Indeed. For the OP - forget excitement. Concentrate first on contentment, IMO that is the most important thing when adapting to expat life (it also applies to any form of retirement). Contentment is about the 'boring days', the ordinary days, and being comfortable with yourself is the key to enjoying this (final) stage of your life. Contentment is the base from which you can add excitement - or whatever else you need to enrich your life. Those who simply look for excitement will be disappointed fairly quickly - expat life is not a one month holiday.

Same, same. I instructed the payment on the 5th - normally 6 seconds - arrived late on the 6th. IMO it was down to the public holiday in Thailand and the agent struggling to cope with volumes on the 6th?

It isn't a buffet....I don't normally do buffets. Quality comes at a price. Outside what I would normally spend but Covid probably saved me £10,000 in travel costs so 5,000 Baht, plus another 3k for drinks, for 2 of us doesn't hurt my savings. Next year could be Cheap Charlie's 799 Baht - no doubt just as enjoyable with the right company.

It may lack originality but he has a point. I must admit if I was moaning all the time about a minor irritation in Thailand, I would question whether I was in the right place. If it was a major irritation then I would know I was definitely not in the right place.
