Reservoir dogs, Pulp Fictions I can watch the scene where a man is tied up on a chair and on the background a music is playing, "Stuck in the middle with you" 1000000 times..

Maybe in the US, but certainly not in Belgium. The Social Security is something like "GoFund.me" and has nothing to do with Tax payers or Communism. "In the first half of the 19th century, the first local health insurance funds were established in Belgium under the name 'societies of mutual assistance'. They were small-scale mutualities that were mainly organised within one professional group. After the French Revolution, they were banned for a while. Many health insurance funds operated in a legal grey area until well into the 19th century. The companies collected contributions from their members and distributed the support in various ways. Sick members, widows, disabled people or orphans could receive a refund. Some funds also provided vocational training or supported an unemployment fund. The boundary between a mutuality and a trade union was very vague." https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ziekenfonds_(België)

In 2005, during a holiday trip to Jomtien, I meet an Englishman who was on his first vacation in Thailand and he had meet a nice "lady". He was telling how much he was in love with her and they were making plans to marry. He was en "Engineer (train conductor)" and lived alone in his house in England and was planning to go live together. The "lady" was working in a bar nearby and was the regular Issan bargirl. After he left for England, he kept writing me emails and telling me how much he cared for her. She had a motorbike accident, and he sent her money to go to the hospital and to repair her motorcycle. On an other occasion, she told him that her uncle died and the family did not had enough money to pay the funeral. He promptly wend her money to cover the funeral. One year later, he came back to Thailand and married his "lady". First the Buddhist wedding (Gold and dowry) and a few days later the legal wedding. He started the Visa for his new wife UNDER ONE CONDITION: "If somebody in England would ask her where she had been working in Thailand and what her degree was, she had to answer that she was working as a nurse at the hospital and she had a degree in nursing." Most of the stories here about "my wife/girlfriend has a PHD in Physics" shows what they are, bulls***t.

I take "Blood thinners" since my stroke in 1995 and I have been warned by my doctor never to go to a massage shop in Thailand. IIf if I want a massage", leave it to qualified people at the hospital. Massage can lose blood clonters in the veins which are carried to the brain and can cause a stroke.

Is there anything good about getting old?
Confuscious replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The best lesson in life I had about getting old was in 1995. On December 2, a day before my birthday, I got a severe stroke. I woke up in the IC in the hospital, naked and surrounded by all kind of machines beeping. Later I was told that I had passed away, but somehow came back to life. A few weeks after the IC unit, I was transferred to a room. Still paralyzed, I needed help for everything. Putting butter in my bread, go to the toilet, wash myself, etc. A few days after, a man came in my room with his whole family. He had been working all his life as a "Warehouseman" for a big company and was just 4 months retired. We chatted about our lifes and how he was planning his retired life with trips everywhere. He would endly be able to make a cruise with his wife, something they were always dreaming off. A few days after he was admitted to the hospital, a doctor came in the room and told him that they were going to make some tests the next day. The next day, 2 nurses put him on a wheelchair and drove him away. About 3 hours later he came back in the room with a big smile. Everything seemed to be ok with his body. Sadly enough, that evening, the doctor came into the room and told him the bad news. The test had discovered a few "white spots" on the X-Ray pictures and were defined as "CANCER CELLS". The doctor told him that it was best for him to have the infected part of lung removed before it would spread out. He accepted to remove a part of his lung and the next few days I could hear the sound of a pump attached to his bed and sucking the fluid out of his long. A week went over and he was still making plans for the future with his wife. But his doctor came back in the room to tell him that the CANCER had already spread on his lung and the best option would be to remove his lung. He accepted to remove his lung and the next few days I could hear the sound of a pump attached to his bed and sucking the fluid out of his long. A week went over, and he started to accept the fact that his future was not lasting long and he could forget his cruise. A few days later, I was released from the hospital and continued to recover at home. End of January, I received a phone call from his wife that he was given a few hours of life. I rushed to the hospital and he was lying unconscious in his bed, most of internal organs removed and all kind of macjines was keeping him alive. I hold his hand, and a few minutes later I hear the endless beep of the heart rate screen. Moral of the story: We were told that we had to work our life to build up a family and retire, but this was completly wrong. Live your life to the fullest whilst you can and are still able to annd don't worry about a future that my never come. -

Actually, I was having a chat yesterday with a couple (USA/Thailand) which I meet on a beach bar. The lady noticed that I was wearing a Thai amulet and wanted to know where I got it. After telling her that I had been living the last 25 years in Thailand, we had a nice chat together. Aparently, the couple moved to Spain a few years ago and travel every year to Thailand for a family reunion.

Nice video, but you forgot to mention the reality of the topic which is not only lifestyle but also basic life needs. Health care, which is essential for me (and many expats who reach the same age) is almost free in Europe. In Thailand you will need to pay your health care out of your own pocket. At that age, health insurance in Thailand is meaningless as they exclude pre-existing conditions or include a wait time making these ailments uncovered. The many expats and tourists who need a gofund.me when strikes with an accident shows that health care for foreigners is a major cost.

Two Arrested for Luring Tribal Girls into Bangkok Sex Trade
Confuscious replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Like everything in Thailand, no police or NGO would meddle with the daily wrongdoings in this 3rd world country. Only when someone pushes on the "alarm" they will relutantly do something until everybody forget about it. They can arrest a person on the blue list but not arrest the Red Bull guy. -

I know personally a few schoolgirls, same school as my daughter, who went in the weekends to Pattaya to sell themselves on Beach Rd. for the extra packet money. Some of them even catched HIV. Fake ID-Cards. -

Is that number "over 20 years old" choosen arbitrary? Because a member of this forum said that his girlfriend/wife was 20 years old and he spoilt her to death in order to keep her. An other member of this forum answerred: "Great, but are 20 year old cute girls available to accompany you?" -

When i came to Thailand, 25 years ago, there was a woman in the remote village of my girlfriend in Chaiyaphum who offered loans to the farmers. The farmers who were entitled to these loans had young daughters or young sons. Many farmers were unable to pay back these loans and the woman "proposed" them to send their daughter or their son with her to Pattaya and go work there until the loan was payed. -

I am niot an UK citizen. My Healthcare is covered with the EU healthcare (S1) card. When I would need more extensive healthcare, eg.: surgery, it's only a 1 hr flight to Belgium and that wouldbe covered by the healthcare insurance (repatriation). I have the DOUBLE nationality, SPANISH - BELGIAN and I don't give a f....ck about what you think. I don't need to purchase healthcare anywhere in Europe as an EU citizen. My plan is to live again in the EU-zone and maybe later, if my health is good enough, make short trips to anywhere and still be covered by the EU healthcare system which would repatriate me if I would have health problems whilst on vacation.

I love shopping at Mercadona. Just fill your trolley with what you need and ask to deliver it at your home.

It's called the "S1" card. You can Google it.
