This year, in Ratchaburi, I had a problem with my 800K. For several years now it has been in a fixed account. The only thing I do is deposit 1K on the day I'm going to do my extension so Immigration can see an entry for that day. However this year, for the first time, the IO had a problem with it and did not want to give me my extension. She saw an entry where the bank rolls the money over after a year for another year with a new interest rate. She told me I had gone below the 400K that day and so could not qualify for my extension. It did show an entries that look like a withdrawal and then an immediate redeposit. I kept trying to tell her I had not taken any money out of the account for several years. She kept going on about it for several minutes. But then finally decided to call the bank, SCB. It took them awhile to get her to understand what the entries were. But she finally relented and gave me my extension. I think this year I'm going to exit the country and reenter to both facilitate putting the money into a normal savings account and killing off my O-A requirements for insurance.

US Charles Schwab Residency?
rwill replied to BKKKevin's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I believe Schwab would close your account if you told them your address is in Thailand. Schwab International is very good. But as mentioned you need 25K US dollars or the equivalent in stocks to open an account. With Schwab international you can use your Thai address and thai phone number Also getting money from an ATM or wiring money to a Thai bank is free. You do have to ask to get the ATM card, a separate form to fill out. -

Royal Galaxy Apologizes for Dumping Trash in Chao Phraya River
rwill replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Makes you wonder where all the garbage in Bangkok ends up. Anyway the river does look a lot cleaner nowadays compared to say 20 years ago. But I have seen a fleet of ships going up and down the river that skim garbage from it. Hopefully fixing their problem doesn't mean installing a roller blind so no one can see them dumping trash. -

Is it possible/ worth it to unglue fittings attached to blue piping?
rwill replied to BeastOfBodmin's topic in DIY Forum
I've seen them cut the fittings on both sides of the pipe and pry the fitting off. Just deep enough to cut the fitting and not the pipe. So they can be removed. -
Why on earth would you even consider paying tax in Thailand?
rwill replied to Robert_Smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I'm sure there are plenty of foreigners living in Thailand that don't ever use this forum. They most likely have never heard anything about having to pay tax on their overseas income and probably never will. -

Resurrect old bank account
rwill replied to Hikage's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If you have less than 2,000 baht in an account after 1 year of no activity they will start taking out 50 baht/month until all the money is gone. I was able to reopen an account I had not used in several years with no problem.
