"Nobody above the law" narrative ends in tears
impulse replied to SunnyinBangrak's topic in Political Soapbox
Maybe not. The NY Dems inserted a clause that would use taxpayer money to fund her defense. Of course, just like the "Get Trump" Me Too suspension of the statutes of limitation on sexual assault lawsuits (that closed soon after Trump's suit), it doesn't mention her by name. But it's to benefit her. And anyone else prosecuted during Trump's term apparently. In the state budget being voted on this week, Democratic leaders inserted a $10 million fund that could be used by James or other state officials to cover legal fees for actions taken against them by the Trump administration. Republican lawmakers are expected to contest the addition of that money in the state budget and have noted that, in James' case, the property transactions under investigation were personal dealings and not related to her public office. FBI opens formal investigation of NY Attorney General Letitia James https://www.timesunion.com/ (The story is also in the NYP and some of the wingnut sites) If you're a Dem, you may not be above the law, but the taxpayers will probably have to pay for your defense. -

I hope they called Tony from lcsign.com. He's a hoot, and he's getting a lot of attention on YouTube. He sells LED signs. Search YouTube for "Tony LC Signs"

Just 6 or 7 months after the election. That would have been handy info for an informed electorate, eh? Had that happened on Trump's watch, I guaranty that all the MSM reporters assigned to cover the Pentagon would have had and published that information on the day. But they were curiously uncurious when Biden was in office... Why is that, you figure?

Biden’s Gaza pier injured far more troops than previously known More than 60 service members were injured as a part of former President Joe Biden’s floating aid pier in Gaza, a Pentagon Inspector General report published on Tuesday said, a number significantly higher than had been previously disclosed. The pier, announced by Biden during a televised address to Congress in March 2024, was a massive endeavor that took about 1,000 U.S. forces to execute. The fact that it happened is excusable. The cover up? Not so much. That would have been a handy piece of information for the voters to have. Even at 30% trust in the MSM and the Dems, that's too much. www.reuters.com https://www.reuters.com/world/bidens-gaza-pier-injured-far-more-troops-than-previously-known-2025-05-07/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=twitter

Tentative Thaw: US and China Begin Talks to Ease Trade War Tensions
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I wonder if they'll be like little kids that will eventually quit whining and fall asleep when they don't get their way. -
She should be along soon. Meanwhile, you may want to use the forum search function because this has been discussed in the past. You may get more info from that than you would from a new thread. Not that I object to new threads because things do change. But eventually, posters (myself included) get tired of posting the same info again and again.

Huge Wind Farm in North Sea Halted because of cost
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
What I took from the article is that they're going to negotiate a higher price for the power and resume the project. Possibly with more taxpayer subsidies on the front end. -
Report Covid-19 Resurgence in Thailand: Over 8,000 Cases Reported in a Week
impulse replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There's also news on the interwebs about something nasty going around Russia and that seems to be driving an increase in mask use. At least here in China. I haven't seen the news myself, but my local GF has warned me to wear a mask if I may encounter any Russkies. -
I may well be wrong but I would have to disagree that Skype was in any way a similar "competitor" to Microsoft at that time - and certainly not a rival - https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cedy2ygy50do Remember Microsoft bought it from basically private equity owners (ebay still had a 30% stake). Which brings it back around to why Microsoft may regret this move and pissing away the goodwill of millions of Skype users. Politicians are people, too. And a lot of them are hearing from friends and family about the Skype debacle. Meta's in the hotseat for transactions they did over 10 years ago. Not hard to imagine more political pressure to do the same to Microsoft for the Skype transaction of over 10 years ago. They have an OS, a software suite (Office), Edge, and now a communications suite. They may even be forced to divest Teams or... or... Personally, I think they should have sold Skype. Not killed it. They're going to end up regretting the scrutiny that decision will bring down on them.

Huge Wind Farm in North Sea Halted because of cost
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Translation: Ørsted wanted a higher guaranteed price for their electricity and we're going to cave. Everyone that wants to stay warm in the winter will just have to suck it up, have less fun, and eat less to pay for it. -
Biden BBC interview a confusing and evasive performance
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I don't know about never, but at least not until they purge their crazies who seem to have taken over the party. -
Wow. If the war starts between Pakistan and India, it looks like it'll also be fought on the streets of London. With London natives getting caught in the crossfire. But diversity is our strength!

Biden BBC interview a confusing and evasive performance
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The sad thing is that he wasn't being confusing on purpose. Just evasive. -
Sorry if I am being harsh but that seems like nonsense. On what basis? Skype was bought over 10 years ago and has been superseded by alternatives, one of which they have suggested you can transfer to along with your contacts. The fact that some functionality is different is, IMHO, neither here nor there as far as your statement is concerned. And yet, Meta is now being investigated and may be broken up for doing exactly the same thing. Buying up competing products to eliminate competition.

Thailand has reached a new high as #1 in the world

Even fast food... My Thai coworkers were masters of the discount coupon, which were only available in Thai. They'd all get together a little before heading off to lunch and synchronize their coupons. -
Switching to a new phone - massive ballache
impulse replied to scubascuba3's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I know this sounds like a wingnut conspiracy thing, but if they have all your settings, what's to stop them from selling them to a nefarious actor? I know nothing about that company, but I've read horror stories about apps that do nefarious things. Mostly weeded out by Google and Apple stores, but some have snuck through. -
Report Rocket Fest Safety Alert: Aviation Threat from Sky-High Celebrations
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Probably the Thaiest event ever. Who are we to come to someone else's country and try to change their centuries old traditions? (or even if it's just a decades old tradition) I'd love to go see an event, even if there is an element of danger. We all die sometime. May as well be having fun when it happens. I remember how much I enjoyed watching a Thai drift racing event, though I realized that I could be taken out in an instant because of the flimsy barrier between the course and the stands. I'd go again in a heartbeat. It was that much fun. Edit: I'd bet that a lot more people are killed on the way to the events (any major event) than are killed by errant rockets each year. What would you do? Ban all events?
