What Happens If There's a Tie in the US Presidential Election?

You are right. I am not a Trudeau fan, but he won the election and he is my Prime Minister. What countries follow a system like you prefer? -
What Happens If There's a Tie in the US Presidential Election?

Charming story. Yet reality is that very few countries, especially G7, use a direct vote for president. In Canada, for example, the party with the most votes in the last election did not win the election and form the government. -
Alternately; Joined the Marines, honored his full commitment, served in a combat zone. Weekend warrior for decades. Bailed when called to serve overseas.
-
Perhaps you could give that helpful tip to the Border Patrol. Alternately, just step on their foot. If THEY apologize, they are Canadian.
-
Oh God yes. They are the worst. Opening illegal poutine shops on every corner and refusing to speak 'merican. Send them back to snow country!

The First Nations fought, and lost. Such was life 3 centuries ago.

I agree, and frankly the Haitians should not be a priority in any deportations. First, start with people who are out of legal status, those who commit crimes. Then, on to single men and women, etc. But they do need to leave.

If there is a tie, Trump wins because he is taller than Harris. That's in the Constitution somewhere. -
Governor Walz Clarifies School Shooting Gaffe Following Debate
Hanaguma replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I have to agree that this really isn't such a big deal. He was nervous, and either poorly- or over-prepared for the debate. He was stumbling over his words and his memorized scripts on more than one occasion. I'm sure he meant to say "friends with the victims of school shooters" or something like that. Same as when he said, "I used to ride my bike with my friends until the streetlights came on. And I'm proud of that service". He mixed up a couple of talking points and what came out of his mouth was nonsense. -
I believe their status is temporary- not permanent. As such, along with the hundreds of thousands that the Biden/Harris team brought into the country, that status can be revoked. They don't have green cards. The rationale for deporting them is that they drive up the cost of housing, overload social services, etc.

Same in the general public. Research shows that Republicans tend to have more friends across party lines than Democrats. Most intolerant of differing political views were liberal women- no surprise there.
-
Nevery claimed a halo, they generally don't fit very well. Merely commenting on the general state of political discourse, not just here but in the world at large. Lefties tend to be more dismissive and less tolerant than we proto-fascists.
-
Which was ridiculous. The two debaters were, gasp, actually debating! And on a topic that is at the top of the list for many Americans. God forbid the mods don't stick their nose in. Just another lifeline thrown to Walz.

I hear ya. Had the same thoughts about Vance- very bright and articulate, but still green. My choice was Doug Burgum for either VP or the big chair, DeSantis would have been OK too. But we are where we are.
-
...and that is why we are where we are. Many right wing dudes like me think that the lefties are wrong. But many left wing folks think righties are either evil or stupid, or both. It isn't going to get people on your side if you just insult them and tell them they are stupid. At least, IF that is your goal. I wouldn't say, for example, that anyone supporting Harris needs a brain transplant. I would say that they are wrong and possibly ill informed, but it would also depend on their priorities. If their important issues are abortion access and legalizind illegal immigrants, then Harris would be your candidate. Nothing I can do about that.

Young Pete is a bright guy, but for the life of me I can't think of a single thing he has done in his life to justify that level of political elevation. Other than being gay in the Democratic party. Personally, I think if they look deep in their hearts, the Democrats are kicking themselves that the didn't choose Josh Shapiro as VP nominee. But the anti-semitic wing of the party has too much power to allow it.

I have actually heard people from both parties saying much the same thing- that these two gents should be the ones fighting for the presidency. TBH, I can see some merit in the argument. I was not a 'Trumper' during the GOP primaries at all. I would have preferred other candidates over him. But.... he was selected in a democratic process, so the choice was done. And to me, he is so obviously the better choice when compared to Harris that I am stunned the election is as close as it is.
-
He and Harris both are prime examples of the Peter Principle in real time.
-
Not blaming them because Vance won in spite of their interference. Merely highlighting why Republicans are not surprisingly reluctant to appear on these kinds of debates.
-
OOh OOH can I take that one? Yes, he did.

When the debate moderators agree not to fact check, but they actually do fact check, that's bad. When they only fact check one of the candidates, that is worse. When they fact check incorrectly, come on man..... This is why I would suggest print journalists over tv talking heads as debate moderators. They don't have the ego problem that the news anchors and correspondents have. The unstoppable need to interject themselves into the scene. Plus the constant "well, we are moving on, we have a lot of ground to cover..." BS. What, is there a checklist of topics that they have been assigned? If so, they missed a few crucial ones.
-
On the issues that Americans actually care about the most- immigration and the economy and inflation, the GOP is ahead. And Vance also trounced Walz. The mods tried to save poor Tim by pivoting to unimportant stuff like January 6 and who won the last election. It really didnt work, and to most voters really doesnt matter. I was very surprised that there was no discussion of the Ukraine/Russia war, not of the threat of China.
-
Interestingly, Walz actually spoke more than Vance in the debate, according to CNN. I guess what he had to say just didn't matter that much. JD was succinct and meaningful.
-
Whether or not Trump wins, Vance has positioned himself well for 2028. His performance was stellar. He dispelled all the corporate media BS about him being unlikeable or strange. His performance was smooth but not slick, his personality really shined through. Even the liberal media are admitting that Walz got bodied.
