  1. Interesting analysis. Only ever been to Nong Khai. Would like to visit the other places and see for myself.
  2. IMO crazy to buy anything other than Toyota or Isuzu truck in Thailand. You need back-up and service.
  3. Great trip to Pai in October 2020. Bros no hoes. Fantastic and no drama! DJI_0571.MP4
  4. Some interesting coffee shops to stop at....
  5. Ignore mellow. More like Yee Haaa!
  6. Friend of mine is of Greek origin (an Aussie) and just visited family in Greece. He was much happier to spend a month in Thailand after his visit to Greece. To solve the issue of Thais having to apply for Schengen visas maybe it could work better in reverse whereby the Greeks get extra easy visa exempt access to Thailand and using the Greek national carrier (rather than Thai Airways). Surely, as Thailand is such a wonderful place there will be a flood of quality European tourists from the Hellenic Republic? No mention of where The Governor of the Tourism Organization of Thailand, Yuthasak Supasorn, attended a meeting with the General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Olympia Anastasopoulou, with the aim of reviving tourism cooperation between both territories. Was it a free junket to or from Greece or was it in his office in Thailand? And, is that "Tourism Organization of Thailand" or "Tourism Authority of Thailand" TOT or TAT?
  7. I had a tooth extraction in the UK in June this year. They gave me painkillers and antibiotics with instruction only to use them if infected and in pain. The course must be finished once started.
  8. The tropical monsoon rains and storms can be very localised. Even just a few KMs apart one place can be completely dry and the other place totally flooded.
  9. Thanks. I looked at the options from other Siam Rent and prices were about same as hiring a commuter van with driver including fuel etc. Whilst researching further I came across www.thaitransfers.com who have now quoted me very favourable rates for the whole trip. We will go with them as it saves me the hassle of driving and parking etc. I've posted their quote response below. Bear in mind that there are two days of no use however we would still have had to pay car hire for those two days. Will try to update here after the trip in case it's useful for anyone else. >> Hi, I need to rent a van with driver for my family. We are 7 passengers. >> >> 22nd October - BKK Airport to Phaholyothin Soi 3, Phaya Thai and then >> afternoon city sightseeing > Transfer by minivan airport - hotel 900 Baht, rent minivan for Bangkok > dowtown tour 2400 Baht for 9hours >> 23rd October - Phaya Thai to Samut Songkhram and return to Phaya Thai > Rent minivan for 9 hours 2800 Baht >> 24th October - No transport >> 25th October - Phaya Thai to Kirimaya, Pak Chong, Khao Yai > Transfer by minivan one way 3300 Baht >> 26th October - Khao Yai National Park sightseeing > Rent minivan for 9 hours tour around park 2800 Baht >> 27th October - Khao Yai to Ban Pe Pier, Rayong > Transfer from Khao Yai to port 6400 Baht >> 28th October - No transport >> 29th October - Ban Pe Pier Rayong to Pattaya > Transfer from port to Pattaya 2400 Baht >> 30th October - Pattaya local sightseeing > Pattaya city tour by minivan 9 hours 2900 Baht >> 31st October - Transfer from Pattaya to BKK airport > Transfer from Pattaya to Bangkok airport 1800 Baht > > When transfer include costs petrol, expressway, minivan with driver > > When tour include price minivan with driver, petrol, time for rent 9 > hours
  10. I need to rent a 7 passenger minivan/MPV in Bangkok from 22nd to 31st October. The nearest suitable vehicle I can find from the rental agencies is a Toyota Fortuner with 2 very small fold down seats in the rear. This is not suitable as we need 7 adults and baggage. I tried Europcar, Avis, Hertz and online brokers with no joy. Does anyone here know where I might rent something susch as an Alphard or similar? Any help very much appreciated.
  11. During the Icelandic Volcanic Ash Cloud closing western European airspace back in 2010, my wife, son and I were "trapped in Thailand" for an extra week at the end of our trip. Were we bothered? Hell no as it was the best and most relaxing part of the Easter/Songkhran holidays. Our airline added extra flights once airspace was reopened and got us back to the UK without further delay. That airline was Thai Airways. Excellent customer sevice. The guy in the story should learn to make the best of the situation and stop whining. There are worse places to be "trapped".
  12. Two friends and I had this random encounter just after we arrived in Arunothai on the Thai/Burma border in October 2020. There was a bit misunderstood in the noise of the road however the lady's English was amazing. She said Chinese town with Akha people. Would not admit as "hilltribe" maybe not appropriate. Either way, these ladies were fun and definitely not selling wooden frogs on KSR. We had a great evening and would love to re-visit.
  13. I was at Walking Street last Wednesday and nobody grabbed my @rse or anything else at 04:00am. Not even my GF as we stumbled home. No mention of the tourist's nationalaity from what I read so far.
  14. and soon 88 Pence Per KWH here in the UK. What was the cost to fry this unfortunate? That said, surely a non-fatal animal electric fence such as farmers use would have been sufficient. RIP
  15. Change your name and get a new passport. I know a Thai who has done that at least twice. Will the fingerprints on arrival be an issue? Not sure. Cheaper option than 800k to a shark lawyer IMO. Worth a try and you get to choose a new name ????
  16. PMQs today was so different. First day in office and all that but she didn't really have an answer for Starmer regarding Windfall taxes for the oil/gas companies. Seems like she has assembled a good team. Will it hold together and prevail or collapse? Only time will tell but I would like to see the country rise up for the good of the people in economic adversity.
  17. Agreed. By December, the Tory party membership will be begging Boris to come back. Unlikely he would though as he'll be probably be earning £££ millions elsewhere by then.
  18. I agree to a degree however often there is a lack of communication. It should never have come to this. Surely only write a bad review if the business owner refuses to remedy the situation by either replacing the dish or discounting it from the bill. I still own a business in London. Any hint of a genuine issue that could lead to a negative review then we will either correct it immediately or refund the customer in full. Quite simple really but the many Thai businesses don't understand customer satisfaction. Just look at Thai Credit Card receipts that always state "NO REFUND". Well, that changes when a chargeback is claimed by a foreign issuing bank. Just ask Thai Airways!
  19. Surely you meant they are being teenagers in a country for dinosaurs no? Looks like a fun place. I wonder if old farangs in their 50's allowed in? @BritManToo how was it?
  20. If using an iPhone then Airtags. If using Samsung then GalaxyTags. Buy from home on Amazon to save money, time and hassle. Galaxy tags "may" give better location finding as there are more Samsung users in Thailand than Apple users (so more likely and accurate location discovery).
  21. Just ensure you get a receipt for the deposit. It's not just places that have minibars. They want to make sure they get the room key back too. I've never had any problems with return of the deposit.
  22. Check our ARUNOTHAI some very lovely experiences up there. Quite amazing actually. Was there in October 2020 for their festival (lanterns etc.). Really friendly too.
  23. My ex-wife had a Thai credit card in year 2000 just before I met her. A "friend" of hers asked to borrow 20,000 Baht which she drew as a cash advance to lend to the friend. Surprise, surprise the so called friend never paid her back and disappeared. About 6 years later the debt collectors caught up with the ex on a visit to Thailand (we were then living in the UK) and we settled at a discount as by then she had acquired land. From how I see it; the Thais beleive that if anyone (banks or friends or family) has money to lend then they clearly don't need it and it never needs to be repaid. This could be why it is now quite difficult to get a credit card in Thailand (although a friendly bank manager can pull strings).
  24. I kept my DTAC prepaid SIM active from 2004 to 2020 and it sat on my desk in the UK most of that time. I needed it for receiving OTPs and for use when in Thailand. No cost to activate international roaming or for receiving SMS whilst overseas. I did receive the occasional call and cost was not too bad if kept short. Using it for outgoing calls or internet would have been expensive although nowadays they will sell an inclusive package which varies in price depending on regions or countries to be visited. Just need to ensure that roaming is active before departing Thailand.
