think it is a nationwide standard form, but I might be wrong. Our local one makes slight changes every so often, then refuses to accept the previous form.

Almost £42 for a quiche lorraine!
phetphet replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
Why? What difference would that have made? £42 for a quiche is very expensive. Imported or not. -

This is Thailand, where when sales drop they increase the price to cover any shortfall. I doubt they would give any discount for buying a whole one. -
Bangkok Bank London Branch
phetphet replied to somo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I actually went into the London branch in St Mary's Axe a few years ago and asked about sending money through them to my BKK Bank account here in Thailand. If I recall correctly, they wanted to see the original passbook before even considering it. Which of course I didn't have with me. Much easier using Wise. -
Almost £42 for a quiche lorraine!
phetphet replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
I don't think they were imported. Probably cooked in their own kitchens. Below is a pic. Funny thing is both he quiche lorraine and the salmon and leek were the same price. I would have thought the salmon would be more expensive. -
Was browsing around Tops today. In a chilled cabinet, I saw they had several quiche cut into 6 pieces at THB 290 / slice. That's THB1,740 for a whole one, which equates to almost £42!! I know prices have increased, but £42 for what is basically an egg and bacon pie! Am I out of touch to be shocked at such a price?

Immigration. No more Residence Certificates.
phetphet replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
I didn’t bother, as it was just for changing name on my old scooter to my girlfriend’s name. But when I was at Maenam for my 90 day report last month, I saw someone pick up a residence certificate. So maybe they have started again. Alternatively. You might want to try that other office in Choengmon. They can only say no. Going from Choengmon up the hill to the post office, it’s up the soi on the right literally before the 7-11
