Best Starting Salary for University grads
AgMech Cowboy replied to EVENKEEL's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Mahidol University is an excellent university. If off to a US university there are many scholarships available. Something to consider are ROTC scholarships, too. Get into an area like 'intelligence' (I know a oxymoron), supply, UAV specialist or AF or Space force missile ops and never have to deploy into a war zone. -
Best Starting Salary for University grads
AgMech Cowboy replied to EVENKEEL's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
@EVENKEEL As you've read from all the other post that's not an easy question to answer. (Gee time flies, when you look back...) When I was working at a Thai petroleum exploration company in 2007, we hired a Senior Accountant for baht 30,000. I was shocked at how low her salary was and from what I could tell she was good at her job. Ok, add 16 years since then and take a guess. Wages are pretty depressed here. I've tried to get my son to go to the US and work to earn money for his university tuition and the experience (you know skip a trimester or two), but he has been negative to that idea. He told me it's not worth it to skip a trimester to work in Thailand. (Will his Mother ever cut him off?) -
I really dislike Thai bashing. Similar type things happen in every culture. Maybe not the "exact" circumstance of Mom & Aunt borrowing money or the Thai gov not paying on time, but men and women have failed to pay back loans to their families since almost forever.

Southern Contestants Dump Own Parties To Help Prayut: Academic
AgMech Cowboy replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm sure that's why the pheu thai party will win. (BTW, that's soul. Not the same as the part of a foot or shoe, buddha forbid). -
@dinsdaleNo, this is "serial killer" used properly. If she'd have poisoned a whole bunch of people in one setting, then you could use "mass murderer". And in regard to "Joke". Although it spelled 'western style' as, joke, it's not actually pronounced the western way. It could also be spelled 'choke'. There is the discussion in transliteration of Thai whether to use a 'j' or 'ch'. A good example is Jatujak Market, which is located in Chatuchak, Bangkok. Got it?

Visa run crackdowns?
AgMech Cowboy replied to azt219's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
@DrJack54 In my past experience here, and I'm not going to argue the semantics. While true, the person who travels to the border to get a new visa exempt permit to stay sort of does a 'bounce', the actual "border bounce" is a term that was (is) used for those who already have a Non-O (or Non Immigrant visa requiring departures every 90 days) and only need to leave the country and return to get a new 90 day permit to stay stamp. See the person who is hoping to get another visa exemption may not be so lucky, so they ain't bouncing. IMHO So, "visa run"???? maybe short for Visa Exempt run. again IMHO Back on topic... I found it interesting the statement "I know many people have been doing visa runs for donkey years". How long you been here @azt219? Prior to the COVID panic, there were pretty established guidelines (still are on the borders) 2 visa exempts per calendar year (I believe), but I'm not an authority on that. DrJack54, BritTim and ubonjoe are the guys to ask about that. COVID's over, the old rules will be creeping back in. -
Da Whoppers she be telling when she gets on the stand. One can only hope the jury will be as unbiased as Anderson Cooper. (he wouldn't even go out and continued the interview from what I remember). This woman is trying to sell a book... and smear her ___t on President Trump. It didn't happen. (She probably tried to fleece him, he said 'no' and she said, I'll sue, etc...)

@Geir Rasch maybe you should listen to @OneMoreFarang. I'm not going to review all the charges of which he was convicted. Just one... He threw out a completely legal bid and reward of that bid for some prime property in the Ratchadapisek area. Shockingly, his wife won the rebid of the land parcel (and maybe for a lesser price, don't remember). Charged, Tried and Convicted. There were other charges. Thaksin made a bunch of noise about the 'political' convictions, but as the international community has actually had time to read the charges and results he doesn't get that much support anymore.

@dingdongrb Let me know if this works for you and which state. When I enquired in Texas to file for a dvrc 'we' needed to be living there for 6 months. In Colorado, I could file without her, but I needed to be there 6 weeks (I think it was). My circumstance is a bunch different than yours... My wife would like the divorce. I don't care, but if we 'really' pursued one, she wouldn't be happy, because she'd have to sell the house and split the 'settlement' with me. (I live in the house full time. She comes and goes). I could go for 1/2 the car and 1/2 the land we bought upcountry, too. So, even though you did not register the marriage here, your certificate from the USA is a legal document recognised by the Thai government. The Thai Embassies and Consulates are more than happy to accept the marriage certificate in English to issue a Non-O Immigrant visa. I'm not sure when it was started, but to get a one year extension based on marriage, I know the Marriage Certificate has to be translated. I do not know if you must register the marriage at the Ampoe (aka amphur). (The last part of the different circumstance... I will never steady date another woman (unless she's got money), but won't rule out a one or two night stand, but ain't carousing to do so, either). What it have heard about... You and your legally married wife can register the marriage at the Ampoe and divorce the same day (or the next). Then you're all free and clear marriage wise in Thailand (and the USA). Maybe I read that someplace... Maybe over at ThaiVisa when it was.

Feeling safe in your own home
AgMech Cowboy replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yes, I live in a 'very' secure village with actual functioning security (very high fences with barbed wire on top). Our guards do a good job, patrol regularly and requires a home owners sticker to get into the village (or you can leave your ID and get a 'pass'. "those in secluded farmhouses" have guns. And people know they have guns. And ain't afraid to use them. - I grew up in a secluded house outside a small town in Texas. We had guns, too. There was a respect because of this. (doesn't mean bad things didn't happen sometimes, but... - wouldn't want to live in a secluded house in Washington, New York, California, Australia, Canada or even England. No personal protection laws that I'm aware of. There are probably more break-ins at those Pattaya Townhomes and Condos than upcountry, because the thief figures he's not going to get shot. - I can't comment about the Philippines of North of Chiang Mai (except, they got guns in Thailand in the North) -

Singapore executes man for coordinating cannabis delivery
AgMech Cowboy replied to webfact's topic in World News
Sad to lose your life over that stuff. I think it's harsh, but it's the law and Singapore are very 'vocal' and informatively explicit about the penalties. It is quite the contrast to what's happening in Thailand. -

Only slightly related to your post, but 3 months ago I did a border bounce by air to Singapore. I received no stamps there, arriving or departing. At Bangkok Don Mueang airport the IO called me around to her side of the 'booth' to review pictures on her screen, which were very poor images of me. She had to ask me if that was indeed 'moi'. I confirmed, but only later realized they were taken in Singapore... I think.
