  1. Ever heard the phrases "Rip off Britain" or "Treasure Island"? Can't see the Thais allowing energy costs to spiral when they have plenty of gas in the Gulf of Thailand. Many in the UK were sold a lie of 100% green energy so they signed up to these energy contracts only to find that their costs increased by same amount - despite wind and solar not going up in price! Britain is a sorry place right now, no wonder so many of us would rather be in Thailand.
  2. My recent experiences this month (general A-B and heading home after a night out in Sukhumvit) are that the Taxis are trying to make up for lost revenue over the pandemic now that demand is higher. I agree that they need higher meter fares, but with that should come sanctions and penalties if reported for refusing fares or trying the "No meter" B.S.
  3. Wide range of estimated earnings. He's had over 2 million video views but few subscribers at just 11K. Source: https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCG1EZotLKYl0p_Xm6JIJG4Q Seems like he needs a work permit if working and earning in Thailand ????
  4. His real crime was being seen to be successful and investing properly in an attractive hair salon. Jealous "concerned citizens" read "lazy competitors" were his downfall. Amazing he got away with it for one year before they dobbed him in. Maybe only as now things are busier. Amazing Thailand!
  5. If clever, the authorities would have left the package in the system until delivered to recipient then make arrests. Could have lead to busting a big drugs ring as unlikely to be the first consignment. But then, the recipient might have been influential or protected. Meanwhile, others get seriously busted for failing a pee test in a nightclub.
  6. China don't want leases. They want and expect outright ownership!
  7. Newsflash! Prices at some Isaan restaurants have just doubled or tripled and no chance of getting a table for months...
  8. I would say that transferring ownership of land/property to a minor child (less than 18/20yrs) in many countries would not be allowed by local authorities. It can be seen here in Thailand as a way of circumventing ownership by foreigner laws. If to an adult son or daughter, then there should be no restrictions IMO.
  9. Watched the game last night via laptop plugged into big TV with HDMI cable. Used my UK VPN and iPlayer. Buffered just twice in 2 hours. Very happy ????
  10. OP: @DrPhibes What did the school answer when you asked them why they have this requirement?
  11. Good news on the performance forecast. Would like to know how they are measuring unemployment. Think of a number? Or more scientific?
  12. Why not just issue court proceedings? That's over a Billion US Dollars so not a small amount. No doubt hungry lawyers would be keen to generate some fees revenue from costs awarded.
  13. Under no circumstances get stamped out before you have a re-entry permit!
  14. Gave up on Bolt (in Bangkok and London) earlier this year. Either very long wait times or no drivers accepting bookings. Suspect they don't reward the drivers enough. Now using Grab again here in Bangkok and no need for cash as all charges made to my credit card.
  15. These idiot officials sound like those at the local Amphur office in a southern province. Told us our half Thai son could not go on the blue house book because "he's not Thai". Despite him having a Thai birth certificate and a Thai passport. Dodos.
  16. Where do you get that from? Internet and power grid here in Thailand is generally very reliable (except when some bozo truck driver takes down a power pole as happened in our soi last Sunday). The MEA had a new pole installed in a few hours and 3BB were still working at 7pm to splice in new fibre optic lines to all the street by end of the night.
  17. Not surprised to see all the cheap shots at Thailand when it comes to safely running nuclear power generation. Thailand has fairly good industrial standards when it comes to things such as aviation safety so why not power? The current grid system is fairly reliable too - not heard talk of brownouts or blackouts here, unlike California in the USA for example. Even India and Pakistan have existing nuclear power generating stations - how many disasters there? The new nuclear SMRs are potentially game changing in cost, safety and scalability. They appear to be ideal for countries such as Thailand. The US projects and that by Rolls Royce in the UK, look promising. The likes of Chernobyl and Fukushima were old technology and are not being replicated in the safer new designs. From Wikipedia: Nuclear Main article: Nuclear power in Thailand Thailand has no nuclear power plants. Earlier plans to produce five gigawatts of electricity by 2025 using nuclear technology were scaled back to 2 GW in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster.[12] As memories of Fukushima recede, interest in nuclear power has revived. Seven ASEAN nations, including Thailand, have signed cooperation agreements with Rosatom, Russia's state nuclear energy agency. EGAT is working with China, Japan, and South Korea on nuclear power generation technology and has sent 100 specialists to train for nuclear power plant projects. EGAT plans for up to five percent of the country's power generation to be generated from nuclear by 2036.[13]
  18. They only offer affirmations on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The appointment slot availability grid is a bit misleading and should highlight this. I went last week for address affirmation for driving licence. Had no trouble booking in advance (and changing dates due to changed travel plans). Just looked now and appointments were available for less than 4 weeks ahead (13th December availability). Suggest that you book at earliest for the most likely date needed. The new offices are very nice, staff helpful and professional. Easy to get to as the building is connected to BTS Saint Louis by sky bridge walkway. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.
  19. You've probably left it too late late to find a reasonable hotel in Pataya for 25th or 26th November. Unless you're prepared to pay inflated prices (Hilton was 13,000 Baht/Night when I was looking last week) you may have to look as far as Jomtien or NaKlua.
  20. Tasty meat from Sakhon Nakhon. Bet they woofed it down!
  21. Stay central and walk. It will be gridlock all around.
  22. The initial airline is your enemy. Good luck on a one way without non immigrant visa. Thai Airways best bet.
  23. Me thinks someone's enjoyed the dispensary too much. Entertaining reading though.
