  1. That is not true. Often stated here and perhaps more true in certain areas. I was on Koh Chang and a kid on a motorbike coming in the opposite direction lost control on a curve. I saw him losing control and stopped hoping he would not hit me. But he ran right into my truck. There was never anyone saying that I was at fault. We did have to meet at the police station the next day and make statements. My insurance agent was there and met with the other family to discuss them paying for the damages. That was the last I ever heard of it.
  2. Bangkok hospital in Ratchaburi not very many of the doctors speak english fluently. Not even close to fluent. But this Bangkok hospital is cheaper than ones in other areas. I think when my wife had surgery there an ICU room was 12,000 baht per day. A far cry from what they are quoting in the article. My wife had a titanium plate put in her neck and the total bill was cheaper than what they are saying for about 2 days for him. What is confusing about the story, as someone else already mentioned, if a mosquito bit him on a ride in a taxi to the airport he would have been out of the country before he turned ill. And what's up with them saying 'rare mosquito bite'. It's quite a common occurrence.
  3. Can't Thaiger write an artlcle without all the extra hyperbole? And I am guessing this site has an agreement with Thaiger not to paste the whole article to be able to link to it here.
  4. Dealing with immigration and the Dept. of Land Transport are totally separate things. If I had the option to renew my drivers license for 900 baht without going to DLT I would take advantage of that. Seems like you are overreacting to a joke.
  5. When you do the 90 day report early occasionally you may end up doing 5 reports in a year. Not a big deal, specially if you do them online. Only takes a minute or two.
  6. I know people say here you can do it online up to the due date. Technically you can but that doesn't mean your immigration will accept/approve it. I once applied online 4 days before the due date. On the due date I received a rejection notice for it. So I went to the office, Ratchaburi, to do it in person and asked why it was rejected. The officer said I didn't give him enough time to process it and it must be done online 15 days before. So maybe some offices will accept it that close to the due date and some will not. I usually do it online 14-13 days before the due date with no problem.
  7. If it was found in their ceiling then it was not stolen.
  8. If you were paying 5,000 baht for a 3 month stay you should have automatically suspected a scam. As they say 'too good to be true'. You should have used a known booking site, like booking.com or agoda.
  9. 3 years old though. For instance The Dukes does not do buffets any more.
  10. I sometimes stop and give money to elderly people pushing carts down the road foraging for recyclables. I have had a few refuse the money.
  11. EV's emit more microplastics into the environment due to more tire wear from the extra weight and acceleration. https://www.earth.com/news/hidden-costs-electric-vehicle-tires-emit-20-more-pollution/
  12. I see restaurants in non-tourist areas that offer lamb dishes, lamb chops or rack of lamb. Often spelled as lamp on the menu.

  14. Just put in the new contract that they have to buy insurance. I don't know how much it would cost for a business. My house insurance costs about 5K/year. So not that expensive.
  15. rotten egg smell is caused by hydrogen sulfide. I get it in my outdoor hose reels. It goes away after a couple of minutes when the water is flushed from the hose.
  16. He died 5 days after the alleged assault. Symptoms he was complaining about could have been a heart attack.
  17. You could also try doing it through mail if you have enough time.
  18. She said it was dangerous because a foriegn man came up and asked her how she was doing. That's pretty silly.
  19. I just enjoy having a turkey dinner once in awhile. Nothing to do with religion. Humans would be better off without religions. Anyway thanksgiving is a harvest festival. Giving thanks for having enough food to make it through winter.
  20. The last 3 years I've gone to Chiangmai for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Once at Chiangmai smokehouse for their thanksgiving buffet. The rest at The Dukes. Dukes switched the last 2 years from a buffet to a set meal service. Still large portions though. 4 years ago I went to Bourbon Street Restaurant in Bangkok for their Thanksgiving and Christmas buffet meals. The year before that we did Thanksgiving at home. But a frozen Turkey costs over 3,000 baht. So I figure why not spend that and let someone else do all the work. I've considered trying some of the hotel holiday meals but they are quite abit more expensive.
  21. About 10 years ago I lost an ATM card in a machine. It was at an SCB branch. I went inside and told them. They were kind enough to close the machine down and open it up to check and retrieve the card for me. But it took awhile as they had to count down all the money in it when they opened it up.
