  1. the thing is peope are only looking at one ist - yet they never question why.
  2. It was a semi-rhetorical question...
  3. Germany is weening off coal too....as ever, you seem very poorly informed. Nuclear is a highly cintravesial alternative due to waste dudposal and the huge cost.
  4. There is money and the economics obviously make sense to become less dependant on Russia.
  5. Not in the Pattaya region. The haze in Pattaya was pretty evident in March this year and that may well have been due to smoke from crop burning and forest fires in the central and northern region. The now notorious seasonal haze in Thailand extended as far South as Pattaya and Prachuap on the other side of the Gulf this year. This is a combination of crop burning and later, forest fires. Chonburi and surrounding provinces are relatively unforested themselves. There is a certain amount of crop burning. Forest fires are largely man made . The problem for the provinces I mentioned is mainly industrial pollution that comes from the huge industrial estates surrounding Pattaya and the coast. This is a year round problem that again depends on the weather and other factors for intensity. The pollution is more that just particulates....it affects air, water soil and sea. The disposal of waste is a major concern Locals have been protesting against poorly regulated industrial pollution for decades. At one point 65 factories at Map Ta Put were closed down for several years due to shortfalls on emissions regulations. There have been several explosion disasters and oil slicks too.
  6. I think you are again short of evidence - just look at the Chinese solr panel industry and countries like OZ. The UK has wind power at sea but currently a moratorium on land-based wind farms.
  7. Not minimal, just not enough... Germany's power production from renewable energy rose in 2022, but it is still below the threshold needed to reach the target of generating 80% of electricity from renewables by 2030, the Environment Agency said on Monday. Renewable energy is expected to account for around 46% of German power consumption this year, up from 41% a year earlier, the agency said in its annual report. - Reuters https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/germanys-2022-renewable-power-production-rises-still-behind-2030-target-2022-12-11/
  8. the Russia Ukraine war should be a golden opportunity for the development of wind and solar.
  9. Pollution in Pattaya is primarily from the industrial estates in Chonburi, Rayong and Chachoengsao. And its gonna get a lot worse!
  10. Most people care about the country they love in....I wonder what your neighbours make of you.
  11. Dan Auto are good and reliable. They rebuilt an aircon system for me, so I guess they will top up too. however they would also recommend someone if they can't do it. they are here.... https://goo.gl/maps/yj4GwAmMnu9japdG8 Is there a B-Quik on Samui?
  12. at least you recognise your limitations. I've driven both sides of the road and both sides of the vehicle for most of my life. But why only one day??? The great thing about having the car is being able to get about a bit and see another country.. i've covered most of Laos in a vehicle.... it's certainly no worse than driving in Thailand, the traffic in general is much lighter.
  13. Not sure if you understand my post. I don't think telling Thai people they are bad drivers helped one little bit. however an intelligent conversation about road safety might. I see little sign that many people on this thread understand even the basics of road safety and I don't see any sign that you are offering comfort to the bereaved.
  14. All these stories do is elicit the same old cliched comments and suggestions about Thai driving from the ASEAN NOW community. As there has been no change for nearly 3 decades we have to assume that these comments are for the most part wrong.
  15. you don't seem to have a grasp on the issues - just tying to dichotomise the subject. The truth is that Hydrogen is a longer term solution for transport but transport is only one factor in many to do with MMCC. How about capitalism, industry agricyulture and meat war etc., etc,
  16. Nice to get the racist perspective on things.
  17. There would still be natural climate change and global warming even if humans were not on the planet. The Earth's climate has always gone through cycles of warming and cooling, which are caused by various factors such as volcanic activity, changes in solar radiation, and the natural release of greenhouse gases. HOWEVER, .... it's important to note that the current rate and extent of global warming and climate change is largely attributed to human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, which have led to a significant increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This is why scientists refer to the current period of global warming as "anthropogenic" or human-caused. While it is true that the Earth has gone through periods of climate change in the past, the rate of change and its impact on ecosystems and human societies is unprecedented in human history. Therefore, it is important for us to take responsibility for our actions and work towards reducing our carbon footprint and mitigating the effects of climate change.
  18. Purple book for the car cost about 100/200 baht from DVLC. You need the usual docs...proof of residence etc . In Chonburi it takes about an hour from handing in the docs...go for some noodles. Renewing was about 50 baht. Insurance can be bought on the Loa customs exit and costs about 500 baht for up to 30 days.. You might find your Thsi company will extend your cover to Laos for a week or two. Life is so much easier if you drive in....fora start you don't have to worry about getting to and from the Consulate. If you take a couple of days the surrounding countryside is beautiful. You pay a little man something when you get off the bridge at the Laos end. The only drawback is the Laos authorities only let you stay 30 days at a time.
  19. There used to be a humidor in one of the plazas off second road / beach road- don't know if they survived Covid. Check Google maps for "Cigarista"
  20. Last Time I was there - pre Covid renewing a B visa, I spent a lot of time driving in and out of Savannakhet so people could get online and download a copy of their bank balance..
  21. It takes (or rathe took) about 30 minutes to get from Big C, Mukdahan to Savannakhet and the same the other way. It's usually a lot faster than taking the shuttle as you don't always have to queue for you passport to be stamped, they will do drivers with the car.
  22. did you notice if they were checking Tourist visa applicants for 20k in the bank?
