  1. There might be a scenario wherein the army might try to recruit Thaksin as a populist political counter balance to Move Forward as a feigned progressive government. Just a question of rewards?
  2. Maybe one in this listing? "Best Exotic Animals Stores Bangkok Near Me" https://www.forbangkoklovers.com/en/best/exotic-animals-stores-bangkok
  3. Doom and gloom not there yet. Sorry. "Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes no match for the Rockettes," Feb. 13, 2024 www.washingtonpost.com "As a percentage of disposable income, debt service payments are no larger than they were when the Fed began raising rates and are still slightly lower than on the eve of the pandemic." Many consumers and businesses today are less sensitive to higher rates than in the past, thanks in part to the pandemic's legacy."
  4. Irrelevant. Important rules to remember: This insurance won't help if the accident was the tourist's fault (like if they were breaking the law).
  5. Maybe indirectly Thai Airways lost its focus on passenger service with its non-core businesses such as restaurants and catering business. Thai Airways Launches Cabin-Like Cafe Selling Flight Meals - by Khaosod English - September 2, 2020
  6. 7. Again perhaps a journalist failure - lack of investigation "Law to prevent violent reoffenders with ankle monitor" by Neill Fronde, Published: 23 January 2023 https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/law-to-prevent-violent-reoffenders-with-ankle-monitor In 2023 (?) a new law was prompted by the reoffending of infamous serial killer Somkid Pumpuang, known as “Jack the Ripper of Thailand.” The law allows for a ministry-appointed committee to determine if parolees should be required to wear EM ankle bracelets. They can be given the tracking device for up to 10 years. But Three categories of criminals would be considered for this new programme, depending on the crimes that they committed: (1) People who kidnap for ransom or unlawfully detain someone against their will; (2) People who commit violent crimes and (3) People who are arrested for acts of sexual violence. Thaksin obviously does NOT fall into any of the three categories. Hence no legal grounds for an ankle bracelet.
  8. Before the military "ran him out of the country" he was all in with the military, especially with the Southern Provincial insurrection. Id say that it's more accurate that the Royalists-Elites (aka Deep State) ran him out as he discovered how to mobilize the electorate that threatens to turn the government into a more progressive state and give him greater power.
  9. To be fair Thailand may be affected inadvertently by the Russian-Ukraine war, the Israeli-Iran-Syrian, various African and Japan-Russia "conflicts" that are redirecting much Western and international discretional funding. And I suspect Thailand acting at times now like an anti-democratic country with close relationships with China, North Korea and Russia doesn't get it far in the line for international funding priority.
  10. The 2014 coup placed the military in charge into mid-2023 and the current minority government wears the taint of military control by its partnership with the military to block control by the elected majority party. Military influenced Senate, Election Commission and Constitutional Court cannot be said to be progressive to the extend found in Western democracies. So yes, likely in part to be the reason.
  11. Should be "the agency affirmed that the fund's situation is potentially manageable."? Something has to change for a different result. Maybe rather than rushing to spot fuel subsidies for the public, invest in more reliable fuel sources that are not as price volatile. Particularly it seems during PM Prayut's 8-year regime there was a propensity to purchase fuel on the spot market rather than long term contracts. Kind of like "day trading stocks."
  12. Sandbag revetment was used at northern Pattaya beach, Chonburi province. One of the advantages of sandbag revetment is that, unlike rock revetment, it still provides an easy access way for people to walk across the beach area and the sea. Not slippery when wet. Cheap and safe but not very artistic. Does the government need people to slip on the concrete slabs and suffer grave injury to rethink the slabs?
  13. .... the predictability of lightning.
  14. A good start but much more needs to be done for the MAJORITY of the debtors. Cases successfully mediated amounts to only 15% of total debtors. Importantly, the government seems to have developed a good model for getting (in general) debtors to mediation. But more needs to be done to get debtors into the model criteria so that they can be documented and eligible for mediation. Also need to find a process that ensures the current number of debtors doesn't increase as resolutions are accomplished. Otherwise, unaddressed debt becomes a "Never Ending Story."
  15. From Reuters headline "Thai journalists arrested for news coverage of anarchist graffiti on temple" February 13, 2024: "Two Thai journalists have been arrested for their story about an activist spray painting an anarchist symbol and a symbol critical of "lese majeste" laws on a Bangkok temple wall" (my bold) Unless the reporters had prior knowledge of a plan to create subject graffiti that would make them complicit, they should actually become witnesses to the defacement for prosecution of those involved in the actual defacement. The underlying charge isn't about freedom of speech, it's about "causing damage to a historic site and vandalising a wall in a public place." Seems news worthy to report. But I suspect that Nattaphol Meksobhon, being a reporter from the independent online news outlet Prachatai that often criticizes authoritarian governance, was too easy a target for political retribution.
  16. If Thaskin was wise (not to be confused with smart), he could let Srettha assume the role of a "cut-out" for Thaksin to continue as PM while Thaskin avoids direct political confrontation.
  17. Successfully asking: Biden's campaign ended the year 2023 with $46 million in cash, far more than the $33 million Trump's campaign held before the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. Future Forward, the main super PAC backing Biden, held a little bit more in the bank than MAGA Inc., $24 million to $23.3 million, at the end of the year.
  18. What do you call a crane standing on one leg? Roosting.
  19. You think FTI missed the "boat" several times when Chinese owned Alibaba acquired a majority stake in Lazada in 2016 after buying 500 million USD worth of new shares and a further 500 million USD in existing shares. Alibaba then increased its stake from 50% to 83% in 2017, after which Lazada received no further investment until 2022. With Alibaba's participation, Lazada made available in 2017 some 400,000 items sourced direct from China. Chinese Jack Ma Yun is the co-founder of Alibaba Group and member of the CCP Politburo. If Thai SME's want to sell in China, there's Alibaba's TMall.com.
  20. Warning! Military Coup in Process. Shelter in Place until further notice. Thailand military coups occur more often than tsunamis.
  21. For a fee isn't it? Like the military gun ranges that are "open to the public" as if they were private enterprises, albeit not under control of the government but directly under control of the military as if the military command was a separate sovereign entity.
  22. aka mercenary or paramilitary. Seems to be a favorite for ISOC in the Southern insurrgent provinces for conducting patrols while the army stays in the safety of its military bases.
  23. Seat belts would only prevent escape from the bus through "scatterization. " I hope the students enjoyed the free, unplanned thrill ride.
