  1. Interesting discussion: I was told that the photo is an aid to help them identify you, which is why they don't want people to smile. They want a 'dead' face, which I would expound to include into the glasses question. You're probably not going to have glasses on when that motorcycle knocks you into the next world. That's how I 'look' at it. Added after post: "aid to help identify you" should you die (in your sleep, at the opera, on the back of a motorcycle taxi or at a crosswalk). Be safe "OneMoreFarang", I'd miss you. ????????
  2. Really... Interesting... I've never met a Thai "Doctor" who couldn't speak English. It's almost a requirement to get their medical degree.
  3. I feel your pain and frustration. I have trouble with balance on steps, also, and need only to touch something solid to steady me. I read the suggestion of a different route. I hope that was helpful. It is easy to learn the Thai phrase for "Excuse me" is "kho thot". You can google it to hear the proper pronunciation. I'd just reach over them to the rail and speak these words to them or stand there, speak "kho thot" and wait for them to move.
  4. Yes, I agree you are correct. MFP had a slim margin of having a majority of ministers, but in no way was it "the one people voted for". They had a chance to form the government, but their candidate didn't have all his ducks in a row. That's what happens in these type governments.
  5. No... Top of what?
  6. Innocent until proven guilty. (so many judges here)
  7. I know you pain...
  8. I disagree with this assessment. Thaksin did some things that were illegal and he was called on it. The only way he could be prosecuted was to take him out of power.
  9. I am SO SO tired of hearing the BS about "Democracy is at risk". When there is a coup, that's true, when you're voting and upholding a constitution, it's not. Even if you don't like the constitution. Democracy takes time to work correctly. YOU don't get what you want unless all the rules are followed.
  10. I recommend Dr. Somchai at Thaniya Dental Clinic in Thaniya Plaza. Afterwards, it's a great place to shop, especially if you play golf. Thaniya Dental Clinic is located in Thaniya Plaza Building which is the center of business area. Thaniya Dental Clinic provides a full range of dental care. 3rd floor, Thaniya Plaza Building, Zone Atrium, 52 Silom Road, Suriyawong, Bangrak, Bangkok 10500 Tel. 02-231-2124 , 089-813-6672
  11. Top Gun, Maverick
  12. You've still got a table afterwards???
  13. I got my Non O based on marriage from Savannakhet last August. I provided exactly what was on the list, nothing more nothing less. I use a marriage certificate from the US and it is not translated. It's as simple as the 90 day application, but you show on your application that you are applying from one (1) year and be prepared to pay them 5,000 baht. I wish that I would have held back my wife's passport copy because it has never been required in past, but I forgot... Good Luck. Have a good and safe trip.
  14. IMHO, you should just care for yourself and let the Thais care for themselves.
  15. I like that... A coup attempt with 1 or 2 guns. ???????? ???????? ???????? ???????? No armies, just a few flags and misguided people. Roused up by undercover feds. (and a few misguided wanted to be patriots)
  16. The wife gets half. End of story.
  17. No... It seems like a good idea, but it's just cancelling free speech. I don't like bad speech whether it be disparaging toward sex (one way or another), sexual identity, race or any other ..... Wait a minute, if you're playing rugby and the other team is made up of a bunch of w__ankers and _u__ys, is it bigotry to just call them like they are... ????????
  18. Then, ignore my comment above... I was talking about the rest of the world, not the police country of Australia where they bang up teenagers for having a beer at the beech with +$1,000 fines and drag pregnant women from their homes for trying to organize a protest. Yep, their customs and security folk can be pretty unreasonable.
  19. Now a days... You'll not have a problem other than the fact that you'll always get that extra bit of inspection after walking through the metal detector and if the guy in front wore his shoe and you followed suit, you'll be required to remove them and go through a second time. I have 2 hip replacements (2008 & 2018) and 1 knee (2007). I used to travel every month in or out. You tell them the situation, they won't care and will just 'wand you' after the metal detector. It takes 1 minute longer to go thru security. (maybe 2). (Sometimes the metal detector doesn't go off. SIngapore was the best) You don't need any letters or certificates. It's not complicated.
  20. Yes, it can easily take 2 weeks. They're government employees on both ends and have no incentive to 'get things done'. I sent a letter by EMS, to a Western country, which took 7 (or was it ???? days to arrive. Next time I needed to send something asap, which was a couple of weeks later, I sent it by DHL (3 days), and was floored when I discovered it was cheaper than EMS. I quit send letters by registered mail 2 years ago when I sent out a bunch (8 letters) on the same day. Half of them I sent registered. Some of the unregistered letters arrived before the registered ones.
  21. I hope everything goes your way on the process and Thai bureaucracy decisions (best of luck just doesn't cover my wish for your endeavor). Personally, I just couldn't see doing it (but I only worked 3-1/2 years and that was 20 years ago)...
