That is correct NKM. Can't even get a Bereavement Payment for a widow. Your comments suggest that you don't have funds for your extension....... so your estate would be negligible.

I don't use an agent..........................I just don't sneer, in a self-righteous manner, at those who choose to do so.
-
I don't think so. You were sneering at people who are happy to pay 250 Baht a month to avoid the clusterfork that can be involved with dealing with Immigration.
-
Nice holier than thou approach! ???? My time is worth more than 3,000 Baht.................and 3,000 Baht is nothing.

1. Yes, of course, there were no family members just willing friends who were prepared to make the cremation arrangements 2. No but there is a potentially corrupt court system to go through to obtain probate - and unlike, say, the UK an individual cannot extract.

I have seen it happen. Single Farang died at home close friends arranged collection of the body and a simple cremation. Embassy authorisation was required to move the body from the hospital.

Two friends tried that route - the Thais were not interested.

Hard to see how domestic tourism can be promoted with current Covid numbers and an instruction to avoid unnecessary inter-provincial travel.

As you rightly say, the appropriate embassy would need to authorise release of the body. I trust all is well in the UK?

Everyone has an estate........................ the deceased would likely have a bank account and/or income.
-
Yes, of course they can. The question was about what would happen if no next of kin etc stepped up to pick up the hospital bill and arrange cremation.
-
PoA has no relevance after the death of the donor. To answer your question (and it has happened) the hospital would arrange disposal.

All mandates are terminated upon death. The attorney would not be responsible for hospital bills. A power of attorney is no longer valid after death. The only person permitted to act on behalf of an estate following a death is the personal representative or executor

No....it doesn't (at the moment) work that way. You were able to add her under prevailing rules so nothing will change. Take your comment a step further and you will understand why many expats are concerned about being able to keep their UK banking relationships. All it takes is for a bank to 'review' it's accounts and boot out those that do not meet CURRENT rules. A somewhat Draconian, and unnecessary, approach - but it COULD happen. What has Brexit got to do with anything?

I made a cash donation, and friends donated dry goods, to Pattaya Food Bank Program. https://www.facebook.com/PattayaFoodBankProgram

Broaden your horizons........you will not be disappointed. Whilst BigC-Extra is consistent in it's quality there is a better variety/quality to be had from some independent operators.

(Transfer)Wise is an excellent money transfer service - it is not a bank. "Your TransferWise borderless account is an Electronic Money account. ... Although your bank details are unique, they don't represent real bank accounts, but simply 'addresses' for your Electronic Money account, meaning you can receive payments much like a real bank account"
