  1. If that were the case, the mask would only cover your mouth.
  2. I started wearing a mask on all flights a few years before Covid. I was getting colds every time I flew a long haul. Too many bozos out there. Gotta protect yourself. I'm used to it now.
  3. I took it once on a round trip. Neither way was anyways near full capacity. This was early 2019, long before Covid. Just not enough customers to make it work.
  4. Edward Snowden detailed how the NSA was spying big time on any and all American citizens; collecting data at will. Did he get a medal for his whistleblowing? No, they wanted to string him up. Don't expect any Thai Snowdens to come along.
  5. A lot of the young hotties leave the country for big bucks in Japan, Korea, Dubai, etc. You are right. It ain't the same scene it was 30 years ago.
  6. Its not pointless for the high-ups in the Gov who are reaping big profits from this charade. Don't expect them to give up the gravy train without a fight.
  7. I heard that the insurance companies are raising the rates for Covid insurance and the coverage stays the same at $10,000. If this is not the most brazen scam, I don't know what is.
  8. The insurance requirement is a scam, plain and simple. Even at 650 baht it is worthless. Try making a claim with this insurance if you get Covid while in Thailand. You will be denied. Some high-ups in the Gov must be raking it in. Reprehensible behavior.
  9. OK, here's the deal. Theoretically, you need to cover the length of your visa-in your case, 42 days, which means you would have to buy 2 months of insurance. BUT, some people are getting approved for the Thai Pass, including yours truly, with only the minimum 30 days insurance. You pays yer money, you take yer chances.
  10. "some hotels might lose their privileges". Translation...lose their place at the feeding trough. Watta racket this Test & Go is. For $150, you get an airport pickup, a $20 swab test, and a crappy meal in the morning. You're gonna have to pry this away from their cold, clammy hands.
  11. I submitted my materials on Saturday with Agoda confirmation. Early Monday came the hotel's official confirmation which I submitted as an add-on using my Thailand Pass number to access my account. Got approved late Monday morning.
  12. I tested negative 11 days after recovery. I only got tested because I needed to for travel. After 5 days, I felt fine. As for fever, I probably had a mild one. I broke out in sweats a couple of times but nothing serious. I didn't have a thermometer to take my temperature.
  13. I'm pretty sure I got Omicron about 24-36 hours after contact. I had two doses of Pfizer but that was 9 months prior to the Covid. The first two days were the worst. Heavy cough, upper body ache, hot and cold, extreme fatigue. 5 day ordeal and done. I stayed at home the whole time. Tested myself the first day and I was positive.
  14. Just bought some cheapo insurance for 650 baht. Here goes nuthin'.
  15. I'm looking at the fine print on the AXA website and it says that the insurance is only good until you leave and does NOT start up again when you return!! This can be a problem for a Non O who has to buy insurance for the duration of the visa. What if I go out multiple times? Am I going to have to buy long term insurance each time? My extension expires in December. I don't want to be buying long term insurance each time I want to go out. Something doesn't seem right here. Can anyone clarify?
  16. I see the fine print on one insurance company website stating that the insurance is valid only until you leave Thailand. If you leave and come back, it does not start again. This is a problem for Non-O if you leave and come back multiple times. Since my retirement extension expires in December, I'm assuming I will need to buy insurance multiple times for long periods. Is this correct?
  17. can someone post the link for Insurance companies comparison? I have to do a Thai Pass to return from Vietnam next week. I'm Non O but I have until Dec.21 on my extension. Looks like I will need 8 months of coverage.
  18. Total rubbish. Tons of girls on Soi Bukhao and Jomtien.
  19. I'm in Danang now and its quite empty. Of course, its only 2 weeks into the re-open so its too early to tell what it will look like in the future. The last time I was here in 2019, the place was full of Korean, Japanese and Chinese. They are all gone. Some Americans living here but only a smattering of tourists. Plane was half full coming over from BKK and not all of them were tourists. Not much different in Ho Chi Minh. I was the only white face around much of the time. I kinda like this. Vietnam is easier to get into than Thailand but not by much. Only difference is no quarantine. I still needed vax card, insurance, e-visa and negative Antigen 24 hr test.
  20. I'm in Danang right now. Quite empty since they only re-opened 2 weeks ago. It wasn't exactly easy to get in but easier than Thailand because no quarantine. I still needed to buy health insurance and get an Antigen test 24 hours before flying. Had to show vax card, insurance, Covid test and E visa (I'm American) at the check in in BKK. Before you could get in line for immigration in Saigon, you had to download an app and show the QR code to an officer before proceeding. It was a bit of a bottleneck but they had a couple of ladies helping you to fill out the idiot form on your phone. Took an extra 10-15 minutes and you could go stand on line and get stamped into the country. Only one time did anyone ever ask to see my QR code and that was when I went into the upscale Saigon Center mall.
  21. 15 years in Jomtien and never rode a motorbike or bicycle. Long live the Songthaew!
  22. I had Covid a few weeks ago. I'm not really worried about a positive test. Then again, TIT....
  23. I'm flying on Friday and don't want to blow 3,800 on a PCR test at Bangkok Pattaya unless its the only option. Antigen 24 hour test is accepted by the airlines but hard to find here.
