Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Bandersnatch replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If you are worried about rats or mice getting to your electrics I recommend these ฿98 traps from Thaiwasadu My house sits on 3 Rai of land and we recently added galvanized netting to our fence around the land to keep our dogs from getting out. Unfortunately it also kept the snakes out that had been controlling the mice. -

Just taken a test drive in M6 Extended the car starts when you open the door (can be disabled) ฿829,000 Dynamic has 55.4kWh 420km and the ฿929,000 Extended has 71.8kWh 530km both come with V2L Compared to my Seal AWD the car was definitely more wafty/floaty. Good points Great visibility Respectable acceleration So much room But Definitely more wind noise than my Seal, but it is half the price. Seats felt a bit firm and not as comfortable as the Seal. The Sealion is definitely a better looking car, but for me why would I pay more for a PHEV -

I am currently at BYD Buriram and they have the Sealion PHEV which is getting a good deal of attention. It looks good in the flesh but I'm not interested in a PHEV They also have a car I haven't seen before, called the M6. It looks a bit like an upgrade of the e6 which they started selling as a taxi a few years ago ฿800k for a six seater full EV is a great price. -

BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Bandersnatch replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Currently at BYD Buriram for my free annual service. They asked if we wanted the tyres rotated. They charge ฿300 for balancing. We asked if they had official BYD touch up paint, but they said no but we could buy online. The ones I previously purchased from shopee and Lazada didn't match the colour of the car. -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Bandersnatch replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
There has been some chat on the forums that BYD wants customers to do their free services in a timely manner as not doing so could void their warranty. Our BYD Seal service is due today, a Sunday so my wife phoned them and asked if they were open on a Sunday and if not was there an issue if the service was late. This is what they said: No problem if the service is done within a month of the due date and not more than 1,000km over the due service km interval. -
external meter with Deye instead of CT

I am quite happy with my Zemismart sensor, it seems pretty accurate as far as I can tell, but I don't have a PEA meter to compare it with. I have started a discussion about smart home kit: -

My EV only has a 600km range so there's no way I will be able to make it to the next charging station on Koh Samui -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Bandersnatch replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
One of the problems for me being off-grid and having 2 EVs is that I don't want to waste (curtail) my solar production, so I like to have one of my EVs or my electric motorbike charging once the house batteries are fully charged . However, what can happen is that it can cloud over and I end up discharging my house batteries into my EV. This product from solar edge is a DC powered DC EV charger for the home. It is capable of sending upto 12kW DC into an EV directly from solar or in combination with an attached battery. I could see me adding 10kW of dedicated PV to the EV charger and adding a 10kWh battery. I could leave my Seal plugged in without worrying about running down my house batteries. As the sun hits the panels they will start to charge the car. When the car is full of not plugged in the dedicated PV could charge the attached battery. The EV charger is also bi-directional but the video wasn't clear how that part would work without an extra inverter. -
7 Types of Used Cars to Avoid in Thailand

Is English your first language? Your reference to "No Brainer" were you referring to Chinese EVs not having a brain or was it a self-introduction? If it was the later it's nothing to shout about (All caps is considered shouting) Making sweeping statements about cars that you have never owned doesn't seem like a very brainy thing to do. -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

The manual says to fully charge it from <10% I wasn't sure if that had to be in one session or could be split over a few days. Hence my post with a question asking what others were doing. I haven't used fast charging since the first week of ownership and then only a few kWh for test purposes. I explained in detail what I actually did in my reply to UWEB above. -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

That's what I ended up doing - more or less. Because I powered the house from the Seal last night, my home solar batteries were pretty full this morning and I used them and a bit of solar to charge the car up initially, we don't have PEA. As the sun came up I was using less and from the home batteries until Solar was able to charge both the EV and the house batteries. We left the Seal charging and used our other EV to run some errands during the day. We should finish charging the Seal back to 100% tomorrow. -

BYD Battery optimization https://bydautomotive.com.au/brochures/BYD-SEAL-Owners-Handbook-2023.pdf Charging to 100% at least once a week is no problem for me having solar, but getting to less than 10% takes a bit more planning. I had a long trip yesterday and then used the car to power the house over night. For good measure we took the seal out in the morning for an Amazon Coffee. I plan to fast charge it to 80% this morning then do the final 20% on AC at home What do other people do? If I charged it all at home I couldn’t do it all from solar in one day -
I just checked and got the “enter the code displayed on your device” as it didn’t recognise Chrome on my iPad which how I always log on to Github. Normally I get a code sent to my email account but not this time.

Many people think they are a myth but I can now confirm that they are in fact real. I have evidence of a Toyota bZ4x in the wild. Over 2 years after it was first launched in Thailand I have seen my first one. -

Virayah have an office near me so popped in today and was quoted ฿30,000 We hear "EV insurance is so expensive" from the EV haters. I don't think 30k is expensive for sports car performance, but maybe it's expensive compared to insuring a 10yr old Vios -

Insurance renewal time for my BYD Seal Performance. BKK insurance offered 20% NCD and a renewal of ฿38k while mentioning that all drivers need to be named. As my wife is under 30 my premium may increase. My sales girl from BYD offered some other company quotes Anyone have any other company quotes? -
