  1. I agree but the cynics will just say to the Thai revenue department aren't interested in anything like that, all they care about is just bleeding you dry. Whilst completely ignoring that the vast majority of Thai people will never pay so much as one baht of tax in their entire lives, no matter how much they earn. Supporting the Thai population through taxation and getting sweet FA in return isn't a very attractive proposition.
  2. It might also "clear out" a lot of good people. Spouses, fathers and mothers etc. Real people (not sexpats) who are prepared to make sacrifices and devot their lives for the greater good of their families. And because of this many may no longer be able to do so, not at the same level anyway. The riff raff you speak of are, in real terms a very small minority. And let's not forget that Thailand is almost completely incapable of taxing it's own citizens.
  3. Goodness, we've only got 3 and a bit weeks to pack up and get the hell out of here!
  4. All they have to do is search their luggage before they board the plane a Heathrow. If they find wife beater vests, football shirts or union jack shorts just don't let them board the aircraft. Easy.
  5. it's because Thai people never commit crimes such as this, only foreigners.
  6. I've never really been that worried about filing a tax return and potentially paying tax in Thailand. In real terms I only transfer small amounts into Thailand each month. But what does concern me big time is the actual logistics of doing a tax return properly. I live in Chiang Mai province with, apparently 30,000 other long term expats. How the hell are the RD in Chiang Mai going to process that many ignorant foreigner's tax returns within the first three months of the year??? We will all have to all camp out the night before just in the vain hope of getting a slot!!! This is a side of this that the government hasn't thought through... Okay, so maybe a percentage of the long term expats may work here and therefore pay tax on their salaries. But even so... People will say "get an accountant or a financial advisor" but there can't possibly be enough English speaking advisors to go around. And none of them can start working for you until this year is over.
  7. People who, in this day and age are still adamant that the earth is flat are the ones who make me laugh. Most of the same people probably believe that the sun is some form of deity...
  8. From my experience you first have to collect the free delivery vouchers. Most of the vouchers are 30 or 40 baht and you have to spend a certain amount for the voucher to be applied at the checkout. It will state on the voucher the minimum spend, usually it's either 49 baht or 99 baht. If the delivery price is more than 40 baht then you have to pay the difference.
  9. But If I moved away from cash I'd miss out on counting the money in my wallet several times a day to make sure my wife hasn't taken any! And were would be the fun in that!
  10. You have no idea do you! But then again, they do say ignorance is bliss! Why don't you just except it, YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!
  11. It would appear that the plane was close to falling apart. I know that the oxygen masks are supposed to deploy in an emergency but should the air vents be falling down and injuring passengers? The turbulence must have been off the scale!
  12. At last. Someone who actually understands the Lazada return policy! Well done👏
  13. Firstly, you should never ever just give money. If they want a new refrigerator and you want to help out with the purchase then go and buy it yourself. End of. Maybe I've always been lucky. I live in the same village as my in-laws but I've never been asked to give any form of financial support to anyone. For example, earlier this year my wife's 88 year old father died. I offered to make a donation for the funeral but was told it wasn't necessary. Indeed no one else contributed from their own money because everything was fully funded from the village insurance and other sources. That's a lesson in itself for all those naive guys out there who constantly get put upon by their in-laws. Within the family I've always treated as a equal, not a walking ATM. Be a man,not a mouse!
  14. Does the average, healthy 47 year old male need to use the blue pills?
  15. Maybe it's something to do with being a "root" admin... Joking aside, lots of people who come to Thailand complain about what the water does to their hair.
  16. Amnuay Motor Air 2 just off the superhighway will do it for you but I've no idea how much they charge just for installation. I recently purchased a mirror dash camera there and installation was "included" in the price. Also, there is a girl who works there who speaks fluent English. I believe she is the daughter of the owner. You could send them a message on Google maps to inquire about their installation costs. The responded promptly to my inquirys recently.
  17. No that can't possibly be true because the driver is never at fault. The official investigation will be based solely on how much money changes hand.
  18. Who's Evian and is she available for hire? Joking aside, Evian is naive spelt backwards which pretty much sums up the people who buy it.
  19. I've lived outside of Chiang Mai for 15 years now. Pretty much every one of those years has had a 6-8 week period between the end of March and the middle of May where the temperatures have regularly hit 40+C. But is it a hotter than previous years? Perhaps a little but in my opinion not enough to constantly moan about it. It's called the hot season for a reason. Something that you just have to endure every year. Soon the summer storms will kick in causing wide spread destruction, flooding and potential injuries. So out of the frying pan, into the fire...
  20. You should be able to "clone" a new Android phone from your Google account. It should then precede to download all apps from your account along with passwords and login details onto the new phone. It may take awhile so be patient.
  21. I transferred some money from the UK earlier today using Wise and it went through as normal in seconds. I'm slightly confused about why you would be sent an SMS. That has never been any part of the process that I've come across when using Wise.
  22. My wife owns one, as does pretty much everybody else that lives out in the country. It's her go to vehicle when she goes off down the dirt tracks and across the fields foraging. And yes, I have been on it as a passenger on short trips around the village. I've never driven it myself but then again I've never ridden any kind of motorcycle. And I never will.
  23. We have a well maintained 12000 BTU inverter air conditioner in our bedroom. The room is 16 square meters. It is set to 25°C and runs every night from about 7:00pm to 5:30am. Our electric bill in April was 1,186 baht. If my wife didn't use the well pump to water her longan orchard our bill would have been under 1000 baht. I'm estimating that May's bill may be a little higher but not by much more than say 200 baht. What I will say is we live out in the sticks so we pay the standard PEA rate. We don't get ripped off by some unscrupulous condo landlord.
  24. The other car had already stopped so I'm presuming that the driver of the white SUV didn't have right of way and should also have stopped. If that is the case he should be held accountable.... However, in Thailand whether you have right of way or not you should always approach any intersection with extreme caution. The elderly Swiss guy clearly didn't do that.
