  1. Try Africa some some comparisons. How many people in Thailand require food aid?
  2. I'm not confused about the satellite, just your confusing earlier post. 'With the AstroBus-S satellite, Thailand is joining a small circle of nations with sovereign access to very high-resolution geostrategic information'. https://www.eoportal.org/satellite-missions/theos-2#overview AFAIK it's their country, their money and they obviously think that it's a worthwhile investment. More power to them.
  3. We had a ceiling installed and the walls lined with plasterboard which creates a cavity wall. Fitted UPVC windows and medium sized A/C unit. It still very hot when not in use but it cools very quickly as soon as we switch on the A/C. I use it as my exercise studio, my wife has her prayer niche up there and it serves as a guest room when we have sleepovers.
  4. This should settle it: https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40021975
  5. Some folks just don't get rhetorical questions do they.
  6. My understanding is that you do not become a monk. You would be regarded as a novice on a short retreat, albeit you would be expected to behave like a monk. So I don't see that, providing your wife is supportive, that this should have any impact your immigration status. Besides, who is going to know?
  7. and no doubt muttered 'good riddance' (in Thai of course)
  8. Try reading the full article. It explains what it will do. And why shouldn't Thais be able to operate it? They've been operating their previous satellite, Thaichote, since 2008.
  9. What are you on about? The Wikipedia link BTW is useless, leaving me even more confused.
  10. No it isn't. The satellite was built in the UK and then shipped to Sri Racha, Thailand where the technical payload was built and installed by Thai engineers, https://www.eoportal.org/satellite-missions/theos-2#spacecraft
  11. Absolutely spot on @Jelli. I've been doing my own marriage extensions using the income method for the last 7 years. We've had a couple of hic-ups along the way, but our friendly and cooperative IO has always helped us to sort out these issues without any drama. And just this week we went down to Sakon Nakhon to do number 8 and it went without a hitch. In and out in 45 minutes. I always cringe when I read, yet again, 'use an agent'.
  12. Thanks for sharing this tale. It's heartening to know that there are people out there who care.
  13. Well, there are exceptions to every rule and I did say 'cooperative partner or friend'. Who was taking care of him may I ask?
  14. An agent is not necessary for a disabled person, providing they have a cooperative partner or friend. My (now deceased) German neighbour was an amputee and could not attend the office in person. His wife did 2 extensions for him and they were very cooperative and helpful. Read the second page of a TM7. (see attached) New TM7.pdf
  15. Yup, same here. Submitted my report at 12:38pm yesterday and got the approval at 4:46pm. It's not always that quick, but I've never been let down yet since this new system came on-line.
  16. That's a cool one. Your acquaintances are so concerned about the standard of Thais drivers that get, ahem, a Thai driver to ferry them about. I'm still trying to figure out the logic of that. Besides, what's that got to do with motorcycling?
  17. So I'm guessing that you have been over taxed for 10 years or more. How come you have left it for so long? You can sort it out quite easily if you have an on-line account with HMRC, but I believe that you can only go back 5 years. Let me know if you are registered and I can walk you through the procedure. Been there and done it.
  18. 'All's well that ends well', as they say. I understand where you're coming from. To get your tax code changed year on year is easy. To get HMRC to accept that your state pension is a fixed sum is different matter. I think it was 3 years before I finally achieved that.
  19. If you have an on-line account it is a very simple matter to have this problem corrected. So are you registered for an on-line account?
  20. According to your profile @mikek you're staying in Bangkok. If that is correct, why waste your money on an agent when the renewal service, VFS, is right there on your doorstep? Ah, I've just spotted that you used the Phuket forum, so I'm guessing your profile is out of date. However same comment applies, providing the Phuket office handle UK passport renewals.
  21. That's up to them. I'm quite comfortable with it. I've been doing on-line purchasing with various entities for 20 years or more now and never had a problem.
  22. No I simply registered my debit card as my preferred payment method.
  23. I always pay by debit card against my Krungrsi account and it too is just a 'one click' process. And yes, refunds are straightforward and go back into my bank account.
  24. There aren't that many posters around that manage to 'score' double digit 'sad' emojis @Gottfrid, but you made with this utterly contemptible post of yours!
  25. Two sessions of Qigong (similar to Tai Chi Chuan) per day, morning and evening. One hour's walk (7,000 steps) per day, weather permitting, or 30 minutes on my elliptical trainer. (sometime both) Eat healthy, balanced diet. Eschew alcohol other than a daily double whisky. No dieting but still lost 20kg in one year.
