  1. This just happens to be a covid thread but if you want to follow the daily published reports on road deaths I suggest looking where they are published here, yesterday there were 27 which happens to be the same amount as the covid deaths on the 16th Feb. I agree both road deaths, pollution and diabetes inflict huge daily tolls that are preventable however the government here does not publish those figures daily so its impossible to have a separate thread on it daily, unless you start one and source the numbers from somewhere? I note just nearly every country in the world still publishes daily covid figures although those that are coming out of restrictions have mentioned this will change as they come to terms with the endemic status they are giving it. Thailand will follow suit I'm sure but with all the covid restrictions it still has in place then I wouldn't hold your breath just yet.
  2. The Oxford study from the link in the article. Mmmm We estimated an extra two (95% confidence interval (CI) 0, 3), one (95% CI 0, 2) and six (95% CI 2, myocarditis events per 1 million people vaccinated with ChAdOx1, BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273, respectively, in the 28 days following a first dose and an extra ten (95% CI 7, 11) myocarditis events per 1 million vaccinated in the 28 days after a second dose of mRNA-1273. This compares with an extra 40 (95% CI 38, 41) myocarditis events per 1 million patients in the 28 days following a SARS-CoV-2 positive test.
  3. Myocarditis: COVID-19 is a much bigger risk to the heart than vaccination Myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination is rare and the risk is much smaller than the risks of cardiac injury linked to COVID-19 itself. Based on a study out of Israel, the risk of post-vaccine myocarditis is 2.13 cases per 100,000 vaccinated, which is within the range usually seen in the general population. This study is consistent with others in the United States and Israel which put the overall incidence of post-vaccine myocarditis between 0.3 and five cases per 100,000 people. https://theconversation.com/myocarditis-covid-19-is-a-much-bigger-risk-to-the-heart-than-vaccination-174580
  4. PCR test positive cases, total of 17,349 official new infections. 22 official covid deaths recorded. Rapid tests positive cases, 11,969 bringing the total of PCR and ATK results to 29,318 https://ddc.moph.go.th/covid19-dashboard/ Rolling 7 day average chart from 15th Feb https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand
  5. Looks like being unvaccinated could also have an impact on life insurance: Life insurance companies have the freedom to charge different premiums based on risk factors that predict mortality. Purchasing a life insurance policy often entails a health status check or medical exam, and asking for vaccination status is not banned.
  6. Thats fine, that lovely stewardess is vaxxed, is not sitting next to me eating with no mask on and her regular negative tests would not be fake ones, which was my whole point, ie fake pcr negative tests, which you obviously missed. So I've really got no need to move to Alaska, I've done my bit for myself, my family and society by taking the vaccinations. Besides I've lived in Phuket for the last 16/17 years, my daughter goes to school here and she's very happy to be back after it opened again with all teachers vaxxed, parents vaxxed and most of the students who were eligible also vaxxed. Its a pity the anti vaxxers have so few arguments left that they resort to claiming everyone else is living in fear, when in fact everyone else has done their bit for themselves and society. Some with hesitation and genuine concern and some more than willingly. But all have contributed to helping to end the pandemic while the anti vaxxers sit by doing nothing and the hospitals in some countries clogged up with them suffering from severe disease and dying as a result of their decision. Thankfully because of the high vaccination rates countries are now beginning to open up, without vaccinations I wonder where the world would be now.
  7. Quite ironic when you see resources being used in hospitals due to the anti vaxxers ending up with severe disease because they claimed that the vaccines were untested long term and now taking the latest treatments from the same companies that made the vaccines. Dr. Steven Fedder, who works in the emergency room of a hospital in Richmond, B.C., said he has run out of patience for people whose stance against vaccines has larger societal implications. "I think it's the ultimate selfishness that individuals choose not to vaccinate themselves. And I think they don't realize they are too arrogant to understand that we live in a society where we all have to make sacrifices," he said. https://www.nationalobserver.com/2021/09/03/news/doctors-frustrated-selfishness-unvaccinated-people-protesters
  8. Good for you but perhaps somebody with heart or lung disease, cancer or even a pregnant lady (under 36 weeks) who wants to fly somewhere does care.
  9. Yes it needs to be said, there are lots of fake PCR tests circulating in certain countries. As for the rest of your post, nothing to do with what I said but amusing
  10. The 62% is for community infection only. The arrivals is far less than that around 3%
  11. Not sure what you find so funny, I my post stated I would prefer not to sit next to a passenger who is unvaccinated and with a fake PCR test, what is amusing about that?
  12. If you have the budget and its a busy flight then best to book first or business class seats for added protection as Omicron changed the dynamics, last thing I would want is sitting next to an unvaccinated passenger from a country that is known for fake pcr tests. Airplane Passengers At Least Twice As Likely To Catch Covid-19 Because Of Omicron, Airline Trade Body Says The omicron variant of the coronavirus raises the risk of infection on board a passenger plane by two or even three-fold, according to the airline industry’s biggest trade body, a finding that may foreshadow an exponential increase in cases as millions of travelers take to the skies to be with their families during the holiday season. https://www.forbes.com/sites/siladityaray/2021/12/22/airplane-passengers-at-least-twice-as-likely-to-catch-covid-19-because-of-omicron-airline-trade-body-says/?sh=519125c5536b
  13. 980 primary schools in Nakhon Ratchasima suspend on-site classes due to COVID-19 A total of 980 primary schools, or 70% of all the schools in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, have suspended on-site classes in favour of online learning after clusters of COVID-19 infections were detected in several districts in the province. In the latest development, the provincial health office reported clusters of infections in four schools on Monday, in the districts of Muang, Chakkarat, Bua Yai, and Phra Thong Kham. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/980-primary-schools-in-nakhon-ratchasima-suspend-on-site-classes-due-to-covid-19/?
  14. Long COVID symptoms after Omicron: WHO on worrying signs "speaking on chances of suffering from long COVID after Omicron, the UN health agency noted that the possibility is high (as compared to other variants), still more study is needed on that." https://www.livemint.com/science/health/whos-warning-on-long-covid-symptoms-heart-diseases-and-other-worrying-signs-to-watch-out-for-11644579525137.html
  15. Yes however that positivity rate of 62% is for community cases only. As a comparison the test positivity rate of arrivals is averaging about 3% https://www.facebook.com/phuketinfocenter/photos/pcb.484174243237757/484174199904428
  16. PCR test positive cases, total of 16,462 official new infections. 27 official covid deaths recorded. Rapid tests positive cases, 11,816 bringing the total of PCR and ATK results to 28,278 https://ddc.moph.go.th/covid19-dashboard/ Rolling 7 day average chart from 14th Feb https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand
  17. Lots of good information in the new weekly WHO Thailand update. Phuket has Thailand's highest positivity rate at 62%. There are 8 Provinces with a positivity rate of between 35% - 62%. https://cdn.who.int/media/docs/default-source/searo/thailand/2022_02_15_tha-sitrep-223-covid-19_eng.pdf?sfvrsn=a74a1411_3 https://www.who.int/thailand/emergencies/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports
  18. Community positivity rate in Phuket is over 60%, thats extreme and yes a large proportion will be getting infected here as a result and then testing positive on the 5th day.
  19. You could always read this.......... Unvaccinated People Are Increasing the Chances for More Coronavirus Variants — Here’s How One of the key characteristics of the coronavirus is the spike protein that allows it to latch onto a host cell, penetrate it, and cause an infection. That spike is what vaccines target to block the virus. In the unvaccinated, however, the virus gets in, hijacks the cell, and turns it into a factory. It then makes thousands of copies of itself. If there’s a copying mistake or error, scientists call that a mutation. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/unvaccinated-people-are-increasing-the-chances-for-more-coronavirus-variants-heres-how
  20. Not quite, check their entry requirements if you come from an at risk country. Going back to normal will probably never be the same again, Public Health will always be working in the background to monitor the situation, vulnerable people will probably need booster jabs yearly unless a new vaccine is developed. Vulnerable people will need to take care of themselves knowing that covid is endemic. However due to the vaccinations its great that the daily restrictions have been lifted, soon the UK to.
  21. I never said mutations don't occur in vaccinated people though did because they can and do, hundreds of them as well as in unvaccinated people, I was specifically referring to those mutations that have become variants of concern along with Omicron. Would you like anything else cleared up?
  22. I suggest you do some research on that, I am talking about the Variants of concern that have arisen. 1.Alpha (Sept 2020) occurred before vaccinations although now taken off the list of variants of concern due no longer circulating. First detected in the UK, Kent to be precise. 2. Beta (Sept 2020) occurred before vaccinations, first detected in South Africa 3. Gamma (Dec 2020) occurred before vaccinations, first detected in Brazil 4. Delta (Dec 2020) occurred before vaccinations, first detected in India 5. Omicron (Nov 2021) first detected in SA where vaccination levels were very low just 42 doses had been administered per 100 people
  23. Ok if you must compare, then the covid situation is suffering also with vaccine equity and if it had been distributed on a fairer basis and copyright patents not forced then the vaccination status throughout the world would have been far higher and the pandemic would be coming to an end faster and with less likelihood of further mutations. The mutations so far have arisen either before vaccinations were available or in countries where covid vaccination was low. Now lets get back to the subject which is covid and vaccinations/unvaccinated shall we?
