  1. Getting the foreign currency/Thai Baht exchange rate to a suitable level might do a lot to encourage foreign tourists to choose travel to Thailand instead of Viet Nam, the Philippines and other countries where they get more for their money.
  2. Not sure but you may find that money in a brokerage account will not satisfy the income requirements as it is subject to losses. I also have the 10 yr LTR but at the time one of the requirements was to submit copies of your last 2 years IRS 1040 or1040 SR summary pages to confirm your income. That may have changed recently. As suggested, check out the BOI LTR website. It's easy enough to complete all necessary documents yourself and submit them through their website. Several advantages to have this, all shown on the website. You might check out what I believe is Blue Cross Global insurance.
  3. In some countries no tax is placed on food purchased for preparation at your home. A tax IS applied at restaurants for food prepared by the restaurant staff.
  4. Yes, Bangkok Bank does offer foreign currency accounts. I have one but even to withdraw money in its original foreign currency it must first be converted to THB and then from THB to the desired currency. I will make the assumption as this applies to all banks offering a foreign currency account. It is how the banks make a little money.
  5. In the product description below, it says all you need to know. It is for 125 VAC only, not 220 or 240. Do not use it unless you like smoke. The other more obvious clue is that there are no 2 PIN connectors as used in 220 VAC circuits/appliances. Protects household electronics from power surge with 900 Joules of surge protection 15A/125VAC/1875W, ETL certified
  6. Considering the airport name, no need to explain.
  7. Got behind one of these modified pickups recently at a traffic light. When the driver took off, the smoke was so thick it turned my automatic windshield wipers on. I had to back way off until the thick smoke thinned out some.
  8. Good effort but....... The first up and last down steps look like a fall zone. Handicap access??? And how many 100's of meters for anyone to walk to these mobile toilets.
  9. Come to Ban Chang where they have installed water dams across the walkway to keep water from their shop. Can't begin to count the number that have tripped on this with several having fallen and being injured.
  10. Make that initial fine 5,000 thb and they will think about it next time next time a rescue vehicle needs to pass. Very much agree with far more serious consequences if the patient dies while enroute after being delayed.
  11. Am no prude but this is disgusting. By the skin coloring I am assuming this was done by tourists. Such activities go well beyond reason, totally ignoring the cultural values of Thailand as it would be in many other countries. Fine, significant jail time and permanent ban from ever entering Thailand again would be appropriate.
  12. Hard video to watch. Am 85, living the life here but I went to public school in a suburb of Boston. In those days discipline in schools or anywhere was nothing like it is today. If you got in trouble in school, you were punished there and again when you got home. Seems like no matter the circumstance you were taught to respect everyone and especially your elders and people in positions of authority. Regarding the video, and an earlier question, the language being spoken is almost certainly Spanish as they are in a Las Cruces N.M. public school.
  13. Somewhat hard to tell for sure but these two look very much like the same two that earlier this week were in another serious altercation on Soi 6 in Pattaya. Seems at Pattaya one, the taller one and most aggressive ended up getting what he had coming to him.
  14. Someone finally came up with the real reason she was denied boarding her flight. Thank you! That fact should be pretty well known by anyone these days for international travel.
  15. I frequently make the trip between Rayong and Bangkok using the motorway. I typically travel with my speed control set at or just below the speed limit. And, I do not hog the high-speed lane, moving left once I have passed another vehicle. Yet I am very often passed like I was standing still by Mercedes, BMW's and other similar class vehicles. For the very first time this week I witnessed a highway patrol officer who was parked at the side actually speed out with his siren and lights on to stop a CRV type vehicle. Not sure of the reason as we were travelling at the same speed. Why does this never seem to happen with these hi-so vehicles? I believe it goes back to a basic cultural norm here not to be confrontational. Stopping a driver and confronting him or her telling them they were breaking the law or for many other possible reasons such as wandering between lanes would be against that norm.
  16. A few days ago his actions sent all market into a tailspin. His comments were that he did not care what happened in the markets. Now a total reversal in his approach. I must wonder how many of his cronies had any advance notice to watch his 'X' account. Like a bull in a china shop, never works out good. Damn the torpedo's...........
  17. My pet peeves are going into any store where the stores speakers are blaring with music or announcements. You can't even think of what you came to buy at that store in the first place. The second is the sound trucks used to advertise selling of vegetables or those running for political positions. For the latter, I live on the 19th floor of a condo with a small village 500+ meters away. The political advertising noise from the sound trucks comes through loud and clear to my balcony. Would be nice if the authorities took some action to lessen the volume permitted in any of these activities.
  18. What are you trying to buy?
  19. Did you miss this part? "crashed at a distance of 1 km from the shore"
  20. There are many financial organizations well prepared to prepare and file your Thai expat income taxes. In case you missed it (almost impossible) the process of filing and paying Thai income tax has been under development for very many months now. Suggest a little time reading up on this could be well spent. Many expats are already reporting their experiences with the TRD and companies processing their documents and filing them.
  21. Use the contact form on the BOI website. My experience is that an answer will be received within a very few hours and always the same day unless submitted late afternoon. Most likely it is for the full last 2 years. Also, no appointment is needed to visit their facility with your questions. Counselors will come and sit with you to provide any assistance needed. Overall, a very positive experience with BOI.
  22. Recommend Bangkok Nursing Home (BNH) on Convent Rd.
  23. Go to your phone service provider DTAC/True etc. and have them cancel that SIM card. They can issue a new one with the same number to use with a new phone.
  24. Your statement may not be entirely correct. If the Thailand tax due is greater than the amount paid in the USA, you will have to pay the difference to Thailand. Tax due in USA 15K, tax due in Thailand 20K, you pay Thailand the 5K difference.
