  1. give the story to the press both here and in your native country...publicity will affect the school and force them to maybe make the criminals pay
  2. Actually, doing the yearly extension requirement for ret-O in CM just became easier the last few years. Previously some folks even got in the queue-ticket line to get a queue ticketg for the same day by getting in line between midnight and 4:AM. Previously had to get an Embassy letter for validation of pension funds - not free either and had to make an appointment etc so with just getting the bank letters, the cost decreased too and didn't have to go to embassy/consulate at all. Just saying as it became much easier for me and I had been doing those extensions for 15 years before it got better.
  3. now he will have to pay with some jail time - bet he won't consider it a worthwhile CAREER in this way again
  4. some forum members have said that they visited their local RD office and were told that they have not held any discussions with BKK on this issue and I can only imagine when they are inundated with foreigners not speaking English or Thai asking if this or that is allowed or what needs to be done. I have some questions too and believe that they are pretty basic in following this new trend but just have to wait to see if the govt will or will not advise us soon.
  5. Yessir, penalize the victim yet let the rich skate and then when they do something really bad it is too late! Stop this type of activity immediately by kicking those kids responsisble out of school!
  6. Absolutely not! don't penalize the victim as they try to do here so often. Make the school terminate permanently those students responsible for this - yeah they prob have rich parents but unless someone doesn't stop this type of activity, it will probably only get worse. The press is your best bet it seems to me unless the school penalizes those responsible to your satisfaction!
  7. My daughter went to local schools for 5 years - that was more than enough for me so we opted for a new school - but that too only lasted one year due to poor management in my opinion so we then sent our daughter to CM international school. Too refreshing to even explain how our daughter's view of education became so strong. She graduated having learned (and even taught at other schools after class) 4 different languages, excelled in math without having to take any extra classes. She participated in extracurricular activities including sports and clubs. Great teachers and facilities. My opinion anyway based on our experience here. I have an older daughter that graduated from the International School Rome, having been in international schools in the PI, Thailand, Spain and Rome and the only problem students were usually rich locals attending in preparation to go to overseas colleges. Just saying. Yeah, seems we have too many English speakers that think they are still teachers of English and the readers are their students.
  8. I totally agree with this suggestion... go to the press get the school well known for this kind of crap! As mentioned, international schools here usually are more expensive that the universities here so no family should be subjected to this type of harassment. HS is rough enough mentally and to add this to it makes it even worse. If the school can't fix it then it should be closed!
  9. I am not sure about the 5-year visa bit as it allows two stays only of 180 days which is equal more or less to two Thai tax resident period and this is allowed in a 5-year period. Does it mean that you could extend for 360 days the first year and then could not come again unless under a different visa? for each of the next 4 years or could you just apply for another 5-year (1 year of 180+180 days) again? Just wondering
  10. according to the Thai law, one must have a Tax ID number to file an income tax form, but that law says one must get a tax id number once that person remits ASSESSABLE funds into Thailand. In theory if one does not remit assessable funds at all then they should not have to worry. However, if the banks or some other office is providing them with the amount remitted, the RD may require the expat to provide proof that the remitted funds are not assessable. We might see something on this prior to next calendar year, but then again we might not...just saying
  11. Suggest before making comments on a particular visa, one should actually read the benefits of that visa. sounds a bit like jealousy to me...and also the qualifications - not always the most wealthy.
  12. at the 5 year renewal time, the LTR holder will have to requalify showing the tax forms from his/her country in order to stay another 5 years...at the yearly visit (or agent) only informing the BOI of residence but there are other considerations to if one is a regular international traveler. Besides that, some LTR holders will be working in Thailand too and will in fact have to pay taxes on that salary.
  13. Even we folks that know (or believe) that we will have no assessable income might save some future time by visiting the local RD office, provide sufficient proof that we will not have assessable income in the future and have them note that for the foreseeable future. Just and idea.
  14. Actually, everywhere there has been a web interview including with RD person too, we have been told that DTA's will over ride the Thai tax law, if so, US social security is taxable ONLY by the US govt as is the US govt pension. Of course, I also realize that Thailand could drop all the DTA agreements and start from scratch but I believe that would happen at the same time as every expat in Thailand would disappear. my opinion only as I am still in the deep woods with everyone else concerning what the Thai govt will publish on this new interpretation IF ANYTHING and just go with what has been published and see what drops out of the woods come next January-March.
  15. Funny! I have had more than one account at Bangkok Bank for 20+ years...latest was 5 years ago as I had to have a self only acct for immigration and I get a 12-month statement issued by the main office as my acct is in CM. Never had a problem with that!
  16. yeah, I notice from US news that foreigners/immigrants keep begin refused entry of US military bases in different locations - nowhere near any of the borders even....accept it, Americans still have many more freedoms for everyone than many places.
  17. You mean like the start of this subject today and several folks repeating the same old messages over and over and yet we still are in the same situation we have been in since it all started! I sure don't know how you have been able to listen to so many repeats.....and repeats ...and repeats...
  18. and can travel around free of immigration police
  19. I think the Thai govt has spelled it out already, saying Jan1 until 31Dec of the same year.
  20. JUst like the message today at the beginning of this activity - you are just rehashing all of the same info that has been written here many times by many people. Sort of like all the questions about one's personal financial dealings continue to ask the same questions over and over...The info on DTA's has been available forever - and on this forum for many months telling exactly where it is, etc for all the different DTA's this on the US I myself have mentioned it many times as it is easily available for folks.
  21. I would think that any expat here would have already read any DTA with his/her country and Thailand, and that is why I think the message today is from the "tax agents" to get their name known by expats worried about filing their taxes for this year. Good luck to all
  22. Well if one remits money into Thailand and doesn't file for a Tax id or file for taxes, that person may be contacted by the RD to provide proof of why the funds are not assessible and then it is up to the remitting person to provide sufficient proof that the RD will accept, i.e. DTA, LTR, whatever else one may have that they will accept. This is my opinion anyway because I really don't know what the final documentation of the tax interpretation is going to be. Still waiting even though I realize I will not be affected unless the Thai govt goes overboard!
  23. so what misleading info did I passd on...I only mentioned what some forum members reported that they experienced when talking to RD in their local areas. I have written many notes here quoting the US DTA since many months ago . I read and understand the Thai language and I am well aware that nothing in this interpretation of the taxes remitted affects me and have written that too, so your complaint was not correct about anything in my note. You also didn't add anything that hasn't been mentioned in this forum for many months already.
  24. Mike, think that may actually happen depending on where one resides/or where on gets a ticket. I have talked to several folks in the not-too-distant past that indicate that in some districts, police are not so diligent nor have the means nor initiative (one or all three at the same time)
