  1. It doesn't. People want to follow Western culture. It doesn't need to be forced on anyone. In fact, in many cases, non-Western governments have to fight their own people in order to prevent them from embracing and living a Western cultural lifestyle.
  2. Who's talking about American culture? Maybe re-read the thread. They're universal, but they are still largely based on Western culture. You can't just say, "Oh, they might have come from Western culture, but everyone has them now, so they aren't Western culture anymore". What you're basically picking up on, is the fact that Western culture is so dominant, that people don't even realise it's Western culture. It still is, though.
  3. WWII involved a lot of White countries. Also, American culture isn't as dominant as Western culture.
  4. I think he forgets that we're not actually talking about the physical toughness of a culture. One culture doesn't beat up another culture to become dominant.
  5. I think one of the problems you get when talking about "White/Western culture", is that it is so dominant that people don't even notice it. It's basically just become "normal". So people wear Western clothes, use Western inventions, speak Western words, eat Western food, live in Western houses, but they think this is just "normal". Then say that there is no Western culture.
  6. Didn't you notice that most Thai people walk around wearing hanboks and eating kimchi while using Korean slang and loan words???
  7. Exactly. That isn't what you are talking about. Dominant as in it is favoured and followed more than any other single culture is. E.g. "Dominant opinion" means the opinion that most people have, not an opinion that can beat up other opinions... I'm not sure why you're trying to conflate something being physically strong. You're not really making any sense. 🤷‍♂️
  8. How could a rule-following culture be stronger than a non-rule-following one? You don't actually seem to be talking about what everyone else is talking about. You appear to be talking about the physical toughness of a culture. This doesn't really make sense and isn't the topic here. Good for the strength of a culture though.
  9. Well, that isn't really an example of "White culture". There are rude, pissed up old Thai men as well. You sound like you don't fully understand how dominant Western culture is. The Thais you see who don't want to be like drunken expats do actually copy their clothes, their education system, their architecture, and a lot of them would like to have their democracy.
  10. That isn't what is being discussed. We're talking about the strength of a culture. That doesn't require any force, now.
  11. Should the globally dominant culture, who people from others cultures admire and wish to emulate, be considered a "strong" culture? This seems like an odd question to ask.
  12. How on Earth would that be a sign of weak culture? Rules are there to protect people and breaking them tends to put people in danger.
  13. As I said. Foreigners tend to not experience how bad things can really get for an individual in Thailand.
  14. I would say that one issue is that we don't really get to see most of the downsides in Thailand, due to the fact that we are in a pretty good position. One of the key differences between East and West is the rights of the individual. In the West, the rights of the individual are put first, even where it is "bad" for the group. In the East, the rights of the group are out first, even where it is bad for the individual. We're fortunate enough to not know how bad things can be in Thailand, as we are generally in the group living a reasonable life. We aren't particularly vulnerable.
  15. There are pros and cons to both cultures. One is more strict, the other more relaxed. Both have their good sides and their bad sides.
  16. The Americas were originally empty. The Native Americans were the first wave if immigrants, as were most "native" populations. Everyone started out in Africa.
  17. Thais and Thailand definitely have areas where they are better than other cultures, but to say they are more civilised or trustworthy is ridiculous. Say what you want about Western countries, but they're clearly more honest (less likely to lie or scam, lower corruption, more likely to follow the rules/law) and more civilised (less racist, better educated, more empathic). Thailand and Thai people are better than the West in many ways, but we shouldn't forget that there are many ways that rhe West is superior, also.
  18. So, White culture isn’t weak at all, but it's merely an accident of geography? That appears to be what you are saying, yet it doesn't really agree with what you said previously.
  19. I've encountered a lot more Thai Supremacy than White Supremacy. Are you as annoyed with the Thais that have this attitude as you are with the foreigners?
  20. He's just a troll. His comments rarely make any actual sense.
  21. Who is saying this???
  22. Then how has it become the dominant culture around the world? That doesn't sound like something a weak culture could achieve.
  23. If I was being very generous, it's a way of pointing out that non-White people might have trouble doing these things and we therefore shouldn't judge them as a result (a little patronising and illogical). This angle is to help White people understand non-White people. If I was being more realistic, it's a way of saying that things that White people might be proud of, or positive things people could say about "White culture", are bad because they are different and linked to "Whiteness" and non-White people don't have to feel bad for not having these things. This angle is to attack White people.
  24. A lot of it seems to be accurate. Certainly in terms of attitude, if not always reality. Kind of weird that it seems to be being presented as a negative thing.
