Q: I am about to apply for a visa online as I arrive in Hanoi on Friday. I visit Vietnam often, so would like to apply for a 1 year visa, but some forums suggest that this is only available for US citizens. Is a 1 year available to a British citizen?
A: We are afraid that 1 year visa is currently available for US passports only, we will keep you updated when it becomes available for UK passport holders.
Vietnam is a less viable option than Thailand it seems as maximum stay is only 3 months (unless US).
Yes I am Aussie ie non us citizen and I can apply for a 1 year vietnam visa online. Many people have applied and got it before no problems at all. The 1 year TOURIST VISA is only available to US citizens but for all other citizen you can get a 1 year BUSINESS VISA. It costs a little more then the tourist visa around 450usd, 300-350 for the visa and 120-150 for stamping. It allows you to conduct work within vietnam as well as scout out business opportunities.
It is a 1 year multiple entry visa as well!- 2

As someone in a similar position I would say you would have to be pretty silly to buy the elite visa!! No one knows what thailand will be like in a few years time it has already gone downhill fast in just the last 6 years. You can buy a 1 year business visa for vietnam for 450usd that is multiple entry as well, no need to get re entry permits. The other option is to do a ED visa here for a year if you want to stay and not leave. End of the day with the sort of money you are earning it would be far better to just spend 3 months in thailand and the rest of the time in Vietnam or even Malaysia!!

Sure I would date her, Would never marry her, Nor would I be stupid and buy her anything big like a car or put any property in her name etc....Take her out to dinner few times a week buy her a dress or some shoes 1-2x a month....Cheap for thailand 3-6k
thb a month....Much cheaper then marrying lol

You used the right term. It was a story. And you are now using the unlinked, vaguely recounted story as if it were fact.
There are many stories posted by people who are confused about what happened to them or intentionally edit the stories they tell to enhance the drama and their victimhood.
Hoping to fear monger, other posters then refer to these situations as being "the same as you."
you could be correct either way he and many others HAVE been denied at bangkok recently. There is a risk albeit small that the poster will be denied at bangkok airport...IT has been confirmed multiple times that it is much safer to fly into chiang mai instead.

While it may be what you wanted to hear, there was recently a story of a german expat who did the same as you come off retirement get toruist and he was denied in bangkok and sent back to germany. At the current time no one can say for sure if you will be denied or not, up to the IO on the day. Best bet would be to fly into chiang mai then transfer to bangkok.

Look It's pretty simple I am young compared with most here and a long way from retiring but I remember coming here 6 years ago for the first time and it was GREAT. There was so much freedom the dollar went a long way and you could relax here and not really worry about most things. Wow how things have changed in just 6 years.... The visa situation went from not a problem, relaxed to over the top enforcement and denying many for any reason they want to making just entering a nerve racking experience.
The AUD has dropped from 33 to 20 and yet the fruit and veg and products from Australia have not budged an inch in price in fact most have gone up. Because of the high THB most expats are no longer spending like they used to and many locals(not all) are not happy about expats being stingy. The cost of many condos/apartments are now getting closer and closer to western prices the cost of living is rising closer to a western cost of living.
The cheap easy going relaxed Thailand that most fell in love with is now a thing of the past and I don't see it returning anytime soon.- 3

yeah I thought about this as well as it was something that was talked about several times. When I brought it up with Thai Elite they said that this would not work, that my visa expires Feb 2020 and thats it, I can't do a slip out and come back just before it expires. At least that is what the last two reps have said to me. I would love to hear if someone has actually extended to the 6 year somehow as an actual fact. They told me that I would not get a one year stamp but instead it would be a stamp up to the day of my expired visa date
of course they would say that...that want you to buy it again and not get a free year. I would just try and do a quick out and in before it expires...or worst case just do two land border runs and extend them both.

So what people are saying is "Remove your fingerprints" and you will be fine hehehe. In all reality it does not seem to matter how long you have been out of thailand if you spent a lot of time here before then you may be interviewed... No one can really say what will happen these days it seems like the wild west at immigration now and anything goes...You should be fine but one can never say, like others have said fly in from kl and then at least if you get denied head back to kl and enter by land.

Pretty simple Chang Mai used to be a hub for digital nomads and was always the goto place for nomads who were just starting their journey. Due to the high prices, low thb and visa situation in thailand, Vietnam is now the goto place. I don't know anyone that is going to thailand anymore, everyone is going to vietnam or malaysia. Chiang Mai used to benefit from the thousands of blogs/ promotion from digital nomads as well that was all positive, Since they have all left all those blogs are now negative about thailand which would also be putting a lot of people off!

of course plastic in the water is serious...where does 90% of the plastic in the water come from....5 rivers...none of them here!! I love when people say we should change back to reusable glass bottles...yeah so instead of plastic everywhere there will be broken glass everywhere instead!! The world does not have a plastic problem...It has a inconsiderate human problem. banning bags from stores will just mean people chuck out a big garbage bag with a few items every night instead of a small bag they got from the store....Stop saying ban plastic and come up with a reasonable alternative that won't make the situation worse!!

You are comparing people that have lived here for years and then left to your friends that come over for a few weeks and then leave....It is not remotely similar. Everyone loves a place when they just spend a few weeks it is only when you live in a place that you truly see how it really is.

They will not ask for ticket out of the country at that crossing. It is seldom asked for at other crossings.
Same for showing 10k baht in cash (visa exempt entry requirement).
If you actually have a extension of stay issued by immigration and not a 90 day entry from a non-b visa they may asked to see a termination letter a the Mukdahan crossing before you leave the country.
I am thinking of doing the same but satun border my current non b is an ed visa and is an extension. Do I need a letter from my school for this?? I am just wanting to do a visa run so that i get an extra 30 days to sell up all my stuff.

And normal girls never act crazy and selfish as the one referenced in the OP?
I like the idea that a sex-worker could claim PTSD and get on some type of disability for it.
Just life itself can cause psychological damage, according to psychologists. haha
I have dated many normal girls here....They just as crazy as bar girls...Now I only date foreigners!!

I am just finishing up a 1 year ED visa but looking to stay 1 month more to get rid of all of my stuff before I leave. A border run to satun seems the easiest way these days with airports cracking down. I have never ever done a land entry before so would it be the safest option and what would i need to do one, ticket to fly out within 30 days? 20k cash? And has anyone got a voa at satun border recently?

if every biz just started charging 5 baht a bag people would start bringing their own for sure.
point here being EVERY....the smart businesses would give them out for free and see a surge of customers...I know if i have 2 options to shop i choose the place with free plastic bags EVERY time and I am not alone....Seen many a shop here try to stop plastic bags and even though they started offering them again a few months later their businesses have never fully recovered.

And what is considered a genuine tourist...someone that stay 2 weeks, 3 months...what, There is no definition and no clear set of rules saying you can only spend so much time in thailand, it is up to the IO on the day. Many friends message me because they see I have stayed in thailand before and when searching thailand in google they have seen all the visa problems and denials from people who had visas.
Most westerners think "A visa from an embassy guarantees you entry as the embassy vetted the person thoroughly" so them entering with a visa on arrival is super risky. I have never heard of anyone with an actual visa denied entry into a western country! They would rather not take the risk and head to vietnam or bali where it is guaranteed entry and no risk of denial at the airports...or at least not frequently reported as we are seeing with thailand currently.- 3

I am loving the cheap prices and more quiet beaches. Meanwhile......... on TVF:
Had many friends from Aus who only come 1-2x a year ask me about the visa situation, They are tourists and I tell them what everyone else has told them as well, You may be denied at the airport depends on the I/O of the day, better to goto vietnam. Guess what they all went to vietnam!!

Thaivisa is not hate speech though there is a lot of Thai bashing going on.
Of course certain things should be banned, be-headings stuff like this shooting. Seems logical to me. Total free speech is crazy
The only problem with that is peoples curiosity gets them and they want to see it. As soon as i heard all the gov's were banning that video i wanted to see it and so did all of my friends. Not because of what was in it but because the gov was telling you "no you cannot see this". What happens then is the government end up driving people to find a lot worse stuff than the video they were trying to stop people watching.

Don't forget Thailand got along just fine before plastic bags came along. So did every single country in the world. This is the beauty of the whole thing. We know life without plastic bags works--we used to do it before, no one complained, and it would be even better now with improved organic materials and 21st century packaging. Better than plastic. Don't worry though, nobody wants that.
Don't forget Thailand got along just fine before cars and motorbikes and trucks came along and these are far worse for the environment then plastic bags...TIME TO BAN THEM we know life without cars works - we used to do it before, no one complained and it would be much much better for the environment ????

This is just the reality these days, Everyone has noticed it. 5 Years ago in phuket there was young stunners everywhere in the bars...These days most are 30-35+ and very hard to find a 8 or a 9 let alone a 10. Our theory is all the really hot ones have basically moved on to using social media especially instagram to make a living instead.

I refuse to shop at any of the stores that refuse to give away plastic bags. If bigc or tesco want to be stupid and ban plastic bags then people will just shop at their competitors instead. Because people are always trying to get them banned I ALWAYS ask for plastic bags now I don't care if it is just 1 bottle of milk or something that I will eat straight away I get a plastic bag for it anyways!! THIS IS WAR PEOPLE!!!! Don't let the no plastic bag whimps win ????

WOWW so much disinformation in 1 post.....
Drivers license only valid for the duration of the visa....NOPE it's valid for the duration of your HOME COUNTRIES license. IN my case my bike license was valid for 8 years!!!
Hospitals are WAY WAY WAY Cheaper then Thailand, My blood tests in vietnam are about 1/8th of the cost they are in thailand. MRI is 1/5 the cost of thailand and so on so on.
I lived and travelled all over vietnam by motrobike. Have lived in hcmc for 18 months never had my motorbike stolen, never locked it up, never had my phone stolen and never even saw anyone have anything stolen....Yet when I lived in Kuala lumpur I saw many bags being snatched by guys on motorbikes, In thailand again I have never seen anyone get anything stolen. The vietnamese people are extremely nice and always smiling to me especially when you get out into the local towns, the whole town came out just to meet me!
Places for rent, Use the big 2 rental websites, both in vietnamese but easily translated with google..a room is a room and a house is a house!!
ATM's Learn to use ANZ or Commbank atm's both have 10 million or 20million transactions!!- 9

It's been an absolutely terrible low season for hotels in phuket especially the ones without contracts for the big chinese tour buses.....How do they make up this windfall....charge more money...I looked at joining the local golf course here in phuket last year and the membership and daily play rate has skyrocketed....I asked why so high now she said less members so everyone have to pay more...It's the thai way!!!
