You'll be lucky to get that much back, 5-6 units a day max = around 8,000bht year ROI. (Unless your 1660W of panels produces a lot more than my 1670W of panels) = Payback in 4 years. If you want to reduce your payback time, add another 2 panels to your system. 2021 I generated 1,939 units @4.2bht/unit = 8143bht

DIY Basic GTI + panels is cheap as chips (20kbht with 5x340W panels), ROI 500-600bht/month. Payback time 40 months. But the next step up is a really big one. Batteries and a on/off grid hybrid (100kbht with 10x 340W panels and 10KWHr storage), ROI 1000-1200bht/month. Payback time 100 months. Obviously double my estimates if you get someone else to install it. Most people make the mistake of not thinking why they want solar. If it's just to save money, GTIs is the way to go. If you're prepping for TEOTWAWKI, then you'll need batteries. If it's because your gf's land is somewhere 'inaccessible', then it's probably cheaper to buy some new land nearer civilisation.

Storing electricity is expensive, most of us use the grid as our battery (winding the meter backwards in the day). But if you don't have the grid, you need to buy batteries to store your electricity for the night. To store 10 units of electricity, a battery would cost 50,000-70,000bht. Another 20,000bht for the off grid hybrid inverter. Add 30,000-50,000bht for 15x solar panels.

I have 5 panels and 2 GTIs, they provide about 140 units a month but need the PEA electricity to work. Cost around 20,000bht. If I was off grid I'd need to spend more like 100,000bht, batteries are expensive. If you have to hire someone to install it for you, double the price.

I never did anything like that when I was a tourist. And also the rules change so quickly, what you read the week before, is different when you arrive. Presumably the western insurance companies will get tired of being gouged and just refuse to cover Thailand, along with the airlines refusing to fly here.

My 5 panels produced 141 units, and I bought another 172 in December. I'd buy another 2 panels if the price hadn't gone up so much.
