Do the various romanised pronunciation systems have names?
digbeth replied to Puccini's topic in Thai Language
On the spectrum between RTGS and ภาษาคาราโอเกะ transcription I doubt anyone should care what system is in use, road sign and official place names barely use them consistently -
Honda: Pattaya - what branch? [Forza 350, new]
digbeth replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
For a such in demand model, you'll be paying over the MSRP especially if you'll be paying cash instead of finance. Some out of town dealer around Bangkok that advertise online or sell the bikes online though Shopee and such might have some model lower than MSRP, they deliver, the delivery fee might be cheaper than what the local dealer are charging over MSRP As for servicing, They're supposed to accept service for all Hondas, but if you didn't buy from them, their schedule book could be 'full' whereas if you bought the bike from them they're more accommodating in fitting you in, plus in case of warranty claims that doesn't earn them any money. The worst case is that you have to go to Honda in Bangkok to get certain thing warranty work fixed if the local dealer isn't helpful. -
nope, Thai postcode is useless without street name, there can be same house numbers within the same postcode the slash are just subdivision of an old bigger plot of land or a room number in a condo, you can still have duplicate of house number

covid extension was available then, and they were quite lenient, I'm sure they could have worked something out if he turns up any time in 2020 asking for covid extension saying that he can't fly home then even with a few weeks overstay because he didn't jump at the first chance to fix his situation or didn't know better

Grand Centre Point Space is the hot thing amongst middle class Thais right now if you're into keeping up with the Somchais older resort-styled place like Centara Mirage or anything in Wong Amat is pretty family safe Even if you stick them all in the HIlton they'd only need to wander a few street to see where you've met their mother

they tried UK-styled gatso with white lines on the road about 10 years ago, but has now since moved to cctv styled gantry that can read the speeds of all lanes of traffic on the motorway, some will even warn you if you're over the limit by flashing your picture on the screen with speed on the gantry the older styled ones that still needs to flash are used all over the country, the cctv ones seem to be only on motorways or where they can place gantry the mobile ones with checkpoints down the road is your equivalent of mobile van, there'd be a plod in the central reservation or on overpass with the camera radioing your plate to their colleague down the road, with the prevalence of fake plate or people throwing away the tickets received in the mail, having the checkpoint nab you for payment right away is easiest this probably is a good earner for the local plod, plus being mobile mean they can be in multiple locations to keep the populace vigilant

they moved to the next Thai alphabet for that digit already, but agreed that the numbering sequence is weird, I'd have thought they'd exhaust the 2 thai alphabets behind the number first, but they had fixed the first letter at A from 1-9, only moving to B after the 9 was used up new cars now are at 1 or 2B, If it's the first alphabet that is changed least often then they should have put that in the leftmost like A9A-Z then B1A or whatever other way that would give a better indicator of age or corresponding year better than the current system

No Car Blue Book, Car Not In Your Name.
digbeth replied to pleple's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
the girlfriends don't even need to go to court, she could ask a friendly cop to accompany her to 'repossess' her car and keys after a breakup or whatever reason you can try to reclaim your car in court but all evidence is that you paid for the car in her name -
inspection is valid for a month, road tax can be paid from 90 days before the due date, so if you time it right, you can do the inspection 'MOT' 120 days before the date on the blue book, providing that you go and pay the road tax within 30 days after the inspection

Apple hasn't launched Apple Pay in Thailand yet The fact that Google has launched Google Pay and can add Thai credit cards to Google Wallet hasn't changed this fact So far only Thai credit cards can be added, no debit cards yet, but some pre-paid card that appears as credit cards like True Money will be able to be added soon

No Car Blue Book, Car Not In Your Name.
digbeth replied to pleple's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
you can keep paying road tax for the car if you have a photocopy of the blue book, if you haven't paid road taxes at all for 3+ years you'll need access to the blue book to get it legal again, and without up to date road tax on the windshield, your next police checkpoint could become awkward if the police ask for a copy of the bluebook and saw that it was not in your name, the car untaxed and uninsured. -
Why many bikes have no Green Book?
digbeth replied to canerandagio's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
for cheap Thai market bikes - could be from the owner doing a runner from the finance company, the bike was 'refinanced' or used as collateral by dodgy loan shark despite still not fully paid up with the finance company or just plain stolen As long as you know what you're buying and are not paying full legit price for it and can afford to have the be taken away at any point, could be good for village run around far away from the original owner's location, if you can supply a legit looking new plate for it, most police aren't gonna look too closely at cheap bikes, or even better just use it as parts bike if you have an identical bike with legit plate -
Mazda fuel pump is an issue for cars from around 2017 onwards, big recall worldwide but only years after the issue has surfaced
-
Fiesta powershift gear (also in later model of Focus available in Thailand) problem is unfixable, there were a big class action lawsuit Ford Thailand just extend the warranty another couple of years, by which if it fails again the customer is SOL Mazda 2 and 3 are essentially same enough without the problem bits (but plenty of problems of their own for fuel pumps and the diesel which is another can of worms)

Are you sure it was 'regular' plain milk with blue label for Meiji? I know they have a 'dry cow' problem for a while and supply of milk is spotty especially in larger sizes for restaurants, and they often have 'Barista Milk' or 'Lactose Free' milk that's usually 100+ baht in stead where that earns them more money
-
you should see what Foodmart in Jomtien charges, they seem to add 5-10 baht to milk for a long time Friendship is good value for 'grey import' items they seem to import themselves that you can't get at any other store

many hotels now has smoked in room cleaning fee now, so ask upon booking if they have smoking rooms available, i'm sure there are still seedy hotels that has smoking room with tar stained walls and curtain, the typical cleaning fee for smoking in the room is 3-6,000 baht, for that difference you could've booked a hotel with balcony

view from phra tamnak mountain is just as good as any of the highrise building on beach road, but it'll be at a slight angle and behind of the intended display, but firework is firework the main lookout on Pattaya sign and sor tor ror peak will crowded, but up the big buddha side there are some openings in the trees you can have a good look, plus along the jogging track but it does get secluded

yesterday BTS post a video moaning about the unpaid debt by BMA, looks like the current Bangkok administration realize they bit off more than they can chew when they had a look at what contract were signed between BMA and BTS even if they manage to nationalize and transfer control of green line to MRTA, BTS will still be around to operate the monorails, plus AERA1 contract for the Airport/High speed link is another 50 years. looks like Bangkok will have integrated operator a la transport for London when hell freezes over
