  1. The high speed lines will be standard gauge. How else can a train run directly from Kunmin in China to Bangkok?
  2. Belt and braces eh. just in case.
  3. But you're still kicking I see. ????
  4. Has anyone ever come to grief, or have they ever heard of anyone coming to grief as a result of signing a document at immigration? Sign where they say 'sign', pay your money, get your stamp and then just get on with your life. Agent totally unnecessary @scottiejohn
  5. This is a very interesting article. Thanks for posting the link.
  6. My wife paid 4,000 for both car and motorcycle, including the tests and the licenses. That was in Udon Thani.
  7. Yes, we can all read the news thank you.
  8. It's probably a little 'over enthusiastic' when comes to shedding its fur when the hot season arrives.
  9. As your home country license has expired, you will have obtain your new license the Thai way by going through the whole procedure. You might find it more convenient to search out a driving school rather than an agent. Many are accredited to the DLT and can take you all the way through from lessons to driving test (theory and practical) and to finally issuing you your license at the DLT. They usually run courses over one week, full time. It takes away a lot of the hassle involved doing through the DLT, at a cost of course.
  10. We bought our A/C instore from Big C and they arranged for an engineer, at our cost of course, to deliver and install it. Have you checked to see if there is any cost advantage to buying on line @mike111?
  11. Thanks for the clarity, but I must add that I never assume when it comes to punctuation on this forum. You just have to look around you. ???? Not criticizing but your sentence reads as if it could be a question.
  12. Is this a question or a comment?
  13. Thanks for the tip on scheduling. I'll look into that.
  14. What can be even more convenient is to have my pensions paid directly to my Thai account without me having to do anything at all. Now that's what I call really convenient. And there is a purpose to this. I'm pushing 78 years and whilst right now I've got all my faculties fully functioning, one never knows when one might go into decline. What do we do if I cannot remember passwords or how to use the banking apps? I'm planning ahead now to make life as simple as possible for me and my wife, especially for her, just in case. I think the term is 'future proofing'.
  15. No they do not use SWIFT, Citicorp and Citibank use bulk currency buying to achieve favourable exchange rates and then pay the pensions out as a local bank credit in the same manner as Wise does. So better exchange rates and no receivers fee.
  16. Stop right now @Scouse123! Don't talk yourself into failure. 60 days is a great success and you should try and build on it, not be looking ahead and seeing 'bumps in the road'. I reduced drastically 7 years ago and now only have 1 whisky a day as my aperitif. I steadfastly but politely refuse alcohol at any other time. I cite health issues which is always a good card to play as we get older. And should anyone say that 'you look fit enough to me', your response is: 'that's because I don't drink'. Go for and good luck.
  17. Thanks for the tip, but I won't be using SWIFT. Pension payments from UK providers are paid via Citicorp or Citibank. I've received payments from them in past and know, for sure that there is no receivers fee. The rates and charges compare favorably with Wise.
  18. I like a peaceful life and a steady supply of good meals etc. so I don't criticize Mm. Moon, ever. Even though I freely acknowledge that she's not perfect. Afterall who is?
  19. I think that @Enoon in his reply to you above hit the nail on the head very nicely as far your 'point' goes.
  20. You can find a number of adverts on line for Forza rentals (and larger bikes) in Pattaya. Actually I don't know why folks are making such a big issue of the size and type of machine. This was obviously a low speed accident anyway.
  21. I repeat: 'You can kill yourself on any motorcycle, no matter what the make or model is'.
  22. The original article by Siam Rath is in Thai, So it's probably the result of an AI translator. Quaint isn't it.
  23. Thanks for that @Pib, that's just the kind of info I was looking for. ????
