During PM Prayut's regime he instituted use of palm oil to be used in power generation with the goal of artificially maintaining high palm oil prices in Thailand. Not carbon neutral. Two-thirds of Thailand's power generation uses natural gas both domestic and imported. It currently has 27 coal power plants. Existing fossil fuel plants must be decommissioned to achieve maximum benefit. The National Energy Plan of August 2021 sets goals and action plans for achieving net carbon neutrality by 2070.
