  1. The taxis in Samui refuse to use the meter, so they already charge what they want.
  2. Thanks for that. I did not realise that he could apply for a non O retirement with a visa exempt entry. I know of a reliable agent who might be able to do the bank account. Biggest problem at the moment is trying to find him suitable accommodation. It's high season here in Samui and most residential is taken.
  3. Thanks Joe. Update: He arrived just before Christmas on a visa exempt I presume, which per your advice he can extend. He says he didn't pay any money, but maybe the travel agent took care of that. A few more questions. Where in your opinion is currently the best / easiest place to go to apply for a Single Entry visa with a view to change to a Non O based on retirement? Is that still the best way o do it? I recall when I did mine about seven or eight years ago that I had difficulties in Penang and ended up going to Vientiane. I will have to accompany him as his eyesight is bad. Regarding money in the bank or monthly payment methods. He does not have a pension, so can do the THB 800,000 method. But can he do the THB65,000/ month method from savings and not from a pension? TIA
  4. It's a good idea to try and get tourists to come outside the usual busy months, but how are they going to sell November? Isn't that the worst month for wet weather? Maybe to the Arabs. Come see and feel the rain.
  5. I think the problem opening a new bank account in the UK, even using someone else's address will be the requirement to show a council tax or utility bill with your name on it. They might possibly accept a UK driving licence if it showed the same address. But they might require two forms of proof of address. Those are the problems I encountered when I tried to open a Metro Bank account a few years ago. I already have a UK bank account registered at a UK address, but even they recently contacted me to ask if I was still UK tax domicile.
  6. Plenty of electric scooters and motorbikes available now. I also noticed a Chinese electric car stand in Centralworld. Ground Floor, at the back. Near the exit to the shrine on the Plaza. Name Ora Cat I think. A small electric car.
  7. Isn't it amazing how many posters on this site foretold this?
  8. I saw something the other day that said hid admission of taking cocaine could in theory affect his US visa. I doubt it because of who he is, but you never know.
  9. What I find funny are the names all these newly opened shops are coming up with. Many, I suspect are backed by foreigners. Some are even proposing delivery. Won't be long before we have weedpanda.com
  10. Why only now? Are other tourists not deserving of clean ferries?
  11. If the bike is not taxed for three years, the Green Book and registration become invalid. Then you have to start the whole process over again, applying for new green book and new number plates. I only found this out last week because a friend returned for the first time since pre-Covid and his bike has just been sitting there unused in his absence
  12. Now they just need to build a robot one that can also cook, wash the dishes, and clean the house. ????
  13. Wouldn't it be ironic if one or all those welcoming Ministers caught Covid from those arriving tourists?
  14. So just enough time to get everyone in for Chinese New Year then.
  15. Just started watching the first of three series of Big Sky. Enjoying it so far. Storyteller David E. Kelly ("Big Little Lies") presents a series about private detectives Cassie Dewell and Cody Hoyt, who join forces with Cody's estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. When they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken. Based on the series of books by C.J. Box, the series stars Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury and Ryan Phillippe.
  16. So the Health Minister can take time out of his busy schedule to welcome some Chinese tourists. I hope he wears a face mask.
  17. Of course the murderer will say that the victim started it, and it was the victim's fault. Are there any witnesses to the supposed original confrontation to confirm what he says? Even if what he says is true, that the old guy sounded his horn and banged on his car. Does that justify taking his life? I suspect he is lying through his teeth to get himself out of the predicament he is now in. Probably sh**ing himself that he might spend a long time in the monkey house.
