Economy Thailand’s Wealth Gap Widens: Most Bank Accounts Below 50,000 Baht
JimHuaHin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One is reluctant to use the word "revolution", but Thailand is moving closer to meeting most of the classic conditions fostering a (violent) revolution ("violent" in brackets considering the large proportion of Thais owning weapons and growing number of violent acts we read about daily in the Thai media). -
How to tell if you're dealing with a MAGA folk?
JimHuaHin replied to StandardIssue's topic in Political Soapbox
Answer - these days, just ignore. Previously engaged in "discussions", but all my evidence, research evidence, scientific data, etc. were ignored as "woke" false propaganda. Cannot argue/reason with zealots. -
Poor Don; he knows about the art of the deal; but his knowledge of WWII seems highly distorted and/or inadequate.

Tourism Tourism Shock: Thailand's Visitor Numbers See Alarming Plunge
JimHuaHin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just yesterday I was reading the minutes and the press conference slides from the last Thai central bank meeting on interest rates. On one of the slides, there was a graph on the number of Chinese tourist arrivals in Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan (for memory). Since the beginning of this year, Chinese tourist arrivals are sharply down in Thailand, but up in the other three countries. Clearly, Chinese tourists are still going overseas, but Thailand has lost its attraction. -

When was the last time that you spoke with a foreigner?
JimHuaHin replied to simon43's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Last spoke with a farang yesterday - a short 2-3 minute chat. I prefer to chat with some Thais, they seem more interesting than the constantly complaining expats I frequently encounter. -

You should do a bit more research. I have been there twice over the past decade - both times to take then Thai gf to some Ministry of Public health meeting/conference being held there. -
Tourism Thailand Adjusts Tourism Goals Amid 30% Drop in Chinese Visitors
JimHuaHin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Agree with your post. Certainly a number of "tourist" establishments in Hua Hin are struggling and some have closed. Re gambling Thai wives, two of my close friends from my uni students days in Australia came to Thailand to work in the 1980s for a few years. Both couples were married in Thailand. One of the wives was a mall sales lady in Bangkok and the other a highly educated well paid professional. After both couples returned to Australia to live both marriages ended in divorce after a few years due to the wives' casino gambling addictions. Both friends told me that their wives would meet up with other Thai expats in Australia, and then go off gambling together. -
Problem with calcium buildup with Emaux clorinator
JimHuaHin replied to rodger's topic in Swimming Pool Forum
I had a similar problem (I think, from your description) in Australia. My local pool shop advised cleaning the plates by inserting them into a solution of hydrochloric acid, which I did about once a month, for about 10 minutes, for memory. Have your tried a Google search on this problem? It may provide more precise instructions than I can.
