BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

My EV only has a 600km range so there's no way I will be able to make it to the next charging station on Koh Samui -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Bandersnatch replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
One of the problems for me being off-grid and having 2 EVs is that I don't want to waste (curtail) my solar production, so I like to have one of my EVs or my electric motorbike charging once the house batteries are fully charged . However, what can happen is that it can cloud over and I end up discharging my house batteries into my EV. This product from solar edge is a DC powered DC EV charger for the home. It is capable of sending upto 12kW DC into an EV directly from solar or in combination with an attached battery. I could see me adding 10kW of dedicated PV to the EV charger and adding a 10kWh battery. I could leave my Seal plugged in without worrying about running down my house batteries. As the sun hits the panels they will start to charge the car. When the car is full of not plugged in the dedicated PV could charge the attached battery. The EV charger is also bi-directional but the video wasn't clear how that part would work without an extra inverter. -

Is English your first language? Your reference to "No Brainer" were you referring to Chinese EVs not having a brain or was it a self-introduction? If it was the later it's nothing to shout about (All caps is considered shouting) Making sweeping statements about cars that you have never owned doesn't seem like a very brainy thing to do. -

The manual says to fully charge it from <10% I wasn't sure if that had to be in one session or could be split over a few days. Hence my post with a question asking what others were doing. I haven't used fast charging since the first week of ownership and then only a few kWh for test purposes. I explained in detail what I actually did in my reply to UWEB above. -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

That's what I ended up doing - more or less. Because I powered the house from the Seal last night, my home solar batteries were pretty full this morning and I used them and a bit of solar to charge the car up initially, we don't have PEA. As the sun came up I was using less and from the home batteries until Solar was able to charge both the EV and the house batteries. We left the Seal charging and used our other EV to run some errands during the day. We should finish charging the Seal back to 100% tomorrow. -

BYD Battery optimization https://bydautomotive.com.au/brochures/BYD-SEAL-Owners-Handbook-2023.pdf Charging to 100% at least once a week is no problem for me having solar, but getting to less than 10% takes a bit more planning. I had a long trip yesterday and then used the car to power the house over night. For good measure we took the seal out in the morning for an Amazon Coffee. I plan to fast charge it to 80% this morning then do the final 20% on AC at home What do other people do? If I charged it all at home I couldn’t do it all from solar in one day -
I just checked and got the “enter the code displayed on your device” as it didn’t recognise Chrome on my iPad which how I always log on to Github. Normally I get a code sent to my email account but not this time.

Another good video on FUD Busting. I really don’t understand why people think it’s ok to just make stuff up. Don’t believe everything you see online folks!

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Many people think they are a myth but I can now confirm that they are in fact real. I have evidence of a Toyota bZ4x in the wild. Over 2 years after it was first launched in Thailand I have seen my first one. -

Virayah have an office near me so popped in today and was quoted ฿30,000 We hear "EV insurance is so expensive" from the EV haters. I don't think 30k is expensive for sports car performance, but maybe it's expensive compared to insuring a 10yr old Vios -

Insurance renewal time for my BYD Seal Performance. BKK insurance offered 20% NCD and a renewal of ฿38k while mentioning that all drivers need to be named. As my wife is under 30 my premium may increase. My sales girl from BYD offered some other company quotes Anyone have any other company quotes? -

The NSPanels look pretty cool and that approach of having a mini display in each room in the way to go for me. I will be repurposing an old tablet with Fully Kiosk Browser as my first smart display. Being Off-Grid, energy monitoring is a big focus for me, that’s why it’s on my “Home Page” If I am downstairs I see it as useful to be able to switch on the aircon in my Cinema without having to go upstairs. So having other room in tabs on one display is my plan, but small displays with just that room will also happen. -

Any Home Assistant users willing to post their dashboards? I am focusing on energy monitoring at the moment. Which I have added into my Living-room page as this is where my display will be mounted. I have downloaded the Power Flow Cards Plus from HACS. It is similar to the official HA Energy Distribution Card, but far easier to manipulate. It has a cool animation showing power movement in your home that speeds up as you use more power. Due to the problems with the HA Growatt inverter integration I will have to splash out for a raspberry Pi from solar assistant to be able to add my full solar data and my EV bi-directional charging. -

My airpod Pros died after a year, then my new apple watch started making emergency calls randomly, took me over a month to get it fixed. Was in a Samsung shop looking at the Ultra Watch when they asked us what phones we had and they then quoted us a cost to change to a Samsung galaxy s24 ultra. As they will be replacing the S24 in January they gave us a very good deal. -

we had Samsungs when they had curved edges and we both both broke our screens. That's when we switched to apple. I have a Mac Studio for video editing and iPad mini and a Pro. The transition has not been too bad as I'm familiar with Android, but I really do prefer it to my iPhone. -

Just changed from Apple to Samsung, which meant changing Phone + Watch plus the same for the wife! Got a good trade in on the iPhones from Samsung - wonder why 😉 -

The biggest problem getting accurate information about EVs, Alternative Energy or Climate Change is disinformation primarily funded by the fossil fuel industry. There are vast profits at stake and most people are easily manipulated. How many times have seen these words posted on AN "of course the future of mass transportation is Hydrogen" Hydrogen produced by the fossil fuel industry from "natural gas" = Methane When I see that, I know I am looking at someone who has done no research to check his "facts" before posting. Are EVs perfect? Of course not. Are batteries 100% immune to thermal runaway? No, but some like LFP battery chemistry are much, much safer. I do a lot of fact checking and somethings I see posted stand up, like don't buy a cheap unbranded e-bike and charge it in your bedroom while you sleep. -

Back in 2018 I attended the BKK motor show looking to buy an EV. I only saw 2 for sale, the Fomm 1 - a micro car and a 40kWh Nissan Leaf for ฿2m. If I wanted to show off I would have bought the Leaf, but it was clearly overpriced for a 40kWh EV with CHAdeMO charging. Do you really think that the need to show off is the main reason people buy EVs? If this was true then we would all be queuing up to buy the new Ioniq 5N for ฿3.8m but you can see the reaction to the price in this discussion.
