Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
CLW replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Below is screenshot from the official announcement Thai MOFA For eligibility criteria 2.) Muay Thai or sports training. Does it mean I can enroll for Thai boxing class or weightlifting courses at my local gym and this is enough to get a five year visa? Sounds to good to be true.... -

Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements

Not, it does not. I just checked the regulations on the Thai Embassy of my home country. It clearly says the 180 days is per entry and starting from zero again once you leave and re-enter Thailand. No limit of days per calendar year. Visa is valid five years and can be extended ONCE within the country for a total stay of 360 days without leaving. -

So according to this answer, once I have this visa, I can stay in Thailand 179 days, leave the country, come back and get another 180 days? I can do this for a period of five years? And only for an initial fee of 10,000 THB? -
Not if you are using TOU
-
Well, up to you. I did my calculation and it's not worth using solar panels on my house. Sad but true. Btw, I own an EV and charge it using TOU tariff from MEA. ROI of solar with battery storage was between 10 and 15 years. Simply not worth it.
-
And reducing the life time of your car battery??? Have you thought about that
-
Stupid answer. Up to you. Think what you want. If the chicken roaming around freely, you can't blame predators for killing them.

The DTV is not a five year visa. You can stay a maximum of 360 days (180 + extension 180) within those five years in Thailand. If you are planning to stay long term here, it'll give you a mere 72 days per year, the other time you need to spend outside of Thailand. Of course it's an option for those who are awaiting other visa types. But under the new rules they also could enter Thailand 60 days, extension 30 days. Leave and re-enter the country, do the same procedure. Also 180 days total. With less paperwork and probably same cost. On the other hand I wouldn't trust any policy of this government for five years. You never know what happens (see cannabis legalisation...) -
Unless you can sell the electricity, solar is not financially feasible in Thailand. For the investment cost you could use grid power for approximately 15 years.

Travelling on one way ticket.
CLW replied to Issanraider's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Most airlines ask for an onward or return ticket -
What is your point? Are there dogs killing your chickens or not? Usually chicken should be in a cage or fenced land. And locked inside at night. If dogs are a problem, just use a slingshot and clay balls to deter them.

Where to buy bricks (boxes) to make a retaining wall?
CLW replied to AnotherOneHere's topic in DIY Forum
SCG should have them. There is another producer, CCP (Chonburi Concrete Products). They deliver nationwide -
Icarus or Ikarus brand. not sure. you can find them on Instagram
-
That's why I want to buy most of the material for building a house by myself and also always observe the work they are doing. I mean it can't be so hard to give the concrete a painting with bitumen or lay a thin waterproof cement layer, right?
-
Because construction here is all about being cheap. That's why they not use it. From what I understand about this topic, you can either used bitumen-based paint or waterproof cement slurry as vapor barrier between foundation and walls. See my post above with example pictures. To your link, Sika has a localized Thai website with a similar product (two-component based). They also seem to have liners and bitumen products, however I guess they are only for professional applications. I couldn't find them at the usual stores such as Thaiwatsadu etc. https://tha.sika.com/en/construction/waterproofing-systems.html and go to waterproofing mortar
-
@Kinok Farang Since I did not find DPC as a roll, can these products below used equally? One is bitumen paint, the other waterproof cement slurry. Thank you!
-
Thanks, yes. DPC is what I was looking for. So something like this in below pictures, right? Is it available in Thailand?

Makro vs GO Wholesale - What is your favourite?
CLW replied to CLW's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
And besides the mentioned better fish and seafood selection at GO, their bakery has more items. But it is also a gamble because most Thais don't know a bagel or focaccia, so they stand three or four days in the store. Last time I bought baguette and focaccia that was hard as a brick and totally dried out..... Makro bakery just does the things that have high selling volume such as toast, sandwich bread, sweet buns, etc. In my opinion any Makro with a bakery attached (inside the store) has very good burger and hot dog buns -
It is more like fashion and trying to look cute. And a good business for dentists.

Makro vs GO Wholesale - What is your favourite?
CLW replied to CLW's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
so my question about which store is better has turned into a conversation about processed food, peanut butter and that you can't use credit cards at makro, which is known since years.... 🙄 -
Agree. But this works only on a flat surface. How to do with the situation at above picture? Raised foundation on slabs. Or is the distance to the soil sufficient?
-
Long time Makro customer I now occasionally visiting GO wholesale. Commuting to both stores is almost equal, so this is not an issue. While I found that the vegetable and fruit section at any Makro (big or small) beats GO wholesale, the meat and especially seafood tends to be better at GO wholesale. However, most GO markets are so huge, you need too long to find everything IMO. Positive is their bistro with pizza slices, grilled chicken and BBQ spare ribs. What experience do others have with those two brands?

Public Health Minister Discusses Change in Cannabis Status Amid Protests
CLW replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I would say Thailand has more health-threatening issues than Cannabis: Kratom, Smoking, Alcohol abuse, Vaping, Meth and bad air quality. Just to name a few
