  1. Of course. It's one drunken idiot and a crowd of mostly Thais encouraging him. Noting is done to deescalate or defuse, and he doesn't actually get violent with anyone, but eventually one security guard, who shouldn't get violent with anyone, punches him. As soon as he is down, loads of Thais (who he has not harmed and he is no threat to) rush in to attack him while he is vulnerable. They even attack his friend who had only been trying to calm the guy down. If they had not been stopped, they might have killed him, and there was likely a racial element to their anger and desire to harm him. I'm not sure how you can not think this makes Thais and Thailand look bad.
  2. It makes Thailand and Thai people look bad. Not just the street that it happened on. People won't even remember exactly where it took place.
  3. So, how do you think your personal experience is relevant when talking about Thailand or Thai people as a whole? You seem to be disagreeing with what is being discussed, but your example does not support any kind of disagreement, since you personally not experiencing something does not mean it doesn't happen. You don't need to be sad, just word your answer in a way that makes the point you are making clearer. And think about what the original post was that you are replying to. I was talking about people perceiving Thai people being violent as not being an issue, but foreign people being violent something very bad, not whether or not Thai people are ever violent, so your personal experiences don't really apply. E.g. "Thai people may be drunk, violent, aggressive, etc., sometimes, but personally I have never had a problem with any Thai person. Even when they jump the queue in front of me, I tell them to get to the back of the line, and they do so." - This still doesn't really apply to what I wrote, as that was a matter of perception, but it makes it a little more relevant. I would certainly agree that Thai people are less likely to be confrontational than a Westerner.
  4. "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced... But I know it when I see it ..."

  6. So you've never seen a video online or read a news story where a Thai was aggressive and confrontational?
  7. She sounds shallow and judgemental. Also she's rude. She doesn't sound like a pleasant person. You can have all the standards you want, but how you behave shows the kind of values and personality that you have.
  8. "Anyone who criticises me is trolling, then I don't have to take those criticisms seriously." 🙃
  9. And you sound like a crazy person who is embarrassed by their mistake and is now trying to troll.
  10. I don't believe you. Why would you need to see me defusing a potentially violent situation in order to believe that it can be done? Anyone can do it. You're reaching now because you've failed so badly.
  11. You were wrong about what happened where the American killed the guy for lifting up a Thai girl by her neck, and I was right. I linked the article where it happened. What is wrong with you?
  12. Thank goodness. It's a win for most sensible people. Only a small minority will see this as bad. Common sense and scientific fact won the day!
  13. Then you are assumed to be trolling, if you are unable to explain why I am wrong. 🤷‍♂️
  14. They need a proper police force that patrols visibly at night in the drinking areas. That's what we have in the UK (which is apparently similar to Pattaya, as guys love to go out, get absolutely sh*t-faced and then start a big fight). If you imagine four Thai police officers turned up before this guy was attacked, he likely would have calmed right down. (Also, it might have got the mob to disperse and the security thugs to go back inside.) But yeah, optics. Like with most issues in Thailand, you can't fix something without first admitting that there is something that needs fixing. 🤷‍♂️
  15. What message? If you annoy Thai people they will gang up on you then beat the crap out of you? Yeah, in case you didn't realise, people who have no intention of getting pissed up and being annoying, still don't want to go somewhere where the people batter people who do. This threat might make you feel good, but it's really not great for tourism.
  16. For what, hurting the security thug's boot with his head???
  17. Did you ever meat someone who liked to fight who said, "I generally choose people who are clearly going to batter me to have a good fight with"?
  18. Well said. It's the Amsterdam/Las Vegas/Cancun effect. I wasn't trying to suggest that cannabis makes people more aggressive, but I am saying that when cannabis becomes part of the allure of coming to Thailand, it starts attracting people who have less respect for the culture, and who see Thailand merely as a party destination where anything goes. Interesting point. I hadn't considered this before. However, is Amsterdam (which also has prostitution as a big draw) have the same issues?
  19. Why is that trolling? You should always be able to explain your point (particularly when that point is "you're wrong"), or provide evidence to support your claim. If you cannot do that, then you shouldn't make the comment in the first place, as you show that you are either not genuinely knowledgeable or are unwilling to engage with someone on the topic in an adult way. Either of which will make people not take you seriously.
  20. That's what he has been focussing his entire energy on since he got in! 🤦‍♂️ Immigration: protect people and wages Tariffs: create jobs for hardworking Americans Anti-DEI: protecting people from discriminatory hiring practises To be honest, if you have a problem with Trump, you basically have a problem with folks being given a hand up.
  21. The thing is, we actually like this, or at least the environment that led to it. While this is the bad side, the positive side is that Thais get on really well with each other, support and cooperate easily, and there is sweeping societal harmony and trust as a result. If it wasn't like this, people would probably not come to Thailand anywhere near as much as they do. We enjoy the positive side, but know to tread lightly to avoid the negative.
  22. While I don't disagree, it's not the job of security to fight people in the streets, even if they're being goaded, and it's not right for everyone to storm in and try to stomp the guy.
