I agree with you that someone is exercising his personal expression and I am a big fan of freedom of expression! But he does have some serious problems. The person in question has lumped all foreigners into the same boat, which is extremely xenophobic and potentially racist.

Your totally missing the point, on purpose. Thai is only spoken in Thailand, whereas English is the most widely spoken language in the world. Meaning if you want to work or travel out of Thailand, it would benefit you to speak English!

In general the MSM do not report a balanced news, it is biased one way or the other, they only report the news they want to you to hear, it could called propaganda. Now of course some folks know that and choose not to read or react to it. Some people of course actually believe the BBC or CNN or MSNBC just to pick out a few, but obviously there are more. Do the MSM tell outright lies, yes sometimes, then they get sued, but mostly they spin it to fit their own narrative.

Yes you are correct no one should or have to carry their original passport with them, in fact the only time would be going or coming from the airport, or a visit to immigration. If anyone has lost their passport they will know its a very time consuming/messy and expensive business to get a new one.

Why do the Thai authorities continue to do this? As may posters have said this is plainly xenophobic or even racist, because it is implying Thais are better at obeying the law, when we all know they are not! They want more tourists to come into the country then pull ridiculous stunts like this, what a joke! Why not just say People instead of Foreigners?

I have some friends who went to Phuket for a few days. They tell me its very very busy, all bars are in fact open selling alcohol also restaurants. lots of foreigners, just like normal. Why are places like Pattaya still closed as far as bats etc are concerned?
