  1. we have a couple of shops where we go to get some decent wine at reasonable prices but you do have to search around, many of the bottles we buy have been sitting in the shelves for a few years so the shop has reduced the price to sell them. Have found some good french, aussie and south american bottles amongst them
  2. daughters friend went to Bangkok with her parents on the long wekend and came back to the hospital with it so now our daughter is also in lockdown as is a few other trainee doctors and nurses, still too many not wearing masks or taking precautions but they all know best and refuse to put themselves out.
  3. unfortunately many thias have no regard or pride in their country, they do whatever is easiest for them, I have seen them ride their bikes and side cars to the jetty where my wife works and throw all their bagged household rubbish into the water on the shallow side then start to fish on the other side. You always see rubish being tossed from cars & bikes as well as piles of rubbish on any back streets where dumpers cant be seen easily. Its hard to walk anywhere in Thailand without seeing rubbish but no one sems to care, the stench from canals is also another by product from all the dumping as are all the filthy beaches after high tide. Personally I think a lot of it is just laziness, too hard for some to walk to a bin when the ground/water is closer, would be great if thais took more pride in the state of their country
  4. did a lot of spearfishing in my younger days, never once considered spearing undersize fish or parrot fish because they are garbage fish even though they are plentiful, why spear them when there are so many other better eating fish. Can believe they may be a threatened species in Thailand as thais tend to take everything they can and many dont follow any regulations so taking a protected species wouldnt matter to many but for someone that calls themselves a professional spear fisherman he should be totally ashamed for spearing those fish, too small and not good eating, looks more like he is trying to big note himself and losing misserably. As for doing it in a national park, while he should have checked first the boat captain knows all the parks and regulations and should have made sure everything was done legally but money was obviously more important, hopefully both cop what they deserve.
  5. dont know about now but several years ago I brought a fresh cryovacced aged rib eye from Australia to Thailand in my suitcase packed in a soft sided cool bag with frozen sleeves around it to keep it cool, went through without a problem
  6. many of the "retirees" in Thailand tend to think with their little head, its all about their ego's, their wife/girlfriend is only with them for their money and everyone that sees them together knows it. This is part of what Thailand really is for many, somewhere they can live in their own little fantasy world where playing hide the sausage is the biggest & most important part of their lives but if thats what they want then they have found it here and are happy, personally I find having someone of a similar age that is with you for love much more satisfying
  7. still remember when we stopped the car so I could get out of the passenger side door and as I started to open the door I looked into the mirror and saw a motorbike flying along in the small space between the cars and the gutter so stopped, he would have taken the door off and probably caused major injury to himself and me if hadnt seen him. Unfortunately thai riders dont follow the road rules and do as they please, the police refuse to stop them as well, they are riding outide the marked/lawful lanes on the road so they are at fault but they refuse to accept that here
  8. drunk as a maggot is the main way these idiots drive to hit and kill people yet the police do not go after them and wait for them to turn themselves in, shows how pathetic the thai police really are and how they refuse to actually do their jobs
  9. at least it is still in one piece apart from the handle, we have has 3 suit cases totally smashed up now over 3 different flights by one airline that only started up a few years ago, they offered us 100 baht then went up to 500 baht when I got a bit angry at their carelessness/handling of them. They kept saying if you pay extra for luggage insurance it dosnt happen, this has proved to be true so the damage would be their way of getting the extra money by the look of it. The only reason we use them is their early flights are the only ones that get us to Bangkok at the required time in the morning and their late night flights back save us having to stay over night. Unfortunately customer service just doesnt happen with them
  10. there is no way any serious spear fisherman would even spear the small parrot fish he had or the eel, I did spearfishing for many years, I would not embarrass myself with those fish. What also has to be realized is that the boat captain is the one responsible for taking him into a natioanl park and not informing him of the laws, probably was more interested in getting some extra money. The captain is the one that needs to be charged as he is responsible for what happens on his boat and should be well aware of what is and is not allowed but then again being thai the police would not be as interested in him as they would a farang. As for being a professional spear fisherman, what a total load of BS, just another yahoo making himself out to be something he isnt
  11. hahahaha, they dont want to lose their back handers, too much money for them to just let drop
  12. only if the parent is allowed to hit the teacher back when they find out, no teacher should ever hit a student, it is assault
  13. we bought a new set of curtains from a lage retail store(they are all over Thailand), got them home and when we opened up the plastic cover out popped a bag of pills. Wasnt sure but had suspisions so did a google search on the shape imprinted on the pills, turns out they were meth so crushed the bag/pills and flushed all the contents. Have to wonder if they were using the business as a means to transport them all over the country or one of the staff was using the curtain cover to hide their own supply but there were quite a lot in the bag, probably 50 or so
  14. welcome to Thailand, here if you are rich and have the right family ties you can shoot a police officer in front of a crowd of people then be awarded with a paid position instead of being charged, killing people is allowed if you are rich but being poor you are locked up for years for just picking mushrooms. The police & government in Thailand are so corrupt its not funny, wealth & position means you can do as you please which is why so many thais want to be in the police force/government, they want in on all the graft etc that comes with the jobs
  15. total joke, the leaves do nothing what so ever, the head is the only part that has any effect and is worth using, really have to wonder at the idiots running this sh*t show, no sense even growing it if the heads cannot be used. The leaves themselves are not worth spitting on yet we see shops adding leaf to drinks and food, all it does is give everything a bad taste, thc is in the heads and the trim from them, they either have to agree to let people grow for their own use or put it back on the banned list, licencing sellers is probably the best thing to do for selling it as well as allowing personal users to have a couple of plants only
  16. I grew up in a poor family after our dad died after spending many years in hospital, the best food we got to eat was the left overs from the saturday night function hall where our mum had a third job, most of our clothes were second hand or hand me downs too. We had very little, school was a 45 minute walk or we could ride our bikes(second hand) there, any other travel was by bus after walking 10 minutes to the closest bus stop but we did it. The problem here in Thailand is a lot of people are just plain lazy and refuse to walk any distance, you only have to see how many double park blocking roads to go into a shop when they could park properly 10 metres away and walk back. If thai kids road bicycles there would be a lot less deaths of young riders too but again they refuse to do so even though bicycles are a lot cheaper than motorbikes/scooters and its down to being lazy & loss of face. The amount of idiot riders on that roads is over the top and most of them are to young to have a licence and shouldnt even be riding them but parents just dont care and neither do the police, it has nothing to do with being dirt poor.
  17. family friends lost their 19year old son & his girlfriend yesterday when his bike was hit by a pickup that decided to drive through a stop sign and not give way, boy died at the scene and girl died in hospital later. Driver reckons he didnt see them but it is a very open T intersection, bike had right of way as well but typical of many thai drivers the pickup didnt want to stop, they think that stop signs are a recomendation only and if they want to be ignorant they can ignore them. Really hope he is locked up as it should be murder but he will more than likely get off, the arrogance of many thai road users is a major problem, they think the road laws dont apply to them, police are at fault for not enforcing the rules, if they actually got out on the roads as they do in the western countries they might just make a difference
  18. I bought a 30,000 baht lap top in 2018 when I was travelling a lot more but since covid hit I rarely use it, probably used less than 50 times, its an asus a550v, intel core i7(3.5gb), 8gb ram(I had an extra 4gb added), 1tb hd, just sits in its case now, doubt I will ever use it again. Was a great buy at the time just not needed anymore.
  19. a thai divorce is the best way to go as anything you had prior to marriage remains yours and not hers, you are also entitled to 50% of what you had in Thailand. If she wants half of your UK business she must then get her own UK lawyers etc and take you to court, if you owned the UK business prior to marriage it will also be in your favour plus you can always give your daughter a pecentage of the UK business lowering what you wife is able to claim if at all
  20. mate, pointing out the obvious does not mean you hate it, love living here, would never move back to Australia but I also see many of the downfalls here due to lack of schooling, way some people think or dont think at all plus the incompetence of many as well as all the fraud & graft. Even when you are in your own country people will have a bitch about the same things plus you also have to accept that many thais actually complain about these same things as well. Best thing I ever did was move here many years ago, marry a wonderful lady & have many great thai friends, if you think being honest about what you see etc is hate then the problem lies with you not them
  21. A friends daughter lost all her bank savings yesterday when she was conned by the people running this web site , she saw it on a gaming site(she is young/student) saying they would return more than paid, she sent 2000 baht and got back 3000 baht so she emptied her bank account to them and got nothing back. She was too embarrased to do anything about it because she doesnt want to look stupid but has been convinced to go to the police and report it, I have looked up who is for them and while the registrants details are not showing it was registered in the US, the fraud people at the police station should be able to get onto them fairly quickly as she is going to hand over all their other contact detals, bank account she transferred to etc. Might pay to warn family and friends about this website as they appear to be hitting up younger people/students
  22. have to wonder how long or how far they let chuwit go before he has a nasty accident or simply dissapears, outing thai police and chinese criminals can be bad for your health in Thailand
  23. if you are not signed in when you hit the buy or cart buttons you get this problem, you need to sign in from the top of the page using the sign in button then add it to your cart or buy, I have had this problem for some time, easy to sort out though
  24. lack of qualified tradesmen is the reason any building in Thailand are very suspect, cheap materials so more profit is made, govt jobs being given to the cheapest quote so the awarding officer can pocket more money, the winning contractor then getting their own quotes and keeping the difference from the lowest quote again, this is repeated till there is not enough money to use quality materials and they have to use cheap labour and cut corners. Any tecnical people overseeing the construction/s are told to toe the line or things will happen to them and their families, people winning quotes being killed( a family friend was shot after winning a quote,), the graft & corruption is that bad in Thailand what else can you expect but suspect work on everything from roads to bridges and buildings, profit/graft over rule everything else, roads fall apart within months because no raod base/just red dirt used(if at all), bridges collapse due to second hand materials and buildings fall apart/floors collapse etc due to garbage materials/lack of oversight
  25. creating another office/department where they can collect even more graft from the ones already using graft & corruption to enrich themselves, they do nothing unless it enables them to make themselves richer, none of them are honest, they are all criminal
