Are you happy with your life in Thailand?
brewsterbudgen replied to BritManToo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I'm happy with my family and my life generally, but that would apply wherever we are. Thailand's OK but as a non-Thai speaker it has its frustrations. If I could afford it, and persuade my wife, I think my son and I would be happier in the UK. But it's too late now. -
I can't speak for the US, but the UK didn't unless it was very recently. Link?

Nonsense.

There is no such law.

Yes, I left in 2005. I'm hoping that after finally getting rid of the Tories after 14 years of disastrous government, the new Labour government will, eventually, make things better. I admit it's been a slow start, but it's not even ben a year yet. Not that I plan to go back, as my family are happy here. My son is British, so I'm hoping by the time he's an adult he will be able to return to a country with full EU freedoms.

"By all accounts"??? It's complete nonsense. You can discuss Islam and why you disagree with it. What you cannot do is incite hatred against Muslims. The same applies to followers of other faiths e.g. Christians, Hindus etc. The law is even-handed in its approach towards all religious beliefs or a lack of them.

Latest and best IPTV providers for Thailand?
brewsterbudgen replied to Scouse123's topic in Audio Visual AV
I find they reply to emails within an hour. Are you using the right address? -
I'll come back one day, but only after we rejoin the EU. I agree Thailand is a safe country (apart from the roads!) and fortunately the nationalism and a sycophantic paternalism and right-wing nutters like the previous PM, have little impact on my life.

I was in the same position, but back in 2016. It was all straightforward (my wife had a non-O from London) but it needed a lot of documentation from my employer; pretty much all the same information/documents needed for my Extension. We did it at Chaengwattana, and have extended again every year since then, plus my non-Thai son. Our UK marriage certificate had to be legalised in the UK, then stamped by the Thai Embassy in London. We got this done while we were in the UK.

Well, I am tempted by the Lib Dems or Greens, but until there is proportional representation, it's a wasted vote. Maybe a new leader for Labour will help, but even if Starmer hangs on, I'd vote for him over the Tories or (God forbid) Farage.

Will my son be fined?
brewsterbudgen replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Absolutely. It will be his decision. The alternative is to move to the UK, emigrate to another country that makes this possible/easy, or remain on Extensions of Stay here in Thailand. -
Will my son be fined?
brewsterbudgen replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
According to Thai Citizenship Facebook group, there is a path to Thai citizenship for someone born here (to foreign parents) and who has been entirely educated here to university level (see below). No idea how easy it is and my son is only 10 now. But it is something I will look into for the future - assuming he decides he wants to remain in Thailand and be Thai! To to answer your question: anyone born on Thai soil who graduates from Thai university can apply to have their status changed to Thai. The video picks up the topic at the 56-minute mark https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EFgDyj18e/? -
As a Labour voter, I'm hugely disappointed by Starmer's leadership and the government in general...so far. Particularly his pandering to Reform which will prove very counter-productive. I can't see him resigning though, and it's fanciful to think there will be another election before 2029. A lot can happen, and will.

Will my son be fined?
brewsterbudgen replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks. Yes, I've been looking into it and I'm hoping it will be possible in the future. He's attended a Thai/English programme school since he was 6 and, although his first language is still English, he is completely fluent in Thai (speaking, reading and writing). He's only 10 now, but I've been told it might be possible once he gets to university age. -

Report Bangkok Police Raid Detains 15 Women in Prostitution Crackdown
brewsterbudgen replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Local prostitution, if conducted "non-promiscuously" (i.e. discreetly) is regulated under various pieces of legislation, so operates within the law. This article is about arresting prostitutes for openly and "promiscuously", soliciting their services, which is illegal for both Thais and foreigners. -
Will my son be fined?
brewsterbudgen replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I have been told (on another Forum) that 90-day reports are treated differently to overstaying and kids can be fined. Hence, my query here as I thought it unlikely, as do most of those who have commented. I'll find out in a month or so! -

Why not just increase the standing fare and the mileage rate, so that taxi drivers can earn more money? Bangkok taxis are ridiculously cheap. Why not just increase the standing fare and the mileage rate, so that taxi drivers can earn more money?
