Which is ironic because my wife thinks I'm poor. I'm worried that one day she may find out I've been fibbing all along!

Can I Buy a Kindle Paperwhite 11th Genration in Chiang Mai?
Dmaxdan replied to AddyA's topic in Chiang Mai
OP, out of interest, have you tried turning down the brightness of the backlight on your kindle to see if the spec of light becomes less noticable? -
Not many comments on this so far. I imagine that a lot of members are too busy frantically checking to make sure that Latex Linda is still safely hidden away in that secret closet...

Using same pics for marriage extension again?
Dmaxdan replied to sanook 1's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
This year, for the first time ever I used copies of last year's photos and they were excepted without any queries. This was at Chiang Mai. I have never understood how the immigration officers that process your paperwork know that they are not recently taken photos. They can't possibly remember photos from previous years. And I've never seen a officer sit in front of a computer when processing a marriage extension. And I've done 13 of them to date. I suppose it's feasible that when the photos are checked again during the under consideration phase then copies of old photos from previous years could be become a problem. -
How do I choose ceramic tiles for floors and bathrooms?
Dmaxdan replied to FrederikKitten's topic in DIY Forum
Bathroom floor tiles should none slip. They will have a slightly rougher finish than the normal, glazed floor tiles. As for the rest of the house, surely that's just a matter of taste and budget. Just pick the colour or pattern that you like, preferably ones that will match the rest of the house. For example, what color are the walls painted, what color curtains do you have? The tiles need to fit in with the colour scheme of your house. Also, you will need to know how big the rooms are in a square meters so that you know how many boxes to order. And don't forget tile cement and grout. -
I can't answer your question directly but in the past the world cup has always been screened live on Thai TV. And you can normally change the commentary to English on your TV.

It probably just means that it will be advisory, not mandatory so the police don't have to actually in force it, unless they are short of cash or the perpetrators are farangs...

Well presumably the new law will state that seatbelts have where fitted. That's certainly the case in the UK.

Bread falling after cooking in the oven
Dmaxdan replied to Kenny202's topic in Western Food in Thailand
This could be caused by a number of reasons. Too much liquid. Over proofing of the dough. Gluten too weak, try upping the quantity of strong bread flour in the mix. -

Lucky old you in Thailand with a young wife
Dmaxdan replied to webfact's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My wife is 3 years older than me. I've always joked that in our relationship I'm the young, good looking one! -
No, I'd buy several new watches for that amount of money.

Why does McDonalds cost so much in Thailand?
Dmaxdan replied to dj230's topic in Western Food in Thailand
Does it arrive via the yellow brick road? -
Yes, I'm afraid of dying. But I'm way more afraid of developing a condition such as Alzheimer's and the burden that would put on my loved ones. If and when it's my time to go I want it to be quick, not some long drawn out debilitating illness.

Well presumably there will be a loophole in the new law that states if seat belts aren't fitted then they don't need to be worn. That's certainly the case with the law in the UK. For example many vintage and classic cars weren't fitted with seat belts particularly in the rear when they were first manufactured but you can still travel legally in them without having to belt up. They tried and failed to ban people from riding in the back of pickup trucks some years ago. Although in my humble opinion pickups carrying passengers in the back should be banned from all major highways and should also adhere to a lower speed limit than the rest of the vehicles on the road. But as we know, rules of the road don't mean anything here...

This is actually a very common occurrence here because very few people on the roads read what is going on around them. It's that classic tunnel vision, zombie style of driving/riding that many seem to favor here. So in circumstances like this you always have to stop and check what is coming up the inside before you proceed. As to whether is is your fault or not I would say I'd say 50/50. Her's for not being aware of why the SUV had stopped and why that may affect her and yours for not stopping and checking.
