6 months back a Thai university lecturer tried to kill me because I bumped his car with a plastic bag hanging off my m/c. My first live in Thai girlfriend admitted she had paid a tuk tuk driver to kill her Swedish husband in a hit and run. I can assure you the threat of random and excessive violence is always here.

A bit unfair, some Thai males wearing dresses look quite attractive to me ....... But then I'm used to looking at British women.

Probably the worst thing is the weather, it rains every day in Glasgow, and it rains most days everywhere else. Freezing cold rain that blows in from the side. So you're trapped at home or at work nearly all the time. Never really experienced 'hard financial times' as I was always paid more than I could spend.

It was so bad in Glasgow we used to roll up to the BBC club after work every evening and get blind drunk. My boss (lovely lady) was found face down dead at her desk one morning, drowned in a pool of her own vomit. Not sure about socially incompetent, I knew when it was my round, and that was about it socially.

But they aren't the government of all western countries. They just happen to be in power at the end of civilisation as we know it. Nothing anyone, anywhere can do to change that.

I'm not convinced it's the Conservatives fault. Generally, the whole western world appears to be sliding downhill.

I used to live in Glasgow .......... anywhere in Thailand is better than there! All countries appear to be oppressive these days, at least here it's sunny and oppressive. If I were really, really rich I'd probably go and live in a castle in Germany.

You're right, I'd leave tomorrow if it weren't for my Thai wife and kids. The problem for many of us, before we learn the reality of Thailand, we've accumulated a Thai family.
