How to deal with an overwhelmingly negative opinion of Thai people.

It started as security measure to protect important people (choose your own interpretation of that) from criminal acts, particularly terrorism and assassinations. Now it's just become a habit that many think is a must do. no matter who they are.- British Embassy Affirmation of Residence
We never had to fly to Bangkok for the income letter from the British embassy. It was all done by mail. Granted it did cost 52 GBP as apposed to free service I now provide myself by preparing the paperwork to prove my income, so I'll concede you that point.- Would you try Lab grown meat ?
Penicillin is a naturally occurring antibiotic discovered in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. And as far as I'm aware all antibiotics are naturally occurring. They will of course have been refined in a lab for medical use.- Would you try Lab grown meat ?
Here's what ChatGPT has to say: 'Yes, lab-grown meat is real meat. It is generated by growing animal cells in a lab using various techniques, and it is made up of the same cells, proteins, and nutrients as conventionally raised meat. Although it is produced in a different way, it is still considered real meat'. So it seems to me that it is possibly healthier to eat than the 'real' stuff, giving the way many animals are raised and the junk that they're feed on, especially hormones and antibiotics. And it has to be kinder on the environment.- Post documents to the UK
I've sent a lot of mail the the UK using Thai Post registered and never had one go missing.- Best way to explore Isaan?
Here's a good website for you @fred2028 that lists attractions in Udon Thani province. My favourite 'must see sites' are: 3. Wat Pa Phu Kon High in the hills to the east with a huge reclining Buddha. 5. Wat PhothiSomphon (find on Google maps as Wat Pa Ban Kho) This temple is amazing. The best by far Stuka I've ever seen and interesting museum. And one that isn't listed here is the Chinese Cultural Centre in down-town Udon. It's an interesting historical museum and a pleasant change from the (yawn) 'not another temple syndrome'. I used to visit this place regularly not the least because I have a particular interest in Confucius who is depicted there. Plenty more stuff to find and explore.- Alarm bells ring in overloaded Thai public health system as exhausted doctors quit in droves
If you're going to catch any communicable disease, a hospital is the most likely place to do so. Which is why I avoid them like the plague. (yes pun intended)- Best way to explore Isaan?
Sounds like a good plan. I lived in Udon Thani for 3 years and found some great places to visit. I'll run a list up for you later. In the mean time look up UD Car Rent at https://www.ud-carrent.com I've had great service from them in the past. BTW you do not need an IDP.- After Many Decades Living in Thailand (or Asia), ... Do You Sometimes Dream of your First Wife....Left Back in the "Old Country"? Do you dream VIVID Dreams about her, too?
I wouldn't know and I wouldn't care if I did. We can neither control our dreams nor remember them for any length of time, in my case about 5 minutes.- 90 Day online BKK Not Processed
I always submit my report on the 1st available day, like 2 weeks before the due date. I then have plenty of time to chase it up if I don't hear back from them. My wait has been as long as 4 days and as short as 5 hours, but they've never let me down. I do wonder whether our office in Sakon Nakhon does a batch of report checks maybe once or twice a week resulting in the spread of results. Some people, in the past have quibbled about doing the report early saying they loose out on a number of days. Wow, it takes 5 minutes. Yes, it's rife on this forum isn't it!- What type of Laptop do you use?
Acer Aspire and have be for been for almost 20 years. I'm on my 3rd one now, bought here with Windows 11 installed. I began to have problems with the previous one, mainly overheating and shutting down. My new one. with SSD runs quickly smoothly and very quietly. It's a joy to use. It even has an illuminated keyboard.- Banks refusing to witness Life Certificates for UK Pension Service now?
Lovely story. It just lends weight to the old adage: If you don't ask, you don't get'. Well done.- Currency Transfer Using Wise.com
Thanks for clarifying that. I was getting a little confused by all these conflicting posts. I'll have my passport to hand next time around, just in case. ????- Banks refusing to witness Life Certificates for UK Pension Service now?
An interesting tale. I think all this worrying that they display is down to the fact that they simply do not like taking responsibly and will look for any excuse to 'slope shoulder'. Glad to read you resolved the problem and was able to laugh it off. I think I'm able to get anyone in the village to sign mine for me now and I'll just call them 'Village Mayor', whether they are or not! I always put the address of the local government offices, as it appears on Goggle Maps. That seems to keep them happy.- Can anyone recommend an over the counter sleeping pill?
There is no logic to that whatsoever. A full bladder is still a full bladder, no matter what medication one might have taken.- Can anyone recommend an over the counter sleeping pill?
A completely medication free solution that I've proved will work every time. It takes a bit of practice at first, for some folks, but it's well worth persisting with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5dE25ANU0k- Noise
Yes you're right there. I lived in China for a year and the noisiest place in the world outside Cape Canaveral during a launch has to be a Chinese restaurant in the evening. I've never any other race who can eat, drink, shout and smoke all at the same time.- UK pension delay?
