Would point out China is more welcoming to foreign tourists than Thailand (or the USA). When I went the Chinese authorities had absolutly no interest in me, where I was going or what I was doing. In fact as a Brit my last visit to the USA was considerably harder than my visit to China China immigration just waved me through, USA immigration asked me all sorts of questions. No lack of grace by Chinese authorities, only communication problems (no English anywhere I went)

Rented loads of different houses, whenever a problem arises you just move, this is what the Thais do. Structural problems........ move. Strange leaks ......... move. Intrusive landlords ......... move. Noisy neighbours ......... move. Bonkers women trying to harm you ......... move.

Forget lawyers, forget the police, move somewhere else. There is no realistic alternative, and to not abandon a rented property makes no sense. In my case, it was 2 weeks before the police caught the guy, and his insurance agreed to pay, who could have predicted he'd have been tracked down or had any insurance at all, let alone 1st class?
