  1. You are right. However Trumps tariff calculation is not looking at the absolute import tariff, its looking at the trade imbalance. Here is an example of Trump calculated the rates for each country. In this example, it's for China. This formula is used as a basis for setting tariff rates on specific countries. Using the Formula: Case Study of China To use the formula in context, let's take the U.S.-China bilateral trade relationship in 2024: U.S. exports to China: $143.5 billion U.S. imports from China: $438.9 billion Using the formula: (143.5 - 438.9) / 438.9 = -0.673 (or -67.3%) This result corresponds to a 67% tariff increase on Chinese imports, as indicated by the tariff percentage on a chart carried by Trump at the time of the announcement.
  2. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to update Toyota navigation system maps for a 2020 Hilux Revo? Since day 1, the maps didn't include changes in roadways in the last 3 years, around Pattaya and Bangkok. So now the maps are about 10 years old. I am aware of google maps but they don't work well with internet and even with internet, they show weird routes sometimes. I purchased a Garmin drivesmart 65 since there was a seller on Shoppe who claimed they had a Thailand map that worked in it. It worked sometimes but around Korat, Burriram etc. it certainly did not route correctly, always wanted me to go to Korat and then to my destination. Does anyone manually update their Toyota maps?
  3. Maybe Trump's end objective is eliminate tariffs with all trading partners - Thailand should remove all tariffs for US goods and services and US will remove all tariffs for Thai goods and services.
  4. Thailand charges 72% on imports from USA and now USA charges 36% on imports from Thailand. Taking into consideration services provided by USA to Thailand, this new tariff sounds reasonable as a starting point. If Thailand goes to "negotiate" maybe USA will boost the tariff all the way to 72%, exactly what Thailand charges. USA wants and will get reciprocal trade tariffs. USA is also watching currency manipulation so that trick won't work. Even if Thai companies try wiggling and setting up shop in nearby countries, some get even higher tariffs: Vietnam gets 46%, Cambodia 49%, Laos 48%. Malaysia is only 24%, Indonesia 32%.
  5. BBC news reports 117 people are still missing at the high rise construction site. 5 people are confirmed dead.
  6. I've started preparing my own meals at home. Restaurant meals seem to have very small protein portions. I love a nice thick juicy Australian grass fed strip loin steak, some mushroom and onion garnish, some vegetable and eggs for breakfast. Brings back memories eating at Denny's restaurant, steak and eggs for breakfast. Even started making my own pizzas since some of the shops in Pattaya have switched to processed mozzarella cheese and the cheese layer is too thin. Just can't find quality in restaurants for a decent price.
  7. In Pattaya, try Oldies coffee roaster, also known as Jitphirom coffee. They roast beans on the premises and have a large variety of coffee beans. They supply many hotels in town. It's on google maps, search for "Jitphirom Coffee Roastery (Oldies)".
  8. The other 41 out of 42 are are in prison or a labour camp or have already been executed or are somewhere else being re-educated/brain washed into Chinese communism propaganda.
  9. There have been other groups of Uyghurs that have been transferred to China from Thailand, not just this one group. What happened to them? Forced disappearance - is this something Thai police are familiar with? Of course China will put on a good show for the visiting officials or justify the predictaments of the Uyghurs. Thais were 2 faced in the second world war. Thailand help Japan until it became evident that Japan was going to lose then they hooked-up with USA. Thais seem to be 2 faced now too - telling USA they are following US policy of freedom and democracy and telling China we the rich people of Thailand, are the dictators, just like in China and agree with your policy of persecuting Uyghurs. Thai politicians do anything to make themselves and their friends wealthier.
  10. Try phoning 1323 open 24/7. Not sure if they have english counselors. See: https://findahelpline.com/countries/th In Thailand, you can call the Samaritans English language service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on (02) 713–6791. But THIS IS A CALLBACK SERVICE. You get a call back from them within 24 hours.
  11. Low gas will cause the evaporator to freeze.
  12. They only sell Panasonic online not in the stores. The online store will not accept foreigner credit cards, only Thai credit cards or QR codes to bank accounts are accepted. They rejected my valid WISE Visa card for payment. I inquired why and above is the reason. Also went to 2 stores in Pattaya, and both told me they are dumping Panasonic ACs.
  13. Although the salesman told me both hot and cold coils are copper, this new LG does not have a copper compressor coil. Looks like I might need 2 new coils in shortly after the 3 year warranty runs out.
  14. I wanted buy Panasonic but they are difficult to source here in Pattaya. Homepro and powerbuy are selling them online only but the websites will not accept foreign credit cards and COD is not available. They do accept QR codes with Thai banks but I don't have online banking. Homepro stores no longer sell Panasonic air conditioners although some stores still have a marketing/advertising sign. Multiple places say they do not sell them because if there is a problem with the unit, the parts may have to come from Japan and that usually takes 2 weeks. Panasonic doesn't have a factory in Thailand.
  15. I did look at TCL but the SEER rating was zero stars. The only reason I bought an inverter was to get more efficient cooling, or cooling that is less costly than a non-inverter.
  16. I don't know if the installation is deficient. They are returning tomorrow to finish the install, basically to bolt the compressor to a steel tray. They didn't have sharp enough drill bit to drill into the steel tray. I did watch them intently during the 9 hour install. They did braze the pipes, only used flare joints at the evaporator and at the compressor, insured the bends weren't flattening, insulated each pipe, pipes were encased in a plastic casing. They didn't flow nitrogen through lines during brazing, which is normal professional practice in USA, Canada. On a new unit, the gas is compressed in the compressor unit. No gas is added unless it is large distance between the compressor and evaporator. Different units have different specs but generally I estimate distances greater than 10 meters may require more gas. For my install the pipes were 6.1 meters in length.
  17. One of my old Hitachi 18K BTU inverter air conditioners (about 9 years old) started blowing warm air. It was used everyday for a minimum of 12 hours. Did lots of research on the internet and it seems in the past, most people most success with Mitsubishi and Daikin. However these two manufacturers offer the lowest warranty in Thailand, 5 years on the compressor and 1 year on everything else. I did notice that Daikin offers 10 year warranties in India on their compressors. I wonder why they don't offer 10 year compressor warranties in Thailand? I settled on a new LG SCQ18A.S11 18K BTU replacement for 35,000 baht with installation, removal of old unit, and 2000 salvage credit on the old unit. The list price was around 43K baht. It has the new dualcool compressor warrantied for 10 years which is supposed to cool quickly, 3 years warranty on everything else. It has lots of features like connecting to your phone, and a 3 star efficiency rating. All the features are at the LG website but there isn't a English language manual, only Thai language for this model. I think I made a big mistake buying this LG. After running for 5 minutes, set at 16C, it was blowing 77F air, after 15 minutes 65F, after 30 minutes 55F. Very slow cooling in my opinion, yet one of the marketing points was that it has very fast initial cooling due to the new dualcool compressor. I decided to compare it to the old existing Hitachi (18K BTU) inverter that was still working, In 5 minutes the Hitachi was blowing 50F air, at 10 min. 44F air. This was a fair comparison since the room sizes are exactly the same and both indoor and outdoor starting temperatures were exactly the same. I also have a very old Mitsubishi 18K non-inverter which runs everyday for about 5 hours and it has the fastest initial cooling even faster than the Hitachi. Does anyone know of a great fast cooling inverter air conditioner with a long warranty and good reputation? Maybe I should go back to non-inverters?
  18. Need to do the sweep with non-local police. Form a team of about 150, choose 10 from 15 different provinces but not Bangkok or surrounding provinces. Keep date, time and location for the raid secret until it starts.
  19. Why do you think an exit stamp is irrelevant? I think it is relevant because it proves departure from the country on a certain date through the proper immigration process, an illegal border crossing point wasn’t used. The stamp would be hard evidence, with the entry stamp, proving the amount of time in Thailand, which is very important for the new income tax qualification rule of being in Thailand 180 days or more in a calendar year. I use a re-entry permit.
  20. 500 buses arriving in August 2025 and the remaining 1,020 buses by 2032? This sounds ridiculous. They should all be in operation by the end of 2025 not 7 years later.
  21. I used an automated gate to exit a few weeks and plan to return in a few days, so I do not have an exit stamp in my passport. Will I have to obtain a new TM30 at Jomtien if I am returning to my regular residence in Pattaya for which I already have a TM30?
  22. I used an automated gate at BKK to exit a few weeks and plan to return in a few days. I have a valid re-entry permit. Will there be any entry issues?
  23. There’s a quad-Deric in USA that has killed more people this flu season than covid-19. You can see a video about here:
  24. Get a copy of her ID (passport), her driver’s license and her address, her license plate, her insurance company name and policy number. There maybe 2 insurance companies, one for the government mandatory insurance and another company for things the government policy doesn’t cover things like property damage. Get both companies’ names and policy numbers, this is critical to get a satisfactory settlement. Do not sign anything written in Thai unless you understand and are fluent in Thai. Avoid believing a nonprofessional interpreter including the policeman and police interpretors and especially the insurance company agents. Before signing, get a certified interpretation into your home country language. Interpretors are certified by the ministry of foreign affairs. Next, take your MC to an official authorized Honda dealer and make sure you get all official Honda genuine new parts. Tend to your injures at the best medical facility (Bangkok pattaya hospital)and keep all the official original receipts. Get wounds redressed and cleaned according to the doctor. The government insurance issuing company will pay all the medical bills, without question. Ask for a reasonable sum for pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment, loss of wages, rental costs while your MC is being repaired and any other losses. Include your damaged clothing as property damage in addition to the bike. Thai insurance companies are famous for giving low ball offers. There are ways to get what you want without involving a lawyer. The Thai insurance bureau that licenses insurance companies can help get a reasonable settlement, and also the small claims court can help, but you will need a trusted Thai language helper.
  25. Senior citizens like to walk but Thailand is one of the most pedestrian unfriendly countries in the world. Less than 10% of the streets have decent sidewalks, that are level, unobstructed and wide enough for 2 people to walk side-by-side. Additionally, traffic laws are only enforced when there is an accident, and most pedestrian crossing lights don’t work and when they do work, rarely do motor vehicles stop for people crossing. Pattaya is a perfect example pedestrian unfriendly infrastructure and support.
