Thaksin: Former Thai PM's prison sentence reduced to a year
sambum replied to Social Media's topic in Thailand News
Apart from the fact a minimum part of the sentence has to have been served before an application can be made. Amazing how this fact seems to have escaped the authorities. I presume that there will now be a deluge of applications from newly incarcerated prisoners saying "If he can do it - why not me?" (OK the answer is B**T!!!) -
Thaksin: Former Thai PM's prison sentence reduced to a year
sambum replied to Social Media's topic in Thailand News
Can sentences be reduced even further in Thailand for "good behaviour"? If a sentence can be halved by pleading guilty, and a 10 year sentence reduced to 8 years literally overnight, and now reduced to 1 year, Thaksin could be a free man in a couple of months!!! But I would hazard a guess that the deal that has been done as it stands now has been politically motivated ???? And the Army are still pulling the strings! -
"He'll be ........."etc etc etc". All of these forecasts are probably from the people who said "There's no way that Thaksin will ever come back to Thailand unless he has a Royal Pardon first". But the truth of the matter is that he is here in Thailand (Unless it's a Doppelganger) - sorry to spoil your theories, but that's all they are. By the way, I'm neither a Thaksin or Government supporter, merely making a comment on the way this post is progressing.

And you know this for a fact? He's probably also got a "taster" to check that it hasn't been poisoned, right? Or maybe that's what made him ill in the first place causing him to be transferred from the prison hospital to the Police hospital, right?
-
But wasn't it just a couple of months ago that he was getting all dressed up in trendy clothes (mutton dressed as lamb springs to mind!) in his efforts to woo the young voters into supporting him in his wish to be PM if Prayut stepped down?

Petition submitted against Thaksin seeking Royal pardon
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"...............and suddenly in Thailand he gets sick." It was reported quite some time ago that he was sick - all part of the plan - he didn't look particularly ill when he landed at DM airport! If I remember correctly, he said he wanted to come back to Thailand to look after his grandchildren. How is he supposed to do that from inside a jail cell? Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin:- "a criminal Army general can get what he want????" Yes, by taking the country by force in a coup and getting rid of the Democratically elected Government, installing himself as PM, and illegally altering the Constitution in favour of himself by installing 250 unelected Army Generals as Senators, in order that the future is "looked after"! Not often a Thai is "pro active"! "Shameful Thailand!" -

"Get rid of this nonsense where every immigration office interprets the rules in different ways." 100% correct and one of the most frustrating things about Thailand. I was in an Immigration Office a few years ago when someone was querying some thing they were being asked to provide, and said "But there's nothing in the Immigration Rules or your checklist about that" and the I.O. replied "I make the rules here!" Which unfortunately is indeed the case in many scenarios. ???? -

Phuket Landlord Shocked At Damage Caused By Foreign Tenant
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
"Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think being an owner of rental properties is not always a big bowl of cherries." Hurrah to that! I sold my house in my old home country a couple of years ag after renting it out for many years, and made the right decision - the hassles of finding suitable tenants are only the first problems. Local councils seem to be going out of their way to make it more and more difficult for "small" landlords - making new rules and regulations that are tailored more for the "big bad boys" in property rental but not differentiating between the two (Like Peter Rachman - Google it) I had to tailor my 2 bedroomed terrace house to the same specifications as a 6 to 8 bedroomed house built primarily for student lets, and all the forms required that have to be filled out in order to "register" your property seem to change monthly - and if you have not complied - big fines will follow! -
Phuket Landlord Shocked At Damage Caused By Foreign Tenant

"...........with the leaky roof almost collapsing and mould growing on the walls,"........... I don't think that the tenant can be blamed for THAT! "but it seems he is getting ready to catch a flight out of the country tomorrow (Aug. 25)." "He added that he would like an entry ban imposed on this tenant as he still has a valid lease to continue living in the house and he was afraid if he did so more destruction would occur." If he is planning to leave the country tomorrow, I don't think he is planning to continue living in the house, and has probably realised already that there is not much chance of getting his deposit back! (Not condoning his behaviour by the way!) -

AND an Army general/MP who didn't declare a few million baht's worth of watches prior to taking up his position in the Government? Or has that case not been proved yet as he "forgot about them"? -

Without taking sides was it not reported long before he came back to Thailand he was not in the best of health? However, I think that "not being able to sleep" does not really count as an illness that the prison hospital was unable to treat, causing him to be transferred to the Police Hospital! I would imagine that ALL prisoners have the same problem on their first night of incarceration! Tightness in the chest was a good enough reason on its own if he has a heart problem, but somebody could have thought of a better illness than "insomnia" as a secondary reason! -
Thaksin Slightly Better But Still Needs Oxygen, Room Cooled By Fans
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Fans don't really affect the actual temperature of the room - they just move the air around, and make you feel more comfortable. -
I wonder who is the script writer for this soap opera? Probably one of the ones responsible for the oh so believable dramas that our wives/GF's watch on Thai TV. So unpredictable with so many twists and turns in the plot it makes my head dizzy, but as far as I can see there will be only one end result - check Mel Gibson's dying words in "Braveheart"!

Thailand just chose a prime minister. He’s not the one people voted for
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"On Monday, he told reporters it was “necessary," given the country’s protracted political deadlock, for people to move past the party’s earlier promises not to cooperate with military leaders." Didn't the Who (And I don't mean the World Health Organisation!) hit the nail right on the head? :- ".....Then I'll get on my knees and pray. We don't get fooled again. Don't get fooled again. No, no. Yeah Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss ..." I wonder if Pete Townshend would do lottery numbers if asked nicely?
