It's illegal to not wear underwear when you're out and about in Thailand. So he has every right to ask you... -
British Tourist Fights for Life After Tragic Accident in Phuket
Dmaxdan replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I hope he makes a full recovery. You cannot drop your guard when crossing the road here. You need 100% focus at all times, and a couple of additional pairs of eyes. All tourists should be warned of this before traveling. -
Thailand Yet to Finalise Policy on Taxing Expats’ Overseas Income
Dmaxdan replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I, like many decided it would be better to be safe than sorry so I went and attempted to file a tax return. I got last year's bank statement then trotted off to what I thought was nearest my tax office only to be told I don't live in the correct area. We were then redirected to a much smaller RD located at our district office. On arrival we were seen immediately (there was nobody else in there). I was asked 'do you work here?' to which I replied 'no'. I was then asked 'did you remit large sums of money, for example one million baht plus?' to which I replied 'no'. I was then asked 'well why are you here then?' We, or should I say my wife started babbling on about 180 days and new tax laws on remitted income etc etc and all we got were bewildered looks. The lady we dealt with was adamant that I was not required to file a return nor did I need a TIN. So I left thinking that this is one office that clearly didn't get the memo, if there ever was a memo... -

Call me what you like. I don't and have never paid her a "salary". Of course I buy her things from time to time because that's what you do when you're married to someone. -

17 Dead in Bus Crash on Hillside Road in Prachinburi
Dmaxdan replied to Georgealbert's topic in Thailand News
I'm afraid I have to disagree. The road are in fact appallingly designed. There are many roads around me that are rural two lane highways where you have businesses such as 7-elevens and gas stations that are right on the side of the road. This means you have vehicles slowing and stopping, then pulling out from stationary on the same piece of road as cars and motorcycles driving at 120KPH plus, and changing lanes erratically. It's's complete madness! And don't get me started on U-turns. Vehicles turning slowly broadside on to ones bearing down on them at high speed? Who ever came up with that idea should be lined up on a wall and shot! -
Thailand May Ease Overseas Income Tax Rules Amid Global Changes
Dmaxdan replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Last week I went to my local rural RD office with last year's bank statement about a load of other paperwork and after a 5 minute chat about remitted income,180 days etc was firmly told that I don't have to file... Not unless you remit large sums of money, one million baht up for example. Of course, some "online tax expert" who's been brainwashed by all the bovine excrement that's been banded about by the English speaking media will probably quote me and say that the revenue department employee we spoke to was just plain wrong...I can't wait! I've tried, I've failed, I'm now moving on to more important matters. -
British Man Arrested in Thailand for 2004 UK Murder Case

I'd hand him over to his murdered wife's family. Let them decide how justice should be carried out... -
Bread - Mostly my homemade bread. As for toppings. For breakfast I like to ring the changes. Anything from marmalade, nice fruit jam, Marmite or peanut butter. The latter has to be one of the 100% peanuts ones with no added salt, sugar or stabilizers. On the rare occasions that I eat toast for lunch I would choose cheese or occasionally baked beans. And if I make some homemade soup then just good old butter.

The original Thai article that the Thai Examiner's article and subsequently that ASEAN Now thread were based upon doesn't even mention foreigners or remitted income at all. All the big boss said was to remind "Thai" tax payers, particularly young entrepreneurs to file their returns by 31st of March. The Thai Examiner twisted the RD's Boss's words around the suit their own purposes. Scaremongering basically...

I am leaving Thailand - yes taxes!!!
Dmaxdan replied to Celsius's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I think it's sad that people are jumping ship because of this. Especially when you bear in mind that the Thai revenue department aren't even enforcing this "new tax law". The only people that are, are the English speaking media and unscrupulous foreigners trying to sell you a service that you don't need. -

WISE....Beware !
Dmaxdan replied to kalasiner's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Wise's fee may cost slightly more but using them you will get a much, much better exchange rate than any receiving Thai bank will offer you with a direct transfer using Swift. I'm afraid, at the end of the day it's no contest. -
So cheese that has matured for 24 months goes bad after 25 months? I will let you into a secret, aged cheddars can last 6 months to a year after opening if refrigerated.
