Thailand’s casino odds looking up as House Committee wraps study

One might say "under a misapplication of the auspices of a constitutional monarchy."
-
"Constitutional monarchy, also known as limited monarchy, parliamentary monarchy or democratic monarchy, is a form of monarchy in which the monarch exercises their authority in accordance with a constitution and is not alone in making decisions." Wikipedia (my bold) Literally, the power (aka sovereignty) of the People is prescribed by a written constitution, ie., versus the sovereignty of an absolute monarch or an unelected committee. The constitution in turn defines the means for legal changes to the constitution and subsequently the foundation for changes to any penal codes in accordance to the sovereignty of the People. The sovereignty of the People may be a parliamentary form of government (ie., Thailand National Legislative Assembly, German Bundestag, Japan National Diet, United Kingdom Parliament). Thus, if the sovereignty of the People is abrogated by means outside of the constitution, would that not be an overthrow of the People's sovereignty? By such analysis, might one in the present case accuse the Election Commission of attempting to abrogate the sovereignty of the Thai People, and likewise if the CC sustains the EC complaint? Where does PM Srettha Thavisin stand on EC's complaint?

In English "belief" is not FACT, only a "feeling sure that someone or something exists." As in Santa Claus.

He promised more trade to boost GDP growth and at least he's putting in the effort personally. Hopefully the Paris trip will lead to another FTA that typically includes Thai EXPORTS of both Goods and Services as well as foreign imports. In the short run, FTA's are more valuable in the short term than long term infrastructure projects favored by former PM Prayut with regard to GDP growth and middle class income trap.

Tourists capturing marine life for social media face legal action

I fear for some of the divers. They are not using Scuba nor snorkel gear, have no dive vest. It appears they are using a single hose with small mouth regulator(?). Picture shows 4-5 divers using long tubes for air - back into the boat air pump(s) / where is air coming from at what pressure? How is air pressure regulated above surface, free from engine fumes, kinks? In a picture background there are several divers in full Scuba gear - no issue there but is there a qualified, permitted dive master overseeing the dive? I bet not. -
Thailand’s population to halve in 60 years, warns deputy PM
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Nothing if planned for it. "Population Decline Will Change the World for the Better," May 4, 2023 https://www.scientificamerican.com "Shifting to a model based on degrowth and equity alongside lower fertility rates will help fight climate change and increase wealth and well-being immigration can help soften some of the demographic blows by bringing younger people into aging countries. managing consumption, prioritizing social and environmental welfare over profits, valuing cooperation and recognizing the need for a range of community-driven solutions However, a State with a tightly controlled nationalism may lose some of its character, or as it's called in Thailand -"thainess." -

If the pathway is deemed a public right-of-way, it should be the responsibility of the Province to assure safe public use. Whether that ROW must be a 24-hour ROW vs daylight only can be questioned. -
Will Bangkok’s mission to clear footpaths ruin street-food paradise?
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Yes that can be a problem but the photo doesn't show that issue. Vendors are not setup on the sidewalk or footpath but likely on a property owners' setback area adjacent to the public sidewalk right-of-way and probably pay rent to setup. -

6 billion baht Ashton Asoke condo in Bangkok to be demolished

For other coverage see "The latest on the Ashton Asoke Condo saga" https://investbangkokproperty.com "... the development does NOT need to be demolished due to the revocation of the construction permit. ... the company must identify a parcel of land with a minimum width of 12 meters, dedicated to providing access to Asoke Road." It appears that money is no object to acquire such access given that 87% or 668 of its units have already transferred to property owners. -

Swiss man who allegedly assaulted Thai doctor faces additional charges
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
It's not unusual for police to "pile on" additional charges to get an accused to plea bargain. But that's not the case here. The Swiss citizen lied about the attack knowingly captured on video, lied about being the villa owner, rejected low bail, rejected making an apology, showed no remorse for his attack, and chose jail instead. He wants to go "hard" and the authorities appear to meet his challenge in return. Likely more charges will be brought regardless of whether they are fully investigated, coming with 10 to 20 years jail. Thai authorities do seem to prefer confessions. It will be interesting to see how supportive the Swiss embassy will be in his defence instead of just having him quickly deported. -

Japan to consider increase in import quota for Hom Thong bananas
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand low-value bananas exports for import of Japanese high-value autos. That's why Japan's GDP per Capita is (2022) about $34,000 vs Thailand at about $7,000.
