Thailand’s EGAT targets biomass, hydrogen to cut CO2 emissions
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
PLAN C or D? What happened to this previous solution? "CU and EGAT jointly study conversion of CO2 released from power plants into methanol" 27 March 2023 https://www.egat.co.th "On March 24, 2023, Mr. Nitus Voraphonpiput, EGAT Deputy Governor – Fuel, and Dr. Supichai Tangjaitrong, Managing Director of Chula Unisearch, witnessed the signing ceremony of research and innovation fund agreement for the “Study of Direct Hydrogenation of CO2 to Methanol for decarbonization from flue gas of power plant” -
NESDC adjusts Thailand’s GDP growth projections for 2023 and 2024
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's in the article. "... public consumption saw a contraction of 4.6% in comparison to 2022, caused by a delay in the disbursement of the fiscal 2023 budget due to the general election. Exports of goods and services of goods and services expanded by 2.1% (2023), a decrease from 6.1% in 2022... Private investment and consumption are expected to expand by 3.5% and 3%, respectively (in 2024)." In other words while GDP sectors for 2023 were generally favorable compared to 2022, the projected increases and decreases for various GDP sectors in 2024 will not even get Thailand back to 2022 levels of the economy. Focus on increasing tourism for 2024 is a political distraction and a miss on critical major GDP sectors that make up I think about 80% of total GDP. -

Thai security academic calls for transparency in government assets
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"easily"? How would he know if not all assets are revealed? I understand that military bases may have contracts with civilians for various on-base services such as tailoring. I also believe for example that the military directly owns natural resources such as forests (see Doi Suthep forested area near Chiang Mai) and minerals. Also the military has a practice to buy high-cost military equipment such as a submarine with a down-payment and multi-year annual installment payments that are treated as Treasury Obligations (not reviewable). -
He was charged with making a false statement to the FBI while a confidential source for the FBI and for creating false and fictitious statements on a FBI Form 1023. If he had made his accusations verbally in public as a private citizen without association with the FBI, it's likely under the First Amendment he couldn't be charged. But then the House GOP wouldn't have any highly credible "evidence," namely the FBI Form.

Parties or their members are behind political conflicts – NIDA Poll
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As opposed to authoritarian regimes like Communist China where the only political conflict is within the only party allowed to exist. Political conflict is characteristic of a democratic system that welcomes open and nonviolent political engagement of opposing political ideologies. The electorate (the People) can then judge freely their agreement or disagreement to the various ideologies that aids them in how they vote in elections. Repeatedly in Thailand, it's my impression that the military and pro-military establishment in particular sees open political debate as an evil that diminishes the reputation of the nation. And thus suppresses open debate of opinions. -
Drunk driver kills traffic officer in hit-and-run on Rama 4 Road

Read the link. The officer was doing a check as with another vehicle likely exposed near the road and was hit by the speeding car. There is no mention that he stepped out deliberately in front of the speeding auto to stop it. -
Thaksin freed on parole and returns to Ban Chan Song La residence
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
All this daily free attention on Thaksin is free political exposure that can't be bought. In fact if it was, it would probsbly be illegal. By his presence now in Thailand he has become a majority of one. -

Also to describe one's nationality. To that end if a Pakistani has dual citizenship, ie., Syria, he might be called Syrian. Most modern-day Syrians are described as Levantine Arabs. (Wikipedia) So might he be called "Arabic?" Pakistani has dual nationality with 21 countries including Syria, Bahrain, Jordan and Egypt but not with Saudia Arabia, Iraq or Iran. https://dip.gov.pk/immigration/dual_nationality.php -
Thai delegation, BRN hope to clinch peace deal by year-end
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If a peace plan is agreed, specific milestones are achieved and final approval in a referendum solely by Malay Muslims, international recognition of such result should be highlighted as a success by the international community. Perhaps a Nobel Peace Prize? -
Thai delegation, BRN hope to clinch peace deal by year-end
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That was not the typical case. Malay Muslims were a 95% majority indigenious people in a sovereign Kingdom of their own making. But Thailand crossed their border to subjugate that country and annexed it by force into the Kingdom of Siam/Thailand. -

Cabinet meeting to discuss constitutional amendment referendum parameters
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How would that be enforced? The 2007 Constitution in effect forbid a coup as a method to legally change governments. Provisions stated in a constitution constitutes law. But in 2014 the NCPO coup simply abolished that constitution and apointed itself as the new government in compliance with a new constitution that it wrote. -
The problem is that the Senate wants the government to address why the digital wallet scheme would not break the law (vote buying ) and "whether there existed an economic crisis to warrant the 500 billion baht borrowing needed to fund the scheme. Feb. 16, 2024 https://www.nationthailand.com Dissolving the House and holding a new election won't resolve the Senate issues. However, the Senate might overlook its issues with the right PM candidate. What is Gen. Prawit's position?

With Thaksin On Parole, Thailand Might Be Run By Two Prime Ministers
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There are two possible places for Thaksin in the Thavison government without chzllenging or replacing PM Thavisin: assignment to the Office of the PM and Deputy PM. Either keeps Thaskin in mainstream Thai politics without being elected.
